Personally I do feel related, I also had a Cardiac Event 5 years ago due to old sugar habits but I been biking recreational mostly with some hard training sessions, but basically I was send into this dogma circle of statins and not education on physiology and understand how my body works, long story short I was or I am very sensitive to Statins, since day One I was being affected by its sides effects but Cardiologist never mentioned this to me, well this went on for 4 years suffering from all this symptoms and frustration but LDL was whiting the NORMAL RANGE, this was the goal according to my Family Doctor and Cardiologist, but I was not feeling right and continue on my biking activities like 8 hours a week, November last year I decided to quit this Statins therapy and went Keto 100% for about 3 months, well long to be hold my Blood work changed dramatically LDL did go up but my HDL went up, Triglycerides went down and all the Statins effects were gone, ever since I been experimenting on this OFM, Keto and even Ketones drinks, My HR resting has gone down, recovery time in the bike has been going down ( Recover faster and easy) my blood work keeps improving my glucose levels A1C went from 5.7 (prediabetic level thanks to Statins) to solid 5, eating habits have benn changed to Low Carbs and Medium Fat and concentrate on Protein (1 g per KG at least), anyways my cardiologist was changed due to my request since he was insisting into keep me on this Statins but lower dose, I said no way, 5 years ago they did find some obstruction on my arteries but they were like 30% and 40%, I am not saying I am completely cured because a bad diet can not be undone in months but I am very intrigue by this OFM therapy and I have been experimenting with Vespa in longer rides under a lot of Sun light and is been fantastic, I am taking some sugar carbs via Haribo gummy (About 20 gummys for a 4 hour ride) and this combined with vespa just keeps me going, now I do not push too hard but there is always this feeling after I get home that I could have pushed harder and maybe, maybe my body would respond to that demand, and after the ride I will take some Ketone shot and I will hit my Protein meal and feel amazing, thank you for this educational information and hopefully one day we can finally understand how to fuel properly to achieve better longevity and performance.

Since Im not a native english speaker I might have missed something but in what way should fueling now be changed? should you consume less carbs during exercise since you burn fat anyways or how is “adding yourself to the equation“ to interpret?
@paleopete1

Your body is capable of supplying most of the calories you require for performance level physical activities. Unfortunately, our modern world has taken our physiology far afield from the one Nature bestowed upon us. By focusing on external calories this has shifted our metabolism to burning these calories.....the 'unintended consequence' of this is we burn far less fat than we are capable of. Vespa and OFM have shown Humans are capable of burning a lot more fat than the modern science suggests is possible.....a LOT more.....enough to shift the paradigm.....like I said in the video this is your native physiology that you already have and own so there is nothing to sell.

I got the KetoneAid KE1 few weeks ago before 2 triathlon races in one weekend. I took one half bottle on Thursday afternoon, second half on Friday afternoon. Second bottle on Saturday Morning before a sprint triathlon race. I won my age group and finished 10 minutes ahead the second guy. My PR. Then I consumed 1/2 of the third bottle on Saturday evening and the second half on Sunday morning, before the Half Ironman race. During the race I took the fourth bottle during the bike ride and fifth bottle during the half marathon. I felt more tired after the Saturday's sprint triathlon, but I still had my personal best time. No other food consumed during the reces. I do triathlons last 6 years, I am fat adapted.

Nice work Thomas! There is probably a lot more you can do . . . . sounds like you are a hyper-responder to fat adaptation. The thing is that some small dosing of ketones or even carbs won't kill a properly fat adapted athlete's ability to produce hepatic ketones or glucose to fulfill the metabolic demands of racing a sprint Tri. Subbed because I enjoyed the first part talking with Jesse, but then had to unsubscribe when I realized your nutrition knowledge is really not science based. “Evolution got it right” is called the naturalistic fallacy, and it amazes me how many supposedly smart people fall for it.
@paleopete1
@paleopete1 4 месяца назад
Sean, I have a BS in Biology from UC Davis. Much of my coursework was the same as the Pre-Med/Vet students and I got hammered. I also took Paleontology classes. Everything we do here has a scientific basis in fact not fallacy. Biological sciences should seek first to understand how nature and the process of evolution worked in the development of Humans rather than circumvent it. I read a lot of papers and textbooks but I also think about how these apply in the real world, including the world that shaped us. Much of today's published science on Human Nutrition and Health is based upon some flawed modern assumptions. In doing so we are not getting a clear read on what our true health and performance potential really is. Rather we are doing nutritional short cuts for performance and pharmaceutical interventions to 'treat' not cure disease. By looking at evolutionary biology of Humans (and other species of Life for that matter) we can gain powerful insights into how we truly evolved to be and, working from this, get athletes, like Jesse, to reach their potential. You may not agree with my approach but there is little doubt in the minds of the people we work with this approach works!

With Glucose, like Global Thermonuclear War, the best bet is not to play that game. The world has transitioned to eating outrageously huge amounts of carbs to the extent that no body can deal with them , long term. While it is possible to overdo fatty meats, there is such a wide margin of error, that it is much less likely. Conversely, there is virtually no wiggle room with carbs. I burned 500 calories on the treadmill. This should have been enough to clear out my whole circulatory system of glucose many times over, but my glucose was still high. There is just no winning this game. On low carb \ carnivore, it's a piece of cake -- or not.

Hi Rick , I think we can help you with this or at least understand it better. while working out elevated glucose in and of itself may not be a bad thing. It is chronic consumption that shifts metabolism and hormonal balance. A lot of variables to consider.

@@paleopete1 Thank you. This story is history. I no longer have issues with blood sugar. I cut out the carbs almost completely. Even though my A1c is locked in at the low 5s, doctor refuses to remove T2D diagnosis, claiming that once I go back to eating carbs, my blood sugar will come back. I beat it without the help of any medications. I remember what made me sick and what made me well. I'm not going back. I might not ever be a top-notch athlete, but I feel great now. At my age, that's good enough.

52:35 I want to understand this better. You're suggesting that increasing fat oxidative capacity, in this case specifically increased ability to utilize oxygen, will lead to to increased anaerobic performance by having more oxygen available. But glycolysis itself does not require oxygen, so is this more about optimizing the pathway to shuttle pyruvate into the Krebs Cycle? Or is it more about, by means of fat oxidative training, providing a substrate into which the lactate product of glycolysis can find a home for fresh energy in slow-twitch muscle fibers? I understand that the transporter for BHB is the same transporter for lactate, so training to utilize ketone bodies as fuel also facilitates uptake of lactate during anaerobic efforts. Does OFM help facilitate pyruvate dehydrogenase during glycolysis by providing an abundance of oxygen otherwise unavailable in purely high-carb athletes? Meaning, because OFM athletes are so adept at mobilizing oxygen, when it comes to anaerobic efforts, there is thus sufficient oxygen to avoid a bottleneck at PDH to convert pyruvate to acetyl-CoA for the Krebs cycle. In other words, lactate from glycolysis is being shuttled into welcoming slow-twitch fibers, pyruvate is being converted to acetyl-CoA for the Krebs cycle at a highly increased rate due to greater presence of O2... which means more energy overall, but I feel like the reuptake of lactate is a big factor which OFM trains. Also the utilization of ketone bodies as fuel, producing fewer ROS, thus faster recovery. Anyway... rambling now.
@paleopete1
@paleopete1 5 месяцев назад
Yes, on your main question of threshold and anaerobic performance.....but indirectly.....I say 'pushes' into anaerobic zone metabolism because they cannot be sustained, yet the body is able to do this for short periods.....another aspect is that by increasing aerobic capacity via OFM you push the the aerobic threshold higher to minimize anaerobic work. Also with regard to threshold aerobic efforts where carbohydrates are playing a key role OFM has laid the foundation for the ability to harness the quick energy in large amounts because of oxygen availability due to all the development of beta-oxidation at high intensity levels since twice the oxygen is required per energy output on fat......the best example of this is competitive swimming.....the actual competitions are glycolytic but to get to the level of competing swimmers spend literally hours in a high level yet sustainable fat burning state to develop that aerobic capacity but when unleashed with glucose gives the athlete the ability to perform. The main differences OFM offer over conventional high carbohydrate based physiology is the dramatic reduction in endothelial inflammation which allows for significantly greater dilation of the cardiovasculature allowing great capacity to move blood, including Oxygen in and CO2 out as well as fuel substrates and thermoregulation, that is the most direct but other indirect benefits are the lower lactate load, less damage to the mitochondria and cell wall lipids and fat metabolism drives cellular and mitochondrial regeneration and adaptation....the oversimplified take home is Fat should be our principal metabolic pathway for aerobic metabolism while glucose/glycolysis is our 'fight or flight' and 'bridge' fuel.....on a separate but important note....with OFM we are NOT KETO.....we have found it is important to use concentrated carbohydrates strategically for adaptation as well as performance and to maintain upregulated the PDH pathway so you can access glucose quickly and efficiently when needed. ....yeah, there is a lot to consider and a lot of it is indirect....

@@paleopete1 Thanks for your extensive reply. You've clarified some things for me. I went strict keto in 2019 when I was doing a lot of ultra distance road cycling. 12 hours of carb intake was insufferable and my lipid panel was not good despite eating 'clean.' After getting fat adapted I was doing 100+ mile rides fasted with VO2 and threshold intervals. It was quite remarkable and I've remained more or less fat adapted since. In planning for training this year, targeting 4-10 min VO2 efforts, I was grappling with the issue of carbs, since in cycling they are all the rage and for a VO2 effort, necessary. I was planning to do the aerobic season largely ketogenic, but the carb issue kept plaguing me - how is strictly ketogenic training going to facilitate the glycolytic pathway? It wasn't adding up. That's about when I discovered Jeff and OFM. Aha! This makes sense, ties it all together. First required breaking down some keto tenets - moderate protein, sub 50g carbs - that were strongly ingrained. It should have been clearer to me when back in 2020, after 6 months of fat adaptation, I reintroduced some carbs and produced my best bike performance numbers, specializing in 4-5 min efforts. I've already adopted OFM for this season and have been trying to understand the ins and outs of it. This is a gold mine of information!
@richardmiddleton7770
@richardmiddleton7770 Месяц назад
@xaosects you have to be careful that your body hasn't simply become better at gluconeugenesis from breaking down muscle tissue, it will do this at higher intensities when fat oxidation can't keep up. It's fine if you never need anaerobic efforts at really high power but you need muscle mass for much more than just that, especially as you age.

When I experience episodes of higher blood sugar (mostly because of mental or physical stress), I add some Life hacks (intermittent fasting 4pm to next midday, box breathing, cold shower in the morning, meditation for stress release, more regular activity also during the day, walks are most effective to get BS down).
