My favorite part of this *AMAZING* theme tune is right around 0:51-1:08... Those vague, *upward* Fender-Rhodes piano harmonies in the background, soaring over those escalating/falling horn/trumpet leads. Very captivating! 🎶🎶🔺️ 🎶🎶🔺️
The winnings cap was dropped around the mid-1980's, all due to Jack Barry renewing business ties with NBC, which did not have a winnings cap. Besides getting NBC to pick up Tic Tac Dough and The Joker's Wild, Hot Potato with Bill Cullen was the first Barry & Enright-produced game show to be carried by the NBC Network since the Quiz Show Scandals (TJW and TTD were originally on CBS before going into First-run Syndication and Break the Bank with Tom Kennedy was on ABC as a daily daytime game show until Fred Silverman cancelled it and was brought back and hosted by Jack Barry as a weekly nighttime game show on First-run Syndication). Match Game during it's time in First-run Syndication changed its format (having the same two contestants play two games total) not as much as for winnings caps, but due to the practice of "bicycling" tapes between the stations that aired it. (Although in truth, it should have adopted the Match Game PM format and have the episodes be self-contained with no returning champion like Wheel of Fortune or The Price is Right.)
