I have been tripping in Algonquin for 45 years. I’m not sure people realize how epic your journey was. Truly amazing feet. I congratulate you both on your endurance and perseverance. Thanks for sharing. Cheers 🍺

Thanks for the kind words. It was a heck of a trip and you are right not too many people would choose to do 43km of portages in a week long trip.

You guys should eat more garlic just to keep the bugs away. Avon skin so soft works well as too. All the boys working on the railroad track like the skin so soft best I think it reminds them of home . Nice video fellas. Thanks. 🇨🇦👍

Music is awesome in this video, I've never ever liked music played over a nature video, it covers up the natural sounds.. This is a first! 👍

Looks like a great trip but damn that looks like torture to me with those bugs. Would not want to drop trou in the woods with all those mosquitos around. My favourite time of year for Algonquin is the fall. Cooler weather and no bugs plus awesome colours.

Wonderful video Martin! Came across your channel (now subscribed to) via the ‘Ontario Backcountry Camping’ Facebook Group. I used to frequent Algonquin in the past, first as a teen and then with my wife and children, and have unforgettable memories of those times. We’re now at a point in our lives where we’re close to returning. This route will definitely be saved. I was tracking you via Google Maps throughout the video, wishing I had my Algonquin Park canoe map in front of me! The timing of the video was great, appreciate you labelling the lakes and rivers as you progressed, and the list at the end was perfect. An additional kudos for your use of Moby’s song ‘God Moving Over the Face of the Waters’ during the last 5 minutes. All the best.

Very nice! Some really terrific footage, and obviously a great route. Did Kiosk to Opeongo once via the same path but never below 60.

Very interested in this rope contraption you've used while portaging "hands free" it looks like!! Can you tell me about this?? Also, great route, top to bottom literally, very impressive!! Followed you on my map to see your path from lake to lake, can't wait to get back up there!!
@Martin_G
@Martin_G 4 года назад
Thanks! The rope does help on portages so you don't have to keep your hands up holding the gunnels. It's nothing special. Just the bow painter looped around the stern carry handle then attached to itself with a taught line hitch. Tight enough that it rests around elbow height.

Finally got a chance to watch this uninterrupted start to finish - loved every second. The back and forth between you and Scott not only made for a fun vid, but I'm sure made the entire trip a blast - through the highs and lows. The site on Little Hay looked half decent but I think my favorite shot is (what I assume to be) you guy running gut rapids. Neat little section of river like no other in APP. Awesome video man! Great route too!
@Martin_G

Thanks Peek! I'd go back to Little Hay. Yes that is Gut Rapids. Pretty unique spot. When I saw it I knew I had to go in there. Scott was freaking out! BTW don't do it. Not dangerous, just turns into a pain in the ass boulder garden you have to line.

Great vid! Subscribed. What can you tell me about that beautiful beavertail paddle... looks perfect!
@Martin_G
@Martin_G 4 года назад
The solid cherry wood paddle is a nashwaak paddle branded for a local canoe outfitter. Unfortunately, they haven't been made in many years. It's sort of a cross between a beavertail and an ottertail and it has a nice flex. Good discussion here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0MqtRtMvtaY.html

Martin G ugh, that’s exactly as I suspected! Thanks for the info and the link... I had seen that vid a while back and have been looking for plans or dimensions for that paddle for some time. I have some cherry and walnut and I want to make something special. It looks like the ideal tripping paddle... oh well, the search goes on. Thanks again!

Always wanted to do this. Great video! Doing the lower part in the summer from Rock to Benoir. How bad would low water conditions be from Cauliflower L to Billings?
@Martin_G
@Martin_G 4 года назад
We went through in early June in a high water year. I think it could be pretty bad with low water. Some pretty small water down there. Worse than water levels was the portage conditions between Little Hay and Little Branch. They were pretty hard to follow. We did a lot of Bushwhacking. Not many people go through there. The ports south of Little Branch are fine. Old roads mostly.
