i'll never buy random bricks/boxes ever... if they just had boxes with guaranteed singles with no duplicates, i would buy boxes/cases all the time... this is my biggest complaint about WizKids
I bought this one recently, can confirm that the texture and paint job are both great. Word of warning though, I did have to replace a broken dorsel spine on the left most head (not in box, so must have happened in the factory). Fixed it by gluing some green stuff on there that i'd molded in to the correct shape and then painted it turqoise.
So, WizKids cheaps out. Makes a faux neoprene style mat with obvious negatives (ends curl and wrinkles throughout) but wants to charge as much as its quality competitors. Typical.
Great video! Thanks for showing the individual pieces and the assembly process. I really appreciated seeing the comparison to the old tower and of the expansion kits.
The wide red one in the middle is the Red Ruin and Red Dragonel set sold separately. The black one on the right is the Young Black Dragon & Rider from the Dragonlance super booster box sets you get randomly out of 1 of 3 pairs.
It is not designed to be removed from the base. There are 3 main contact points - the 2 feet and the post that connects with its chest, in which it is glued to. With a little prying, and perhaps some luck, you might be able to break the bond of the glue and remove it from the base and post without damaging them. There are some big round pegs on the base that the bottoms of the feet insert into, however there is a lot of glue that has been used so I suspect trying to pry it loose might be quite difficult.
I saw that mini of Shemeshka at 1:50. Do you know when the Planescape Character set with her is being released? I've preordered it but my playes just entered the spire and I'm concerned I won't get it in time. It was originally scheduled for Q1 but March came and went.
Prepainted miniatures should really be cheaper than unpainted ones. They are painted to the standard of a 3-year old in a sweatshop, which is probably exactly what happened.
Thanks. I try to keep the videos quick yet informative, as I mostly want the viewers to form their own opinions of the minis with minimal influence from me.
Ah, but then how else would you make it painfully obvious that it's a time dragon? Frankly speaking, I'm disappointed its base isn't a giant clock face.
Technically you could remove as it is a separate object, however there is a bump/pin on the base which goes into the bottom of it, so it will likely look pretty noticeable that something is missing.
Yes, I don't see this mini spending a lot of time on the table top, however I feel that due to the combination of the nice sculpt and good painting techniques used, it does make for a nice display piece.
Nice review. I purchased the wave 1 mats, but they were not the best with the thicker rubber matting. These look more interesting, though might be a bit large for an rpg game. I wonder what is the best size 2 x 2 or 2 x 3 or 3 x 3 for gaming with. Be great if like other companies these were double sided to offer great value for money.
I didn't have a lot of interest with the older ones because of the storage issue, and how rigid the mats were. These were some nice improvements and I hope they revisit their older mats and upgrade them to "Version 2" -- especially the Ocean mat.
