At the time of this comment, this video is now 9 years old. Do VFD's produced now in 2024 still pull current in the same "gulp" way? Do the new ECM (electrically commutated motors) and LED's we are retrofitting everywhere cause the same harmonics?
That was a very accessible and easily understood and absorbed explanation, which takes real skill for what could potentially be a complex and difficult to understand topic - thank you
in an application with constantly start stop of three phase motor what is the better way so motor doesnt hot to coonect the inverter with triangle or star
So if I'm understanding this correctly, there is no neutral in the circuit, so the two power leads come from the double pole breaker, red into one pole and the black into the other pole? So I'd be pulling three wires, a ground, and two power leads and no neutral?
Hello, I also have an SP81 miniaturung, it has a 0.37 kw / 380 motor and I want to put a converter on it to go to 220v. Could I put a converter of 1kw or more on it?
Hi can you please help i have a cross cut saw and need to put in a two way switch so that i can have it running continuously or on the hand button stop&start also i need to put in an emergency stop
R= L1 S= L2 T= L3 N= Negative for DC Bus P= Positive for DC Bus P= ? U= T1 V= T2 W= T3 Would someone please explain to me what the second P stands for because Craig didn’t go over it. I would greatly appreciate it.
Well this is 5 months late and you know the answer by now.. but for the record this is typically the 'P+' connection where a DC Link Choke would go. So the choke itself is what would bridge the P and P+ terminals in order to close the loop to the DC bus. If the choke is not present, a jumper needs to be there in order for the DC bus to charge.
Hi Craig . . . I would like to add a big red safety STOP mag switch with the VFD I am installing on a bandsaw (1.5hp / 220V 3P) to run off 220/1P. I can place it between the source and VFD or between the VFD and motor. Any recommendation on which method is best? Thanks, Dennis
AN FR-A700 INVERTER HAS DEVELOPED A PROBLEM OF ONLY RUNNING IN ONE DIRECTION(FORWARD) BUT PREVIOUSLY IT WAS RUNNING IN BOTH DIRECTIONS AND I HAVE CHECKED THAT THERE IS NO SIGNAL FROM THE INVERTER(AT RUN TERMINAL) GOING TO THE PLC .WHAT CAN BE THE PROBLEM.QUICK RESPONSE WILL BE HIGHLY APPRECIATED
Never heard of 24 pulse drives but in a new building we had 18 pulse drives on all motors 40 HP & !arger except for a soft start in 250 HP fire pump Talked to drive techs from two different drive companies and neither liked any drives above plain Jane 6 pulse drives. Always had trouble with biggest boy on the block ABB tech support. Had to perform PM on over 100 ABB drives and contractor threw away all the books. Took me two weeks and maybe 5 emails for clowns at ABB to finally explain how to Bring up DC Buss voltage that we had to enter on our drive PM'S. Found Danfoss & Allen Bradley best for tech support.
Maybe 6 months before I retired they installed two 1,750 HP chillers that 18' long cabinet was feed by 13,200 volts then to a transformer supplying 4,160 volts to the VFD. Never had training ing or saw them run. I asked where the NEC required arc flash labels were and they said thier engineering department were working in that.When I talked to one of my old coworkers a year later they still were working on labels. I would never approve of final payment for any lazy foot dragging company that did not supply required !abeling.
