Thanks so much! I appreciate you logging on the chat today too. I haven't contributed too much stuff that hasn't been done but I believe my rendition of the Eight Miles High intro is the closest on YT. It took quite a bit of work! Mark
My 1st chat, Mark you really rock. And you did 8 Miles High without finger picks now that is impressive. I grew up with the Beatles so it was great seeing George solos, you do it so effortless
@@8MinuteAxe finally, done with my day and i put on Wichita Lineman on. i had forgotten how good he was. then wouldn't you know up pops By The Time I Get To Phoenix. as an AZ boy i can't help but like that one. posting this gave me time for that 3rd time through for this vid too.
Glen Campbell was definitely one of the best 12-string players of all time. Great playing, as usual. I've got to get back to my man cave tonight and take out the 12-string.
Hey Brian. Thanks for the tip. I'm on it. I have it on my short list of songs to check out. I appreciate you checking out the video as well. Please take care. Mark
WOW!! you are amazing. i played a 12 string framus 60's to early 70's and i sucked. but a good way to meet ladies. best song for 12 string ever??? walk right in hands down.
Hey, Malcolm if you're interested. I have a video titled. The song that made the 12 string famous in which I give a brief history of the 12 string and then do a complete cover of walk right in. Either way, thanks so much for the kind words and for checking out the video. Have a great week and take mark.
@@8MinuteAxe thanks. i am not a robot as everyone asks. can't play anymore but build a few. i have a 12 on hand that i believe is ok. are you near new hampshire? i would love to see you beat it up.
I noticed that you played William Tell on your Reverend 12 - Love that fretboard so nice to play! I think that you added to Global Warming with that shred - awesome playing, Mark! You inspire and entertain all of us! Another fantastic video. Thank you!
Wow... a maestro. Saw Hollies lsst night playing in 1968 and Nash is playing my Vox Folk 12...never did like its action. Your videos are inspiring me to get a new one.... Anyone want yo buy a Vox 12 string?
Indeed that is some nice shredding Mark. Nothing sounds quite as cool as a 12 string. Walk Right In is a great song too. I've enjoyed your channel for 4 years now, so keep it going I say.
I've been thinking of getting it. I've had It in my Amazon cart for about a week. Do you have any other electric 12 strings to compare too period if you have time, shoot me an email and let me know what you think of it so far, thanks so much for checking out the video and for the kind wordenjoy the rest of your week and take care mark.
@@8MinuteAxe sadly it's the only electric 12 string I own. I only played different ones in a store. In my opinion it is very much worth the money. The bridge single coil is very thick sounding almost like a humbucker but it also has that single coil sound imo. The neck is pretty thin for a twelve string. Plays really good. I do own a Fender american original 60s six string strat and the neck is pretty close on both instruments. So not too thin but very comfortable. It also records very well. 4 weeks of pure joy so far. Quality wise it's right there with the squier classic vibe series. Thanks for the videos and have a great week as well! Robert
Hey Robert. Thanks so much for the info. FYI, usually when somebody responds to a thread I don't catch it because YT doesn't notify me but I remembered to check regarding this one. :). I just bought a brand new mac otherwise I'd buy one today. I only have 5 other electric 12 strings... Seriously, I appreciate it. Take care. Mark
@@8MinuteAxe my wife would legally declare me insane if I bought 5 12-string guitars and she even plays guitar :D Enjoy it while it lasts ✌🏻 Best, Robert
I had a 12 string back in the late 60s. I haven't played a 12 in over 50 years. However, your videos inspired me to get back to my beginnings. I now have four 12 strings and looking for more. I love that Reverend.
Hey Mark. I really appreciate you taking the time to let me know that. About 22% of my viewers are over the age of 65 and almost 50% are over the age of 50. There's nothing more satisfying as a teacher than to motivate older players to pick it up for the first time, to pick it up again, or to be inspired to play more. I mean that very sincerely. I've had students in their late 60s tell me that the decision to pick up the guitar was one of the best they ever made. I had a 72 year old student tell me last week that although it took over 55 years, I finally demystified music theory for him. That was awesome. Please enjoy your Sunday and take care. Mark
Well done on the William Tell shred. Glen Campbell was an amazing musician and singer. I was lucky enough to visit his museum in Nashville last month, which is fantastic. His first guitar cost $5 and his father made a capo from a corncob and a nail! We don’t how how fortunate we are with the gear available to us.
Your ability is very "Tellin" on the 12 string! Also, you look like you made a decent recovery. Thanks again Mark for what the 12 string can achieve.-GM
Excellent Mark! Especially your opening solo. I’m thinking of getting an electric 12 string. Can you do a review on the Gretch electric Hollowbody 12 string in near future, I’m thinking of getting one.. they don’t carry them in the local music stores in my town.Would love to hear your thoughts on that make. Best.
Hey Steve. Thanks so much for the kind words. Shoot me an email and I'll send you a ton of tabs. Don't worry, everything is free.i used to follow that line with "I don't sell anything" but since I invented and launched the Rok-Lok strap lock that's not true anymore. But, I only sent one email ever about it to the community. Either way, I appreciate your time and comment. Have a great weekend. Mark
Hey Brother. Always a pleasure to hear from you. I hope you're having a great weekend. Please stay safe and take care. Mark. Please email me your address when you have a chance. markaranalli@gmail.com. I have something I want to send to you (don't worry, it's FREE and very useful and no strings attached, pardon the pun!)
Hey, brother, great to hear from, how are you feeling? Shoot me an email on these days. I appreciate the support I think it's going on what four years now.
One of my favorite 12 string songs is "The Rain Song" which I had never heard before I started watching your channel. You have actually opened my eyes to a wider array of music. Thanks!!
Closer to the heart plays the 12 string riff in the middle of the song...does that count??? Also I'm intrigued about the songs from Genesis that feature 12 string solos....
Lots of Genesis stuff has 12-string work. All three guitarists used 12-strings (Mike, Anthony, and Steve). I've done Closer to the Heart in many videos. I'm a huge Rush fan. One of my very first videos was a tribute to Neil the day after he died. I was stunned. It's undoubtedly the most I've ever been affected by the death of somebody I didn't know personally. I would say it's restating the intro and not a solo. Also, there is a great solo in that one. But it's subjective. You can easily make an argument that it is. :). Mark
Thank you for taking the time to watch and support the channel and to comment. Do everything you can to make your practices count? They don't need to be long or grueling. Just keep moving the needle forward, try to catch yourself when you start noodling too much (we all do it) and always have a good warm up exercise. That way, if you end up getting distracted or if life gets in the way, you still got in 3 minutes of good practice (again, always moving forward!). I hope that helps a little. Stay safe and take care. Mark
Side note Dear Prudence is a beautiful and melodic on the 12 string. It is my go to after a tough day. Some people have a comfort pet I have a comfort 12 string. :)
There's some sick playing on that track. It took me at least 6 hours to get down Vaseline Machine Gun and my performance is rough at best.12 STRING MASTERS: LEO KOTTKE: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kJcyI45otxU.html. I saw him live here in Atlanta about a year and a half ago. It was a good concert. Not great. He didn't tell many stories and didn't play any 12-string. Thanks so much for taking the time to watch the video and to comment. I sincerely appreciate your time. Have a great week and take care. Mark
@8MinuteAxe Mark,I saw him back in the 70s I was real close to him about 3 feet away and although he was slightly hammered, I observed his playing on the 12 string extremely fast, he was sitting on a bar stool. His speed was unbelievable to say the least.
Hey James. I really appreciate that. The one great thing about youtube is that I learned to stay in my lane and just do the best I can do. There are so many gifted musicians out there. I don't consider myself one. I've had to scratch, crawl, and put in a lot of practice over the years to make a living doing this. I never thought my career would be peaking at 50. LOL. Thanks so much for your time and kind words. If you're not a channel subscriber, please consider it but either way enjoy the rest of your weekend. Mark
Brilliant William Tell - you show off the soloing possibilities of the 12-string really well. Would love to hear Flight of the Bumblebee on the 12-string - a real finger buster!
Another really fine job. Glen Campbell challenge you are a brave one. Hole Hearted by Extreme nice melody and fun to play. Really cool with some vocals to. Thanks Mark!!
I discovered your channel because I was looking for info on the Mandocaster 12 from Eastwood. Let's just say, I may have found my latest RU-vid obsession!
Hey Jonathan. That's really nice of you to say. People sometimes don't realize how much it means to get comments about how much a video has inspired them or motivated them. It's certainly one of the biggest rewards I get from doing this and it's always the first thing that keeps me trying to get at least 3 (usually 4 or 5) videos out each month. I hope you have a great day. Please take care and be well. Mark
Commenting to enter into the 12 string guitar giveaway!! I currently have a right handed 6 string and i play it with my left hand (upside down), because that’s the way I’ve always played guitar 😂. I’ve never played on a 12 string, but would absolutely LOVE to have one and learn!!! I love to challenge myself and grow as a musician. Thanks for providing this opportunity to win one!!! Now on to watch this video 2 more times 😂!
Mark, that was pretty brave taking on a Glen Campbell instrumental, particularly on a 12! I don't recall precisely, but I may have seen him on his TV show doing Classical Gas on a 12-string, but that would have been a long time ago. BTW - just had my HB RB-612CS delivered the other day: it's purchase was based largely on your reviews and demonstrations. Just learned the intro to Hotel California (easier than I thought!) - I've been wanting to learn that and play it on an electric 12 for eons! (Since the album came out, actually....) You continue to inspire me!
I like the Glen Campbell reference. He was a great guitar player, as I said in a comment when I first started watching your channel, Glen and Roy It would he hard to find any two better.
This is a great video, thank you. I love your promoting for 12-string guitars, it's really inspiring for me as 12-string player. Will you do a review on the new Squier Paranormal Jazzmaster XII?
The full cover I did is just about all 12 string. I used four guitars on it. 2 Taylor 12 tracks, 1 Takamine 12 track, and 1 Taylor 6 playing just the higher harmony and the banjo type part. Check it out and let me know what you think. Thanks! Take care and have a great day. Mark
I got a question for you. I'm in the market for a 12 string acoustic and have my eye on an Alvarez that has an LR Bragg preamp but no tuner. Do you consider the fact there's no built-in tuner a deal breaker on a 12 string acoustic?
Hi Mark, this is a great video. I had no idea someone could play that fast on a 12 string. I know you recommend a soft pick but are you using a medium or heavy pick to get that amazing speed. Please enter me in the Vangoa guitar giveaway,
None of these are shredding. Satriani, Malmsteen, etc are ALL the definition of what shredding is. Just playing a solo is not what shredding is. Shredding is lightning fast and when many techniques are used.
Common man, it's all good fun. FYI, if you're an Yngwie fan, he just released a new course on truefire. I agree with you that shredding is more a style than velocity, but it's not like I click baited. And you got see me explode...the things I do for youtube. Most important thing here is thanks for watching. I do appreciate your time and your comment. Take care and be well. Mark
