I think 1/100 people will take it offroad. 99/100 people just want the cheapest ebicycle on market to ride (considerably alot faster than walking, without looking like a clown on small 14" wheels) on flat roads to work due to the ever increasing living cost .
I've gone a bit higher end with several top spec Titanium 90/00s MTB builds, with upgrades to top spec 00s components (e.g., 10x XTR). They are both fun and can actually compete with modern XC bikes. Necessary upgrades are a dropper seat-post and a high spec fork (which means finding a MTB frame with a 1-1/8 steerer), ideally adjustable like a 2010 Fox Talas -- with that you can hit moderate jumps with the slacker geometry, but then drop down to the steeper head tube angles for blitzing the climbs. With the fork upgrade you can also run a front disc, which is really all you need in terms of better stopping -- high-spec 26" disc wheels can be bought cheaply on Ebay. As for tires, if you get the right frame you have some great options -- My 1999 Moots YBB runs 2.5" x 26", and my 2000 Mongoose Titanium Pro fits 2.3" x 27.5" wheels, so plenty of traction and speed.
I just don't get the obsession with USB chargeable items. Don't people think at all what happens when the chargeable battery is EOL? I'm damn sure people won't solder a new one in.
Hi, maybe a funny question but I never had 1x12 bikes. On 3x7 on left handle you change 3 speeds, on right one other 12. So on the 1x12 on right side I guess you change thoes 12 speeds, but what on the left side, since it has only one speed?
I also live in Texas and I’m buying a hardtail I love going down enduro trails but don’t get to very often in Texas I found a Elroy do you think it would be ok to ride here in Texas
This guy has his head up somewhere. I just bought the cruiser version, and am really happy with it. Why does he think that a $400 bike would be perfect out of the box, when you have to assemble it yourself? Kyle, I made it a few seconds in and gave up, if you're a bike guy you know how ridiculously easy V brakes are to setup. Stop being a gate-keeper. These bikes are decent for the money. I've been riding bikes for 40 years. This is my first venture into E bikes, it's cheap. Don't buy a Hyundai and whine it doesn't perform like a Ferrari...
I resto-modded a 97 Mongoose Rockadile (pre-Walmart). Cues drive train, Salsa cockpit with TransX external dropper. Nothing is original anymore. The only old components are the Marzocchi EXR Pro fork, XT V brakes and Salsa Delgado rims. No longer a trail terror as I have newer bikes for that, but I ride it daily around the neighborhood and urban group rides. Get a lot compliments on it. Don't ask what the cost was to upgrade. I rationalize with myself that its not about the cost of the build but the journey. ha ha.
Yeah boy!!! Definitely need to upgrade your fork. I went from a 150mm SunTour (came with the bike) to a 160mm Marzocchi Z1 Air on my Norco Torrent HT. World of difference. Also, I highly suggest upgrading to the Sram Codes over those Levels. I mean you already invest $2K on you bike; might as well go full in. Nice bike btw.
As a fellow mt. biker I appreciate your "most important" cargo being your bike. :) Thanks for the thorough review. Love that it has its own hot spot, thanks for pointing that out.
Hey Cobra Kyle, what do you think about the Superior XP 929 - Lightweight Carbon Hardtail for 1200? Im debating whether I should get the Xtrada 7 for 950 or spend the extra 250 for the 929. Thanks
Probably don't like Koolstops. They are squeaking on both rims. They are preinstalled with toe in both front and rear, but after a while started squeaking. Original pads didn't squake.
I have tried their gravel tires and they have been really solid. I can imagine the Mtn tires are really nice too. So this is what I have been doing with my recent tire purchases. #1 I rarely buy Maxxis anymore, unless they at a serious discount like 40% off. #2 I look at other brands that often go on sale. Kenda,Conti,Schwalbe and Victoria. I actually just bought some Teravail 50% off and some Schwalbe at 30% off. Let’s be rear. We rarely need a specific tire urgently and can afford to wait and save or buy and store till you need them. Just my thoughts, especially now when the bicycle industry is starting to collapse.
I just complete the 100 mile flying wheels cascade ride out in Washington on my full suspension bike. Was curious if anyone else was as stupid as ambush or stupid as me.
It took me almost exactly 10 hours, averaging 10 mph including stops. I brought my go pro with me, but was to beat to even think about keeping my signal ancient battery alive the while trip.
Hi Kyle. Nice video, I have a 2016 Connect with a similar set-up. I do have one question that is not related to the Connect though: do you know the person with the sunshade that is parked next to you? I would like to know what brand that sunshade is. Thank you.
How can that be a dream bike, no internal cabling, ugly cables hanging everywhere, they'll get caught on everything, pulled and stretched, no thanks! 😆
