I have been watching you for many years. This last version is a fake of your product. I remember when you had different battery versions and they were like that too. I know you have developed your product, I would like to be able to test such lighting someday. Currently, I can't afford it in Poland. Maybe someday. Good luck

planning to use this for our hospital bike. can you update the color scheme to become more like ambulance beacon (flashing white/red)?. currently the closest setting is robocop (flashing blue/red) - more towards police beacon.

Have you thought of experimenting with cob style led lights much brighter / less spots but consumes a bit more power?
@LightModeHelmets
@LightModeHelmets 14 дней назад
Hey yeah, I looked into it a while back, but you could still see the point of each light source and making each source addressable (so that it can animate) is not readily available. Addressable COB LEDs are only addressable in like 10 cm segments. The tech I developed is plenty bright and not too power-hungry so I think it is a good balance. I may look into COB again for future projects though. Thanks for commenting!

@LightModeHelmets
@LightModeHelmets Месяц назад
We don't design them for specific helmets. Rather, we designed our kits to fit all types of helmets. As long as there is surface area for the Night Shift LED strips to stick to, then you can attach them to your helmet. You can test fit before you buy by printing out the PDF template and cutting out the LED strip shapes: lightmodehelmets.com/templates

Very well done video overall! Definitely deserves more views. I will say though, you should use the same helmet for each set of LED’s. The helmet you used for the first three was obviously far worse quality than the helmet used for the high quality LED’s.

Overall, great video. Something that is "designed specifically" for a particular use is going to (almost always) be MUCH better than 'generic' type products. However, regarding the conformal coating, I think people need to understand what it truly is, and what it's actually capable of. First off, conformal coating is NOT waterproof, and even calling it "water resistant" isn't entirely accurate. Most types do offer moisture resistance, they most are also NOT permanent. For the great majority of conformal coatings available, once they get wet, they, essentially, "wash off", and the coating needs to be applied again. Failure to do so has the potential of leaving the electronics unprotected. Conformal coatings protect electronics from environmental exposure (and can even help improve durability, albeit to a minor degree), but they don't fully seal the coated electronics. Conformal coatings are designed to help prevent corrosion, as well as current leakage, caused by moisture in the air...but, these coating are NOT designed to get wet for any significant proof of time. That is why manufacturers of confirmation coatings state them as being "water resistant", and not "waterproof". This is also why those same manufacturers recommend re-coating electronics (once the have dried) if they get wet. The only true way of waterproofing electronics is to either seal them inside an airtight, waterproof (ie 'sealed') housing, or to 'pot' them within a waterproof material (such as epoxy). Anything else is just "water resistant"...and, remember, once the electronics have gotten wet, the coating is gone, along with any water-resistance the electronics had. The ONLY way to 'return' the water resistance is to re-spray the electronics with the conformal coating. Other than that, this seems like an excellent product, and one I'd definitely consider getting...if the price wasn't so high. $250 is outrageous. Even $200 (the current 'sale' price) is too much. I could see $150, but not much more then that. So, as much as I like this, and as much as I'd really like to get a set (or two sets...one for my MC backpack), looks like I'll go without. Note that this has nothing to do with the "water resistance" matter, or any thought that the quality isn't good (honestly, I believe it to be of very good quality)...this is purely because of the overly-high pricing.
@daswimmer4004
@daswimmer4004 14 дней назад
It looks like you have a fair understanding of conformal coating, but not so good of business, specifically the economy of scale. For example, if a company manufactures 5 thousand units a year, their cost per unit (which includes R&D, and more) will be much higher than if they manufacture 5 million units per year. The price to the customer must reflect this. Apple sold over 90 million iPhones in 2020. If they could only sell 9 thousand, you'd be paying for one phone more than for a new Tesla.
@ninthislandrc
@ninthislandrc 13 дней назад
@@daswimmer4004 Actually, I do understand the "economy of scale" quite well...as well as macroeconomics & microeconomics. If a business is purposely limiting production, then, of course, manufacturing cost will be high, thus the retail price will be high. But, if a business elected to increase production, so as to lower the per-unit cost, that, in turn, WILL allow the retail price to be lower. Here's the real 'problem'. Not many small businesses are willing to "take the chance" in ramping up production, to help lower the per-unit manufacturing cost, to help lower the retail price. There are two realistic ways a small business can make this happen. The first is by getting additional investors, be it through private finding, or through more traditional VC means. The second...the one most small business owners are scared of actually trying...is to take a "leap of faith", and front additional cash from their own funds, to do what's described above. Send to me, he wants to 'limit' production, which allows him to keep prices high...but, if he increased production, allowing him to lower prices, it's virtually guaranteed that sales would greatly increase. The 'trick' is (using the age-old supply vs demand chart) to determine how many units could realistically be sold at each price-point, what the per-unit manufacturing cost needs to drop to in order to achieve a reasonable profit, and how many units need to be produced to get manufacturing costs low enough to turn that profit. Another figure needing to be "tossed into the ring" is profit percentage...and, this is where I believe the real 'problem' is. Sometimes, you get businesses that purposely want a very high profit percentage. These people care more about "high profits" than they do about units sold. I'm not taking about get-rich-quick schemes...and talking about people with a profit-driven mindset. They don't tend to realize that, by purposely setting a high price, to increase profit margin, that are actually limiting their overall profit possibilities, because that are limiting their customer base through the high pricing they've set. I could easily give several examples of small businesses that, essentially, 'killed' themselves because of this...businesses that lasted several years, turning a very high profit, and appearing to be 'successful'...but, because of the overly-inflated prices, they not only gained far fewer customers than they anticipated, but they also lost customer they had initially gained. A perfect example of a very large, and very well-known, company is experiencing this right now - Disney Parks. Ever since they drastically increased ticket prices after opening the Star Wars areas, they started losing customers. That tried to counter this by increasing prices further, while simultaneously limiting daily attendance...and, this has resulted in further customer & financial losses. Paramount Parks tried the same thing quote a few years ago...and, in the end, they 'lost'. The point is, this could be an absolutely outstanding product, and one of high quality (I'm not saying it 'is', only that it 'could' be)...except that I've also read quite a few comments from people who've been disappointed in the product for varying reasons (most importantly, that the adhesive starts peeling after only a few months)...but, pricing it as high as it is, it will probably never reach it's true market potential.

I mean comparing the cheap version vs the expensive version is a feature of a free market to compare something made cheaply vs something expensive whether or not the cheap one serves your needs just as well as the expensive one. I bought a $20 one off Amazon lasted about a month and half the lighting broke. It did have a way to mount it on the helmet. But after hearing the $200 one has a year long warranty and has more better features I'm going to save up and buy the better version.
