Seing someone with a 50 cc bike makes me appreciate my 125

Front brake is probably stuck because the calliper and hose are full of the same crud that was found in the master cylinder. It takes just one previous owner to be a complete moron to spoil or sometimes ruin what was a good bike.

This was the first bike I ever bought. It was 1982 and the height of the Moped craze. All my friends had mopeds..which were all also about 50cc...I convinced my Dad...a recently retired NYPD, no less to let me buy it with only a learner's permit....I worked as a dishwasher and saved up the $650 or so that the bike cost. I rode this thing alllll over Long Island...I still regret selling it.

Hey Goldguy I'm from Germany so sorry for my bad English.. I think if you're shifting especially from second into third gear your clutch is slippering.. Either its the wrong oil or you need to replace your clutch lamellas.

Hey, ive done some research out of curiosity about the recommended compression for the bike and ive found that it should be atleast 120psi, so the top end rebuilt would make the bike alot more powerful. You probably know this already, but i just wanted to say just incase you would find it helpful, love your videos, keep it up :)

did you hold the throttle open when checking the compression? It would not run with 25psi

I loved and still talk about my RX50 Special to this day. They say it was a give away but I traded my Yamaha Towny and $900 and bought my Black brand new RX50 Special from Jims Import Cycles in Wichita Kansas. My best friend also bought the exact same model at Jim's also. Never saw any more in Wichita when I was young. 5th gear and riding low mine would top out at 58 MPH and at redline screaming. (Sure beat 28 mph from my Towny and less from the Italian Garelli with peddles.) We went to hell and back on those little bikes. Every trail, dirt road, concrete road and I had over 30k when I sold it for my first real bike at 18. Never spent a dime in maintenance except for oil change, two stroke oil, spark plug, and tiny head gasket when I would scrape carbon of the piston once a year. Thanks for the memories and I have owned all kinds of bikes but my RX50 has a special place in my head.

here are some 2stroke riding tips: (sorry if you already knew these) 1. When braking, you obviously close the throttle, makes senses. But you have to pull in the clutch as well! This takes the load off of the engine and ensures your piston will not seize. this also applies when going down hill and having your throttle closed because you don't want to accelerate more. 2. Let it warm up more by driving it easy, you blast away in the neighboorhoud to 7-8k rpm, and sure it's aircooled but allow the cilinder and gear oil to get up to a higher temperature.

From what i've seen about installing the petcock i'll give you some advice:-Remove the gas from the tank first,that wont make a mess and it's easy to remove since you remove the fuel line,you just need a bottle or something to store gas then turn the petcock to the on position,wait for it to run out of gas then proceed to remove the petcock. -Never wear that smartwatch while working on a bike,remove it before going to work or you'll get something that is scratchy and dirty. That's just to help you not to make a mess in the future. Edit:And by the way,it seems like you have low compression,cuz i have a suzuki m15-2,which is a 50cc 2t bike,and well it has full compression so when you kick,it's not light like when you brought it to your garage first time.

You need to rebuild the brake caliper. I took a bike out of storage after 4 years in a garage and my front brake locked up. They got so hot the pads were smoking.

Hey, It might be the the fuel mixture is being the holdback on the speed. My derbi's oiling system works the same way and if you give it a full throttle on low rpm's, it will mix the max amount of oil possible. Once it makes to the reservour, you're stuck with the high mixture for couple of minutes and just slow down until it almost dies. Smokes a lot, got stuck on the road like that once. To prevent it, just give the throttle accordingly to the speed and if you hit the highest rpm's, give the max throttle. Works for me every time.

that is a real find. i haven't seen more than a half a dozen of them in real life, ever. i don't think many were imported into this country. all the styling of the bigger bikes, with a teeny tiny gas sipping engine.

You need a rebuild kid for the break caliper at the disk as well as the master. Also a new rings would help , no guts at all on that thing even for 50 cc. Rebuilt that caliper im sure that same shit is all inside your blake line and caliper and lube up them pistons real nice. I cant believe that thing even ran with only 25 pounds of compression! I know they dont put out alot but dang! Lol i laughed my ass off when it didnt climb over 25 and u were like "shit" lol

Two strokes have a lower compression but still that's very low .Clean the exhaust out too , normally causic soda is used but be careful ! The front brake sticking is either the caliper pivot or the caliper piston dirty and seals need replacing . Good luck , almost there

6th gear? Is it really a 6 speed? I thought those engines only had 5 speeds, mine only has 4 speeds even. But about the compression, those engines just have low compression even when they are "new and fresh" so don't expect any super high compression from it. But yeah 25psi sounds very very low...

Those Yamaha Rx series were gold of 2 stroke series.But i am surprise to see that Rx50 has 6 gears.In India we have lot of rx series bikes like Rx100,Rx135,RXZ,RXG but nly with 4 gears.RX135 and Rxz 5 speed thr also.I have Rx100 with 12 BHP power n a total beast.Required very low maintance. I suggest you to ported the piston n it will run way battr.

good effort as usual goldguy, that lil' yamaha is a nice around town runner. keep it stock but def rebuild top end with new piston and rings to make it beast and create content. anyone with a brain would take that yamaha over a china shit bike or scooter any day of the week. power will be there after rebuild. on a safety note, have your containers ready when handling gas & fluids before you get hurt or burn parents house down.

You know you can take off the fuel tank right to change the petcock

Definitely should be around 110psi but then again your oil will also change the actual compression ratio. You can change the amount of oil in each gallon of gas and see what it the engine itself likes just because you think one likes 25:1 doesnt mean it runs best you then change to 32:1 and it runs better you go less about 35:1 and it runs bad again then go back to 32:1 and it runs better then you know what mix it likes. I do this with chainsaws and always always start with a heavy oil mix and lean the oil mix out through each gallon to see where it starts running better

First things frist: Doing some Burnouts with your new bike

You need to adjust the jetting otherwise you will need to do a topend rebuild every other week. I would recommend getting main and pilot jets. Im not to sure about the carburstor, but its probally a 14 og 17,5mm dellorto carburstor. Could even be a mikuni 16mm, but i really domt see ghat to often.

Just throw the oil pump disconnect it and mix oil with fuel it's better and prevents rust inside tank too

Try putting the exhaust baffle back in to build up some back pressure

my guess on the brake lever sticking is that you did not lube it and the paint you just used is breaking down and grabbing it. Take the lever off, clean out the slot and a little lithium grease and reassemble it. that should fit that.

If the front brake sticking, just open the pump brake flushing cap at the front brake disk. It will flow out the brake oil and your front brake wont be functional at this time.

This bike is actually a REALLY rare find. It was only made to raffle off at Yamaha dealerships so it would be a really nice find for $150 no matter the shape of it.

Lay bike on other side; stops fuel flowing out like that. On skin is really not good ! :( try to avoid that again. or double up with gloves too. Throtle wide open for compression test :)

Just buy a new cylinder kit. I have a dt50r with the same engine as the rx, the only difference is that i only have 4 gears and that my cylinder was realy restricted from factory due to swedish laws (50cc bikes are only alowed to have a top speed of around 20 mph). I bought a 50cc sport kit and it went alot faster. Stock cylinder with just a tuning exhaust went around 40 mph. The top speed went up to 60 mph and the power band got realy fun with the slighty ported sport kit. The kit was realy cheap too, around 150$. It's your call but from experience i would buy the sport kit.

Never clean foam air filters with petroleum as it shrinks the foam and constricts the air flow

The pilot jet and air screw is for 1/4 throttle, the needle adjustment that you were messing with is just for 1/4 to 1/2 throttle and the main jet is for wide open, also float level affects it, go check out Cameron neimelas jetting video its 45 mins long but if you watch and listen to the whole thing there wont be anything you wont know after, but yes also the 30 psi is also your problem

You need to check the compression with the throttle wide open, otherwise you won't get accurate results, especially on a two stroke.
