In Japan, you really aren't paying for the freshness or quality of ingredients anymore in Sushi. Everyone has access to great stuff. What you're paying for is the skill and technique of the chef, and the Omakase experience. $133 for that master to walk you through a meal is a freaking bargain.
@sl33ksnypr285652
@sl33ksnypr285652 2 года назад
@@KS-xk2so not only walk you through, but he's such a sweet guy. I've gone into sushi restaurants that have stellar service and paid around $60-70 per person, and while that is a great dining experience, it doesn't even come close to kyubey. I could never afford to do it as a regular thing, but if I could, I would pay the chef $200+ for the service he gave. The man is almost too nice, very humble, but I feel like it doesn't matter whether he's talking to the president or just some random person, he gives the same exemplary service. And that's worth every penny.

Yup, the whole "we selected the best ingredients/we didn't even try to make it expensive" etc. joints that just throw truffles, (actually cheap) gold leaf and caviar on stuff are the worst. They're never enjoyable and everything feels so painfully staged. This place on the other hand has a chef that is down to earth and what's important to note, is that it's goddamn omakase. You don't just pay 100$ for a few pieces of sushi, you pay for the experience, for the chef's time, for the meal that's personally adjusted to you etc. AND on top of that, you get really high quality stuff, expertly handled. It's hard to argue that something like this wouldn't be worth it, when you can drop similar amounts on a game you enjoy or even just a festival of some sort that's just in the medium price range. I'd much prefer this evening sitting down and having amazing food over going to any concert or sports event.

So I came back to this video to report back on the middle place, Sushi Dokoro Shun, because I didn't feel like there was as much commentary on the place. That place is super nice and chill, laid back, despite the ambiance. Also, when he asked if he could give them what he thought was most delicious, that wasn't just a play on Worth it. That's the resteraunts thing. You could legit pick 9-11 items there and enjoy yourself in that wave, or have sushi chef decide for you, or both. Like it's very intimate, this setting with the chef gauging your reactions. It's the polar opposite in a way from the first place where you're crammed in a booth getting food essentially from a robot. Or if you have no time, it still does take out. But I think if you go there, you should go for the experiences with the Chef. I think that experience alone was Worth It.

My thoughts exactly - a three star Michellin restaurant with personal service is an insanely good deal. Like getting a Mercedes for the price of a Ford.

And tipping is an insult in Japan, so you don't have to consider that either.
@So_Appalled
@So_Appalled 5 лет назад
spencereng it’s not an insult. It’s just that tipping isn’t a thing in Japan, so when they receive a tip they don’t know what to do with the extra money, which can confuse the people receiving the tip. Sort of like if you were really hungry and knew that 10 chips would fill you up, so you order 10 chips but then receive 15.
