I agree with you about wearing slippers that have been worn by someone else. As far as I’m concerned, it’s the host’s/hostesses’ responsibility to wash/clean “house” slippers before offering them to a future guest, as well as to offer future guests assurance that they are being offered sanitized slippers. Until I accumulate multiple pairs of slippers to offer others, I just mop after anyone other than myself has walked on my floors. A question I have, though, is how often do you clean your floors? I find myself cleaning them more often even if I’ve made trips back & forth to the patio, porch, etc. Thanks for speaking in this.

To understand the relationship dynamics between the Germain People & American Citizenry-its absolutely essential to expose the hidden assumptions of facts between the two countries: 1) The US Stands strong, not always because they offer up something insightful or novel to the dialog-but, as a Global Military Superpower, we continue to carry a very big Stick; 2) Today, Financially, we dictate(directly or indirectly) World Monetary Policy, drive interest rate setting frameworks, setting global Reserve Currency edicts, controlled the Flow of Funds to every corner of the Developing World; and often directly influencing the ECB & the IMF; 3) Germany-albeit wrong in their footing & leadership extreme fanaticism in WW2-as a Nation they were thoroughly humiliated, and as people they were blamed for a severe failure of their moral judgement/compass, and suffered greatly economically in the Post WW2 Reconstruction era, monitored, measured, & directed by contingent of Allied Alliances of Nations; and being subjected to the influences of the tug of Communist and Capitalist Systems setup on their own homeland soil, separated by a prodical Iron Curtain(Wall) until 1990. So, I think you can begin to understand how an overzealous American living in Germany might be perceived as being very privileged while having a Great Uncle with a temperament for control-and both the Military & Financial armament to follow-through, if need be. No, I don't believe this is in the forefront of an average person’s mind when speaking to Americans-but, deep down below there must be a visceral recording of their parents, grand parent, and great grand parents stories of anguish at the hands of a more powerful nation from the past. People are people are people: we’re all made up of the same emotions, fears, desires, hopes, dreams, and the need for stability, safety, an opportunity to better ourselves and our children. So, given that we all need the same thing in life(more or less), with varying cultures getting at these human needs in slightly different ways, we must learn to remove these Nationally-given benefits, privileges, historic wins from the conversation zeitgeist, to make traction on building meaningful relationships of value in our lives. I am an American, second generation Northern-Italian American, 7th generation half Brit & half French. I have no recent Germanic heritage in the last millenium .
Bin zwar noch nicht in den USA gewesen. Aber ich weiß das das aroma der Früchte von ihren Nährstoffen kommt. Das aroma geht auch verloren wenn früchte länger liegen. Das mit dem wachs, ist einerseits für die Optik des produkts andererseits soll es manche insekten daran hindern in die Frucht einzudringen.
In German saunas, you can generally be completely naked everywhere, BUT a lot of them have rules to wear a bath robe at the cafe/restaurant areas, i.e. be covered there. But yeah, in that case they should have asked your bf to cover up too.
I didn’t experience this in Berlin, but this happened to me in Innsbruck and Lucerne. I would say something in German, and people would respond in English.

In India we have home slippers and guest slippers. Outside shoes are not allowed inside the house. It carries a lot of germs and dirt from roads and its unhygenic as it spreads the germs in the house. Anyone barefoot or wearing home slippers will easily catch those germs from those outside shoes. Its a hygenic thing to do.
