I love all things traditional and have really found enjoyment carving spoons and Kuksa's (Wooden cups). My channel has material to teach you carving with very basic hand tools. Leave comments in the video and I'll respond quickly to answer any unanswered questions! Enjoy!
Great vid! Just curious if you could do the same kind of sharpening of Mora 106 or 120 using sand paper attached to a wood board (say 1000 grit or 1500 grit or higher?)
I was worried about replacing my high-end older oasis with this one ru-vid.comUgkxCgPI5O2AtmcHq9SJhgsCGbpAzJAJfrJp but it is surprisingly light and the screen resolution is just as good. I never had the warm light on my old kindle, but i do not use it on the ipad so I will probably not need it. I think the only thing I'll miss is the self-adjusting light, but this is so worth it!
That straight edged Deepwood Ventures knife is either ground wrong, and/or likely tempered improperly for that type of grind. There's no material to support that fine of an edge angle. That is a VERY thin apex with only a slight convex to support it. That knife would need good steel with a very good heat treat cycle to refine the grain...or it would need a standard scandi/V grind. Also, those don't look like chips so much as a rolled edge, which would mean it's over tempered. From the video anyhow. If you bought it from him I'd call him and discuss it. As a maker, I'd warranty that knife and provide you something more appopriate.
@@lotsofwoods thin is good for a lot of purposes, particularly at the edge if the knife is hardened and tempered properly. My kitchen knives...the edge will flex over my thumbnail...at 65HRC, but are still tough enough to go through an apple seed without an issue. It's unfortunate you don't carve anymore! I'm just starting (as a function of making sloyd, curved/hook, and other carving knives) and I've enjoyed your channel quite a bit.
Exactly what I’m looking for! Legend! My project started as my first hand carved bowl which went really well! But I wasn’t happy with the inside, felt like I was leaving a lot of ma I couldn’t get with the adze or chisels. so I’m lathe turned on the inside and hand carved on the outside to show a nice scalloped knife finish. Keep it up!!
You change your password to all #'s, is that right. I don't get what you are saying about Wept....is that what the numbers spell? Can you link the form you found this on in the description
Very inspiring video,I’ve just bought a 1 1/2 “ gouge off eBay to try making kuksas and that twca cam …. Wow makes it look so easy I’ll have to put my name on the list to buy one but I think Nick Westermann has a 2yr waiting list 😂😂 How do you sharpen your gouge and twca cam ? Very helpful video thank you
Hellos from finland the country of origin... just read a lot of info about this because im making my own. It should be treated with used coffee grounds. That will give color and the idea is that when you hard rub the grounds on it it gives some of that coffee oil into the wood.
this is why i preffer to work with seasoned wood its harder than carving green but if you have a solid piece with no cracks there almost no chance they will develop later
*I upgraded from the 8 inch to the **Newest.Technology** 10 inch. I really didn't expect it to make that much difference but it has. It is also much faster and responsive. Great Purchase.*
Like ur tutorial! What I heard, it's when the grit gathers up on u'r whetstone that it is most effective. So never wash your stone every time after sharpening.. But ur knife seems sharp enough! Have a nice day :)
So you have a coil of copper pipe in side the barrel. A radiator inside your house. What is the temperature of the water entering the house.? It seems like a long run of pipe to get hot water to the house. Do you have a circulation pump. Just wondering if an outside unit next to the house would be better to heat inside there.
Use Antifreeze. Pump it through your tanks and radiators till all is full and add an electric water pump to pump it to the radiators. Put a Vent or release valve that will release pressure. Turn the water heaters up to max they dont use much electricity. I looked this up to see if it would work. I will use 2 or 3 water heaters in line with each other
I always say to start out with easy to carve softer wood to hone your skills pike you say, then move on to harder woods or woods have a prominent grain that will stand out.
Hi Jeff, this has been an informative video. Do you know if there is a list somewhere of woods to avoid if they are food-related? Now sumac surprised me. I didn't know they got large enough to form an actual trunk. The berries and leaves are toxic to some people. Have you used it for eating utensils, or for pot stirrers? Having access to 200 plus acres must yield some interesting trees. I wish I owned that much land. I would build a cabin with a screened-in wrap-around porch. A Away from noisy neighbors, and from the cars that zip around the streets. Just me and mother earth.
A great thing to do with spoons that are sanded ( some customers prefer the look), is to work from 150-220-400 grit. Then to make is glass smooth, I use 3000 grit rubbed fast to burnish it. You'll feel it grip when it's applied with pressure. Makes it look polished and shiny.
I microwave dried a canoe spoon for too long by accident and only caught it when I smelled smoke. It scorched the bowl. Upside is, it polished perfectly and gave the spoon the most unique coloring! It's used daily, and has no burnt flavor at all, and is smooth a glass. Best spoon accident to date for me.
