Welcome to 'Tales of Fey and Folk' by artists and folklorists Kelly Potts Martinez & Marc Potts. Here we are going to share with you some of the folklore we have grown to love, the folklore of the Faerie Folk most especially, as that is area of art we work in, but also the Folklore of some of the trees, plants, animals birds & insects... all things have a story & those stories need to be shared. With this channel we will bring you not just fascinating folklore, but also beautiful art images by ourselves & also from history. About us Kelly is a sculptor of all things faerietale & fantasy, a teacher of arts & crafts, a former costume designer & maker for indie faerietale films & theatre productions... & collector of homeless animals, pixies & goblins. Marc is an artist & illustrator whose work has been featured in many international exhibitions, books, magazines, as products designs & as covers for music albums.... he has also been known to write the odd book now and then.
I completely agree with the introduction. People interacted with the fey and other creatures on a regular basis in the old days. In my homeland of Hercegovina the existence of Elves was as assured as the sun and moon. However I feel that our obsession with dominating and twisting the land, and distraction from healthy and normal things with the nonsense that the modern life brings, ruined this connection.
I put branches of a hawthorn under my sons crib to protect him from a strange demon like creature (I assume a vampire) that has haunted the men from my fathers side for at least 3 generations. In the Balkans the hawthorn keeps evil spoříte away
Lovely, l have had a very close connection to nature from early childhood spending most of my time in the woods with the spirits of the forest as people did in bygone days. This video just takes me right back there. Just beautiful, thank you.
I feel deeply connected to these tales. My mother’s maiden name means “apple orchard” and my last name means “oak”. Both of these trees were highly respected and used by Druids.
This is your first video I am watching. I love it. Thank you!!! I only wish that names and places were written down so I could know how to spell them as I read and research more :-) ❤❤ Thank you for all of this! (Hello from Pennsylvania, USA)
Thank you for this video, I had been looking for this info ! I am a guardian of an oak tree groove and communicate with them and lead others in ceremonies to connect and heal with oaks, I will now have more info and techniques to share
In my youth we lived on the edge of a large forest in the province of South Limburg in the south of the Netherlands. In my opinion it was a big forest because I was still a small man. Every time the adults started acting strangely towards each other, I fled into the big forest with my drawing supplies under my arm. I then drew a lot of trees. Now fifty years later I still draw plants, trees, but also those strange people. I thought it was a wonderful video about oak trees. Thank you and I have subscribed to your channel.
Such a well researched and narrated video, the 14 minutes passed in the blink of an eye...just as if I was taken by the fae for a while! Don't mess with the raths or ancient monuments, treat them with respect please
Our family has always had a strong connection to oaks, it's even on our family crest. Every property anyone has owned has oaks, some we planted and some that have been there for centuries. I remember my sister and I climbing them all of our childhood, we believed there were fairies living in one that had a hoke in it, so we never climbed that one 😂.
I lost an opportunity when my squirrel condo dropped an old branch! Big it was, but I wish I'd trimmed and decorated it. Mea Culpa; I had a pile of challenges happen all at once. Next time!
Hello! I just wanted to let you know, I just found your channel as I start to study trees and the folk stories around them. You are probably one of the easiest to understand and most polished presenters on this topic I've run into in a long time. I'm thoroughly enjoying this. Thank you so much!
It helps ladies when they’re having their period and having cramps, the bark is called cramp bark. I like it because of food source, and it lives for a very long time.😊
Thanks for an enjoyable listen & thank you so very much for pronouncing Scots & Gaelic names properly. It shows respect, so when other YT channels can't be F'd , I lose my respect for them. BTW The Isle of Islay is a hard one, there's a wiki page with both the English pronunciation & the Gaelic recorded, so you can hear it. The 's' is silent in both cases, in English it's pronounced like the girls' name, Isla (as in Isla St Clair, Isla Fisher, Isla Blair, Isla Phillips etc) & in Gaelic it sounds more like 'EE-luh'. Best wishes & thanks again.
Idk this for certain but I wouldn’t be surprised if the southeastern states of FL , GA , AL , and SC aren’t home to the highest concentration of oak trees in the world . They’re everywhere here , giant ancient ones .
I thoroughly enjoyed this video and have subscribed. Thank you so much for a lovely, charming and peaceful brief encounter. I will look forward to more ❤
