Its a "Rick" enbacker, NOT RIGEN. RICK, RICK. You can cut with the history crap just move along many people in the 50's 60's played 12 string but the model died until George Harrison Beatle 6 album, the Byrds again model didn't pickup steam. Then John Denver came and made it sing. JD was more than a musical artist he's done more for climate control awareness, he visited China had discussions with their president, Korea, Japan, even Russia it was his presence that helped bring peace to the world. Work with environment issues opening up the ocean studies are well respected as he was a world entertainer and conservationist. Give the guy the credit he deserves.
It's apparent to me that many here have forgotten or, perhaps, never fully aware of what a huge hit The Byrd's "Mr. Tambourine Man" was when it came out. Every pop station played it practically non-stop for months on end. Perhaps it didn't get as much airplay in the east coast states, just a guess. However here on the Left Coast, The Byrd's were catapulted into super-stardom and "Mr. Tambourine Man" was front and center of all that. It was totally appropriate to select it's iconic intro riff as the one that made the 12-String Rickenbacker, and all 12-string guitars in general, get some recognition.
Additionally, let me add that ever since the release of The Byrd's first albums which, instrumentally speaking, were centered around McGuinn's Ricky 12, I've never been able to get that sound out of my head. As a guitarist for over 60 years, I never got around to buying a Rickenbacker 12 string as they are not cheap! That is until recently. I opted to pick up the squared-horned version, the 364 model, vs. the round-horned 360 that McGuinn popularized. They sound and play the same. Better late than never!!
I had a huge issue with my spark over bass tone, the app eq partially solves it. But if you use it, you are missing out on tons of other pedal sims on the MOD chain link, like terms and chorus. So I bought a very simple and cheap Behringer 7 band eq pedal. It solves the problem 100% and now I can use all the pedals from the MOD. It works good but feels cheap, but hey, its for my house desktop amp. If it lasts 4-5 years it payed for itself, and then I'll buy a better one.
Hi. great review. I am wanting to purchase one of these for my 60th Next month. But I cannot find any online store that will ship to me in Melb, Australia. bit of a downer I recon.
He takes 2 minutes 18 seconds to actually get to the point and then doesn’t play the riff correctly. I am gone and never to return to this channel. Pathetic.
Just seeing this for the first time. What a great list, I've gone through the comments and pulled out a bunch more. One that's a fave of mine is "Put Another Log on the Fire" Tompall Glaser. Learned it back in late 70's, early 80's and recently revisited. Also pretty much anything by John Prine...Dear Abby, Sam Stone, Grandpa was a Carpenter...the list is endless. Really enjoyed this video, thanks for posting!
"Walk Right In" by the Rooftop Singers in the early '60s featured a trio, a woman, and two guys, all singing a folk song and the men each playing two 12 string guitars. This tune was very famous. The 12 string guitar was always liked by any who heard it, and it was used on many recordings.
Dude- you gotta try a Guild. There are others out there, but the two that seem to float to the top (without having to mortgage the house) are the Guild and the Taylor. (Martin 12s are OK, but tend to sound kinda "chime-y" above the 4th/5th fret... other than that... there are a lot of 0 - 000 size 12s coming onto the market now- Breedlove, Taylor... lots of wonderful 12 string guitars out there. My favorite is the Guild, so far.
What made the double neck SG with the twelve string on top famous? I can think of Jimmy Page using it to play "Stairway To Heaven" live but I don't think he used it on the studio recording. Don Fedler used it on live shows with the Eagles back in the day as well.
