What do you think of a KLR650? Good Adventure bike that isn't too bad on highways if you ever need it?

You have some good videos man. I have watched two so far and will watch more soon. I also subscribed tonight as well. Can I ask, what helmet mic do you use & how do you set it up in your helmet and to the go pro? Also, do you add in some of your narration in post ride, back at home when you’re editing the video? Thanks.
@DerekDualSport
@DerekDualSport 10 дней назад
Thank you very much! I use the DJI mic system. It comes with two microphones, I put one in my helmet and one in the rear fender bag. The helmet mic I clip directly onto the Django helmet mount and it puts the mic right in front of my mouth. If you have a go pro you’ll need to buy the go pro “media mod” to use the microphones. I do use a mixture of audio from the ride and a voice over that I record while editing.
@redeemedadventures
@redeemedadventures 9 дней назад
@@DerekDualSport Thanks for answering that. That’s a a big help. I have 3 quick follow up questions … #1. The attachment on the outside (lower right side) of the helmet, does that have anything to do with this set up? #2. The second mic you put in the rear fender bag, is that turned on to record sound, or it’s there as a spare? #3. How long do the batteries last for the DJI mic set?
@DerekDualSport
@DerekDualSport 9 дней назад
The attachment on the lower right side of the helmet is for communication with riding buddies who have the same communication system. All my audio and pov video is run from the chin mount, Both microphones are recording at the same time. I like this set up so when I have nothing to say I can just pick up a lot of engine/exhaust sound from the second mic. The DJI mics last literally all day which I love. I set them up at the beginning of my ride and they will stay on until I get home. I’ve gone 8-10hrs. The go pro battery drains far more often then the mic battery.
@redeemedadventures
@redeemedadventures 9 дней назад
@@DerekDualSport Cool. So, one Mic is plugged directly into the gopro media mod, how do you get the audio from the second mic onto the video? What editing software do you use to edit your videos once your back home?
@DerekDualSport
@DerekDualSport 9 дней назад
@redeemedadventures so the DJI mic package comes with a receiver and two wireless mics. The receiver plugs into the media mod, and the go pro records the audio from both wireless mics from the receiver. I use Final Cut Pro X to edit video, but If you don’t have a Mac I’d use Premiere Pro to edit.

I know what ya mean about the rocky trails messing you up. I grew up riding East coast trails and in my 40s, went to Hatfield and mcory trails. Hit some rock gardens! At the time I had a xr400r. I learned real quick that all I had to do was let the bike do what it wanted to do and just gas it when in bought. I also learned that doing that kind of riding on a lighter 2 stroke was way more easy on my body. I'm slower now and probably would stay away from the rock gardens but still riding at 55! KLX300 and a KDX200
@DerekDualSport

Good advice. If you can afford a 360 camera get one. They will record riders in front as well as behind you. They can even record yourself falling. Mount it on the side of your helmet and not the top so that it doesn't get slammed by tree limbs. Y'all have fun.

Momentum is key and confidence because the bike will make it over as long as you can keep your balance with throttle control and clutch learning to balance and ride. Slow is beneficial.

I agree that you will have a blast on either one. I like that the KLX is a bit more modern with fuel injection etc. The Drz’s have not changed a thing in a long time so there is a lot more aftermarket parts available for the DRZ. I tell ya I’ve taken the KLX 300 all over the place it’ll definitely get you down those places less traveled.

I just ran the WYBDR on the KLX 300 with the MT21/D606s. These tires were perfect. I don’t reduce PSI off-road… I just run the stock recommended pressures. Worked perfect for those 1000 miles. They are fine on the road, but if you ride a lot on the road there are better options. For off road (gravel, dirt, mud, sand) these are great.

i’m comfortable with the Tusk up front and rear i took my KLX to rock run in PA i forgot how ridiculous Rocky it was it had rain so it was kind of muddy too, but the test was the tires ran about 11 pounds of pressure. I had no problem, but I think the next tire will get in front. Will be the Perelli in a tusk in the rear thanks for your review

KLX300, I also run MT21/D606 combo. If you know for sure what type of terrain and surface you are riding it is possible to select the best tires for that situation. When things change up a lot this combo is trusted to do "well" in more variable situations. It also does well on road and doesn't just melt in short mileage. It's a good place to start for most riders. By the time you wear them out, you should have a better idea of what else you may want to try if you are trying to dial in to a certain goal. - Also, there are other factors that can affect everything. How heavy are you? What bike are you riding? What rim sizes are you running? The tread pattern can be completely different on different sized rims. IMO the TKC 80 was NOT great on a DRZ400sm (only experience I have with them), but it SEEMS they do very well on a heavier ADV like a KLR. The idea being that the added weight forces those big blocks down into the soil better. I also mounted my own MT21/D606 on the KLX with only some YT video instructions and no prior experience. They are going to last me a while, so this is where I live for now.

The good Ole Pireli MT 21 tires. Back in mid 90s, I put MT21 on front and rear on my 1983 honda XL600R. They were the best tire combo at the time. They were advertised as 90 dirt 10 road. Wonder why no one is talking about the MT21 rear?
@josephthornton8560
@josephthornton8560 19 дней назад
The school of thought is- for DS, each tire has it's OWN job. Front is to steer without having any forward drive. The MT21 front does that better than the D606. The rear wheel drives and paddles the bike, keeping it moving forward. The D606 rear does THAT better than the MT21. Another way to think of it is- the MT21 is the front tire Dunlop SHOULD have made. Or you could say the D606 is the rear tire Perelli SHOULD have made. They both missed the mark a little. This combo tunes in to that goal slightly better than either matching set did.

Great off road amd smooth and stable on road. Even at 120k plus. The only thing it doesnt do well is deep dry sand. I have a plan to remedy that for next year.
