You are great! I took the carb off my wood splitter last year and followed your instructions on how to take it apart & clean it. I just replaced the carb, and cranked it up & split wood tonight. The first time around, I saw some of the gaskets weren't going to last long, but it made it through one winter and I learned a lot. It was just as cheap to get a new carb as it was to figure out which gaskets needed replaced.

Thanks for the demo. Once I saw from your video where the bold to remove the bowl cover was, I removed the bowl cover and let the gas out - I suspected water or something was preventing it from starting. Low and behold, a big fluff of something made its way to the carb. I guess that can happen as there is no filter. Started fine once the crud was removed. Thanks for the video Lawnmower Lady

Great video, Stella! This is the first time I’ve seen a carb removed from this style engine (horizontal shaft) so I’ve definitely learned some things to pay attention to. Since I’d never heard of metric all thread before I did some research to find out all about it. I’m usually inclined to modify tools or make my own, so I thought about your use of those temporary studs and decided it’s time for me to acquire an M6 die and plain rod to make my own studs. I’d cut them maybe an inch longer than necessary, thread the bottom end for an inch and taper that end on the bench grinder (chucked into my drill) to make it easier to push the stud through all those obstacles without damaging anything. I’d thread the top end just far enough to screw on a hex nut far enough to jam it on with threadlocker so it won’t come off and then grind off the face smooth. Either that or two nuts jamming together and grind the inner one to match the outer one. This way I’d have a set of studs which are easy to thread in and out quickly by hand or with a drill instead of a screwdriver. Just my take on a solution for studs as useful tools. Hope you like it! 😁👍🔧🧰

Just a friendly tip for you and your viewers. When you are talking bolts, drain plugs, ect... always use the box end of the wrench! Take any slop or play out of your wrench and give it a good impact with the palm of your hand to break loose! If you just put a bunch of pressure aginst a bolt without impacting it to break it loose, you can twist the fastner right into and snap the end off inside the hole! That's when the fun starts my friend! Not fun to remove, that's for sure! And one more thing, if you open the throttle plate wide open you will see the emulsification tube coming out right in the center of the carburetor. Put a standard screwdriver inside the throttle bore and push down on the top of the tube and it will come out of its bore much easier! Your best to put a off/on piece on your garden hose and connect it to the pressure washer, that way you can start to engine without fighting the pressure of the water and then as soon as the engine starts you can slowly open the valve and introduce the water to the pump and whenever the engine is running never let off the trigger! That's what destroys the seal in the pump! I just wrap a piece of duct tape around the trigger. 😉

There's an AMZN link to the M6 threaded rod I purchased to make these studs on this post ru-vid.comUgkxC_6jvO9O0MTWVuH7qFqG4bC3dLtbRgZ_ I think the clear tube you might be referring to is for a soap injector. The other end should be attached near the outlet nozzle, and it just sits in a container of soap (or what ever you want) to add to the output. Thanks for watching.

@@TheLawnmowerLady If you look at your video, you will see a clear short tube, maybe 6-7" long under the carburetor. I guess it is there for some reason & I didn't see any port to attach it to so I left it alone & it works fine. I had it sit for 10 yrs or longer & the carburetor was dry & not dirty at all. There was also some gas in the tank that I drained out, the gas looks clear & still smells normal. But I cleaned the carburetor anyway & it started. I'm also a woman & start watching RU-vid to learn how to do things myself & save money. ☺☺☺ Keep up the good work & thank you for answering my question which some posters do not answer.
@TheLawnmowerLady
@TheLawnmowerLady Год назад
@@patmiller2415 Ahhh. I understand what you are asking about. That's just a tube that is attached to the drain screw, to divert fuel into a container rather than have it flowing all over the engine. Open that small screw a few turns. I did that at the end of the video to check if the fuel pump was working. The fuel you drained was definitely no good. Regular fuel you pump into your auto (enhanced with ethanol will degrade badly in about 30 days. If you can get ethanol free, it has about a 6 month shelf life. Thanks for watching.

what sulution did you have in the jar with the carburetor?
@TheLawnmowerLady
@TheLawnmowerLady 2 года назад
I use about 4:1 water:Pine-Sol. I find enough solvent properties in the Pine-Sol to take care of mildly varnished fuel deposits without discoloring the carburetor bodies. It does a good job on the brass bits as well.

I got a new pressure washer not 6 months ago . Long story short I've used it maybe 10 times . Ran it out of fuel the other day and after putting new fuel back in it , it will not run ,. Pulled the filter and it had oil on the top plate /airbox. Dropped the bowl and had fuel and everything is clean , Could it be the fuel pump ? I can drip fuel in to the carb and it will run . Just not picking up the fuel . Any idea's ? Thank you .

@TheLawnmowerLady 8 месяцев назад
Double check the impulse line is attached to the fuel pump. It runs off the vacuum generated when the engine turns over. You should be able to pull the engine over (spark plug out to make it easy to pull) and eventually see fuel pumping through the carb.

i bought a used pressure washer, went to clean the carb and main jet and i don't have that "atomizer" part at 8:04... i checked thoroughly, the main jet was also completely clogged up, couldn't see through it. Machine only ran with choke on, does that make sense to you? Maybe somebody serviced the carb and forgot to reinsert it perhaps? What should i do?
@TheLawnmowerLady
@TheLawnmowerLady 4 месяца назад
There are some older carbs (not for Honda) that indeed do not have a removable atomizer. I honestly don't see how it cold run, even poorly without an atomizer. Looking directly through the throat of the carb, you should see about 3mm of a brass tube sticking up. Not sure if I showed that in this video. It does come out, but often it's "glued" in with old gasoline that has dried into a varnish. The carb can be soaked in carb cleaner, or run through and ultrasonic cleaner. Even after soaking, you might need to use a flat bladed screwdriver to gently press down on the tube to get it moving. I went back and looked, I show that atomizer through the carb throat at 17:50 Thanks for watching.

There's nothing there, unless it fell out at some point after i removed the main jet, but that's not something u would just miss is it? The machine was running well, but only with the choke on, it would die if i put it on run.... that's before i took the carb off to clean, now when i put it back on it won't run at all. Does it sound like that maybe fell out and i lost it? @@TheLawnmowerLady
@TheLawnmowerLady
@TheLawnmowerLady 4 месяца назад
@@Pingaheimer I would venture to guess the prior owner "lost" the atomizer/emulsion tube, it never ran right, then sold it off. If your main jet was gagged up, I doubt it just fell out on you. You can buy another one. If this is a Craftsman, or other brand with a Honda engine, you will the engine model # not the washer model # to get to the correct parts diagram. Hope this helps.

@@TheLawnmowerLady thanks I bought the carb kit in Amazon for 20 bucks need the new spark plug and air filter included anyways, just gonna grab that part from there. A new aftermarket Carb on Amazon costs under $20 and includes an air filter and spark plug. In spite of the great instructions you provided, it makes no sense to clean an old Carb on a GC190, as the chemicals to clean them probably cost more than the $20
@TheLawnmowerLady
@TheLawnmowerLady Год назад
That's a fair point. I've got very little invested in my ultrasonic cleaner set-up. I've not purchased an aftermarket carb on AMZN before. I've seen reports of them being sort of hit or miss on the quality. Carb spray and brake cleaner cans do add up for sure.
@skepticalobserver7484
@skepticalobserver7484 Год назад
Cheap Chinese carbs off Amazon are a crap shoot. The ultrasonic setup to clean out the original is nice, but on most engines a can of carb cleaner will do the trick. Better off sticking with OEM carb when possible. You know what you got.

@@TheLawnmowerLady If you can solve this riddle for me, I’ll be eternally grateful. I have a Speeco log splitter with a GC190. I let it sit for 2 years. I changed the oil drained the gasoline, put in brand new $23/gal fuel. It started on the 5th pull like normal, I opened the choke and ran for 20 seconds after that and then stopped. If I try to start it right away it doesn’t start, if I wait 20 seconds it starts and then runs for 20 seconds again. I can do that 10 times in a row. Since then, I have, cleaned the carb, no real muck, I’ve swapped coils, I’ve disconnected on/off switch, I’ve swapped carbs. It still does the same thing. Help

@@karldavidson9767Hard to tell, with throwing so many parts at the machine. Too many variables. It could be something as simple a new spark plug (you didn't indicate you replaced that) or a timing issue, which has nothing to do with the parts you have replaced so far (some aftermarket parts are not always a good replacement). If I was working on this, I would go back to the original parts: make sure the idle circuit is completely clear on the carb. If it runs while squirting fuel into the throat of the carb while running, it's still not clear. Put in a new NGK spark plug. Check the condition of the magnets on the flywheel and check the keyway. Have you adjusted the valves?

@@karldavidson9767 Spark plugs fail, plain and simple. I will say spark plugs are more often to blame on a 2-stroker, but they can and do still fail on a 4T. Why? IDK. cracked ceramic? broken electrode? Spark plugs can test fine in open air, but can fail under compression and heat. I'm not knowledgeable enough to say why. They are cheap as chips to replace. Don't beat yourself up if that's the case.
