ladies and Gentlepeople! In this knife talk we want to share why both a cheap and an expensive knife can be worth it. Wanna know why? Keep watch the bloody video above.

Bark River Knives!

I hear you ask, why are they more expensive than in the USA and why are a lot of them sold out! In Europe you'll have to pay tax (21% + shipping + administration cost) all this has been paid already by Knives and Tools so you don't have to go trough the hassle. But why are they sold out you ask? There is only 1 of every knife because they are (semi) custom! Just tell those stinky guys at Knives and Tools what you're looking for and they will check if they can order it for you with their next batch!

Totally changed my mind about this. When I started to collect some knifes, I also purchased in the price range of 200-300 Euros. Not too expensive but still hesitated to use them regularly or for intense tasks, because I somehow wanted to take care, not to wear them off etc. Now I realized that a Mora (for example) is good enough for almost anything I do with a knife and it just doesn´t matter if it breaks. You just buy a new one. At least it is a tool.

Yes, it IS, and i can highly recommend Duloknives, especially in K390, Vanadis4E, Vanadis 8 and of course in Elmax. I own about 60 fixed blade knives, 10 of them are Dulos, some Bark River, and many other Custom knives. But there is no knife like a Dulo knife. They are incredable sharp, full custom made, and the best value you can get for a custom knife. One of my favorite knives ist the Bark River Springbok First Production Run in CPM3V, but this knife can't compete my Dulos. 😁

@@dermessernerd5898 how much did the gentleman charge you for your dulo knives and how long was the wait. I’m interested in the dulo Leuko laminated k390. I checked out the website but I couldn’t find any prices
@dermessernerd5898
@dermessernerd5898 3 года назад
@@CarlosLopez-tb4yv , because, they are Custom made, the prices depend in the Steel, the length of your Knives and the shape/ grind in your blade. My Connor knife in K390 with a blade length of 12 cm and a handle Made of white Corian was about 180 Euro. My Aury in K390 with tue Same blade length and handle, made of stabilized elder burl, with a convex Grind, was about 200 Euro.

Ordered today my MALANIKA PUUKKO CPM4V, birch wood handle, brass bolsters, leather sheat. The price is absolutely ok, I've seen ugly factory knives costing more and with incomparably lower quality. Only thing that makes me suffer is that I'll have to wait 14 months to get it... Yes people, 14 months. But it's really worth the waiting.

I have a custom knife from Dulo knives. It's a copy of a Fallkniven A1 made in Vanadis 4E with G10 (they would have done wood for same price) handles. Very good price for quality workmanship. It's an absolutely wonderful knife, better than an A1 Pro for less than half the price. Scrapyard Dogfather in SR77 - Fantastic steel and heat treatment which you boys have never used on your channel. Check out Busse Combat (or sister companies like Swamp Rat or Scrapyard), they make some quality knives, usually in limited production runs in different steels than you're used to.

Great video guys. I wanted to thank you for doing the video on the mora 125 years special edition knife. I have been collecting knives for about 20 years now ( I'm 27, so most of my life), and my tastes have progressed towards high end production knives, and customs, but I work in construction and landscaping, so I normally try to carry one nice knife, and one cheaper knife that I don't mind abusing. Well I had been trying to find a fixed blade that I could thrash on instead of my Hinderer that I have been carrying. After watching your video, I was actually able to find one of the exact knives that you featured in the video, and it was only about $45. It has actually become one of my top 5 favorite knives and I have carried it every day since it came in the mail last week. It's not the nicest knife I own by a long shot, but the thing is a great performer, and it's such a simple, light weight knife.....it just works....hard to describe. I would definitely suggest anyone looking for a simple, inexpensive, reliable fixed blade to find one. Last I checked there was still some left on Amazon

The problem with the super steel compared to basic 1095 or even USA 420HC is that unless you are reviewing a steel by cutting rope until it duals you really won't ever notice in actual normal working conditions. That is what you guys need to share in a video... I'm all for buying awesome knives who cares what people buy with their own money that's their business I just think that some folks seriously believe that lesser low cost won't work. I can use my Gerber 420HC Strongarm all day at camp building shelter making feather sticks and batoning kindling and have no issues with edge problems. Will it cut paper at the end NO but one minute on a belt strop and yes it will. Now these awesome high end steels and knives are freaking awesome but in the end its all about ownership and personal wants...... I want an LT WRIGHT GNS some day, will it outperform my Garberg or my Ontario SK5 with basic camp work ??? NO not really BUT I will look freaking awesome while feathersticking and feel like I can build a better shelter😂 but in reality I'm just the same dude doing the same crap I could with my Gerber Strongarm😂

Hello Guys from Brian in Alaska!!! Another good video and subject to showcase!!! Some food for thought and added content >>> While I think you guys made some very good points and valid excellent references to various knives (from inexpensive yet good affordable quality/value to the upper ends of more expensive sorts of expenditures and again all quality).... couple of things to have better been emphasized: A.) Quite a bit more emphasis with regards to blade design, grind, and rockwell hardness vs. steel-types, materials, etc. (highlighting toughness in extremes, edge keenness, high to lower hardness for edge retention to sacrificing some edge retention etc.) B.) Steel selections... easy to touch up in the field vs. a tedious scenario for even highly experienced w/ the optimal/proper tools w/ technique etc. C.) The conditions/environments that are most suitable for use from the knives selected. For example: the AUTINE Leukku may be praiseworthy art, however in D2 to whatever the hardness would rarely if ever be my recommendation steel-type for a frigid-extreme Northern working large knife... and I'm nearly certain most Scandinavian Knife-Makers would agree with me.

I wish a reviewer would show that the Garberg handle material actually becomes quite grippy and gets a semi tacky feel to it. To many reviews that dont use the knives long enough to see these things over time....I know its hard when ya got a ton of blades like you guys do, putting in the hours on certain blades is darn near impossible. Lots of people talk about it not being the typical rubber stuff they use but IMHO its an excellent cross between wood and micarta and is bomb proof. I've used mine for more than half a year and I gotta say IMO its a perfect knife for crafting and all things survival. Thanks for letting people know how awesome it is...,,I think if ya guys were able, it would even become more of a winner.

Hey guys! What about spanish brand knives? I personally recomend Cudeman, Muela, Miguel Nieto and CDS. Tons of quality models, under 120 euros, like Cudeman 148 bushcraft, Cudeman MT5, Miguel Nieto SG2 or Muela Kodiak or Rhino. Great videos! Congratulations!

well im a hobby knifemaker aswell and i can say that its very hard to find powder steel to buy except for rwl34 (atleast in germany) i mostly use 80crv2 and o1 steel because i also can heatbtrest it myself and these steels have a good performance overall but i managed to get some cpm rex m4 from america and an old plate of cpm t 420v which is like cpm s90v nowadays. but yeah the big point is its really hard to get your hands on powder steel and also its like 20 times the price than a simple carbon steel

+Rowen we are aware of this. It's also much more expensive to heat treat some of these steels properly. That's awhy it's hard to find people who can work with it or are willing to work with it.

Speaking of the Malanika puukkos, Danijel doesn't heat treats himself the powder steels you mentioned. He sends the blades off for HT to a laboratory, while he heat treats himself 80CrV2, 52100, n690Co and D2.

I have to disagree about the mora being a beginner knofe, many old school very experienced bushcraft/camping folks use moras as their go to knife and most used edc knife, it's all about knowing your knife and it's capability, what they can do and not do

Talking about custom knives. You guys should check out Ben Orford knives in England. I have a few and they are the most beautiful knives, with amazing heat treatment. I would love to see you look at them. Cheers from Australia.

Great video, once again guys. Have you had any experience with knives made by Busse Combat or Lon Humphrey? The are two of my favorite makers, for very different reasons (they make very different knives). Lon Humphrey's Kephart made of hand forged 3V would likely appeal to you... I have one; truly excellent. Carry on!

+Anthony Kammas we haven't yet tried them because we can only import them ourselves which makes the price around 1.5x more expensive . However we will try them eventually I guess haha

I figured as much regarding the price--too bad. I have a very close friend who is Dutch and have visited Holland, so I'm familiar with expenses, etc. Busse is releasing new blades now, so you can at least avoid secondary market prices by buying direct. Lon's knives can be found at most US online merchant sites that carry Bark River. Thanks for the reply. AK

Condor Terrasaur all the way, OR step up to the Terava Jaakari Puukko. PKS (Pathfinder Knife Shop) Scorpion is also very nice. I would like to see a Condor Bushlore with Micarta and 1095 Steel. Check out the BPS Knives coming out of the Ukraine. His knives will be awesome when he gets some better steel. After all considerations, the best value is the Mora Companion HD.

Which Mora should i get ? One under 20€. And do they send sheaths with it?

Thanks for covering all price ranges, from cheap to expensive, because many people can not afford to buy the expensive knives (I know I would if I had enough money). I bought my first Mora last week, thanks to your videos, and I am blow away at how good this knife is for $20us. I will eventually buy a Garberg, as well, I just don't have the $90 to spend on it right now. You talk about different steels a lot. Do you have a video where you explain the differences between the various steels and what they do? If not, can you make one? I want to understand why one steel is better than another, or why you call one your "favorite steel" and another one is crap.

I would love to get some of those expensive blades you show, but my budget is a nope :-P My Cold Steel Kobun, Kershaw Machete, and Ka-Bar blades are about as expensive as I can justify. I make some campfires on occasion in the back yard but otherwise it's very routine B/S that a dollar knife could probably handle. I love watching you beat the S*** out of all different knives, let's me know what is good and what's not when I may treat myself to a new blade.

Schrade makes many interesting but not expensive knifes that are very robust. Also Lionsteel makes interesting pieces. And of course ColdSteel has several great knifes with very reasonable price.

You guys ever use an adventure sworn bushcraft knife? It's a custom knife maker in New York and their knives are simply magnificent. I just got my second one in the mail a few days ago and it's not only aesthetically stunning but it's easily the most comfortable and best performing knife I've laid my hands on. They make several models but my favorite ones are the Mountaineer and the Tradesman model they build. It's why I had to order one of each. You guys should really check them out . I guarantee you'll be impressed by what they put out.
