At 1:52, 2:00, and 2:06, can anybody name those people ascending the steps? I assume they’re actors and actresses given the voice-over of the narrator during said timeframe.
I always loved vivien leigh, interestingly it was stated that she was highly intelligent but it was extremely sad that treatment for manic depression was not available it destroyed her relationship with olivier never liked him I thought he was very arrogant but they loved each other truly I think so sad.
For reference, 5000 GBP in 1939 is equivalent to about 410,000 GBP today. Perhaps not that much by today’s standards or even by the standards of the time (?) but it might have been helpful for the gentleman to clarify that point.
Vivien Leigh was a one off I think. Her blanche in streetcar has never been portrayed any better. I saw a production in the 1970s in London. The actress playing blanche was good but Vivien Leigh made the part her own. Vivien I think was unrated as an actress in some instances Maybe because of her talented husband Olivier she was judged as not that good an actress in the classics. Critic Kenneth tynan often was critical of her acting prowess. Because he admired Olivier.
Loved his voice Olivier what an actor he was. Vivien Leigh was a good actress she had beauty and talent. I think Kenneth tynan was so obsessed with his admiration of Olivier's prowess as an actor which I can appreciate. He couldn't see that Olivier and Vivien complimented each others acting when working together on stage.
Why would anyone that having a sanity in mind think Vivien Leigh will look the same as Scarlett...a role she deliver 20 years prior? Just look at Audrey Hepburn... from 1957 to mid 1970s...she just changed drastically just like Vivien. Why ppl can accept Audrey for instance, but not Vivien? I do not see any logic here. The girl was battling a string of illness including mental issues with little to no support at all. She worked hard as she could. At least...she did find a loving man towards the end of her illustrative life.... this is enough happy ending there. She looks happy, despite all these high and lows. I am coincidentally a scorpion myself, at least...this is how I feel... given her turmoils and dedication led to a certain degree of happiness... she just embrace it!
It is a lovely documentary. Vivien is stunning ❤😍 She is definitely ahead of her time. You can see when she doing something out of period drama, in most parts you can clearly see she moved nippily, like what's been emulated later by Audrey Hepburn... perhaps, that's one of the complexity that makes her acting so realistic
Marlon and Vivien's chemistry 😍 in A Streetcar Named Desire blew me AWAY! 😱 to this DAY I'm not even SURE how Blanche kept her cool around Stanley 😆 quote on quote because her brother in law was soo HOT! 😍🔥😱🥵
Vivien Leigh was a lot like Scarlett O'Hara in real life. She always denied this. It was true. She went after what she wanted and got it. Whether this is narcissism or what. Ambition. She got what she wanted, same as Scarlett
I find the scathing narrative about her mental health being the source of all the problems in her life and not an expression of the early separation from her parents, always having to present the perfect relationship and exhausting demands of life as an actress and the pressure of being forever in the public eye very very sad.
Being dumped at Roehampton, all alone, at the age of 6 “might” have contributed to her later mental illness?? Gee....do you _think?!?!?_ I mean, Leigh had the genes for manic depression from one or both of her parents, and that horrible-and ridiculous-separation when she was 6 was certainly a traumatic event, and traumatic events in childhood are the catalysts which cause mental illness genes to “fire.” The English upper classes treated their children with such horrible callous cruelty that it’s mind boggling! I’ve read so many biographies of famous English people, and so many of them were brutally treated and completely ignored. What a mess!!
I read few times she got $25 000. Hattie was getting paid $700 per week so how come Viv would only get paid $5000 as a whole sum. Rhett got $125 000 or $175 000. Don't remember.
Well both of them had extramarital affair when Joan maried Olivier 20+years older chance she was not ofter his body. There was nothing dignified about them. Victims. His oldest son and her daughter..
