One of my favourite videos is both of you together and this one popped up today and I thought I would watch it. It always makes me smile and laugh. Such a lovely couple. We all miss you Holly❤😊
I'm useing type S bagged mortar mix, the first batch was aweful and did not mix very well at all and wouldn't stick to the blocks. After this video I realize my mix consistancy was wrong and it was much too dry. Thank you for the video, I now have more confidence to finish the project!
This was really helpful. I've got the bottom half of a chimney breast to rebuild soon and i have very little exposure to laying bricks. I'll keep watching. any tips? thanks again.
Thanks - such a great video. I’ve been building a block work outbuilding having never done it before, and have just added a 900 mm round opening which will have a window inside. Watched your video 10 times to figure out how to make the circle - never laid a brick in my life! Just been out to check it this morning and it’s all in one piece - thanks for the clear and mercifully brief instructions. Keep up,the good work.
Have been laying brick for 48 years. I’m semi-retired now. I do repair jobs and mail boxes etc. i started out using a 13” Rose. We laid mostly block on commercial buildings. After a few years I developed tendinitis in my elbow and my doctor told me to use a smaller trowel. I’ve used an 11 1/2” Marshalltown London narrow since then. I like the rubber handle also. Thanks for the great video.
Look out the window no different today than in my childhood late sixties early seventies. Some years warmer some years dryer, some years cooler some years wetter. Nothing exta ordinary. Maldives oredicted to be under water by mid 70's, thats 1970's, that was the predictiin in late 1950's. All rubbish, there are extremes and always have been. Not to mention The Milankovitch cycles, far more powerful than anything man can produce over vast periods of time thousands of years
This still video affects me. I sometimes times wake in up in the morning thinking about what you went through, the same feeling I had when you posted the update, it imprinted on me. I didn’t have the courage or perhaps it felt crass and false to chime in with everyone else when this life changing devastation arrived. For me I can’t imagine how awful it was nothing can compare. Id just like to say you always never far for my thoughts, hollow as that sounds it’s true. Love to see new videos one day mate, make my day it would. All the best.
My father was laying bricks before / after the war - materials were very scarce, things were very bad, soot was used to supplement cement, very weak mixes used etc, and I'm guessing some of the techniques etc you are querying were born out of the necessity and the shortages of those hard times.
I enjoy ur videos a lot i just start watching the hole playlist from the scratch. I wonder if u will answer that later but i wanna know when we use cement and when we use lime ? Sry if the question look stupid im total bigginer 😅
So this isn’t a mix you would use for actual construction is it? I though hydrated lime was only just used as a plasticiser as opposed to hydraulic lime which is used in construction?
