There are inexpensive 2 part automotive paints sold by TCP Global, Summit Racing, Kirker, Speedokote, and other places that are always a better choice than Rustoleum. If you need to skip a fast food meal or two to afford it, just do it. Solid color single stage is easier than metallics if that's a concern.

Problem is most auto parts stores are dishonest and woukdnt ever give a regular person a deal. They seem protective of retail body shops and big profits. I would spray a vehicle with rustoleum.

Your both right in many ways my goal is to show everyone a variety of ways to do their paint jobs no matter the budget. @@smokeskull I have auto paint delivered unless I'm spraying a panel to match an oem paint job, and then it's the color coat only. For an all over repaint, or when I'm painting an engine, engine bay, etc. it's mail order. Primers, sealers, and clear coats: SPI or one of the other companies I listed, either over the phone or click and ship. There's no way I'm going to get scalded paying for a PPG "system" when the primer and clear don't care what basecoat is between them. Single stage works fine on any decent epoxy then urethane primer.

I am a bit disappointed though when you didn't show them without the tape. I'd like to see how the whole cars look after the paint job. No offense intended.

I made a custom rustoleum grey adding small amounts of black to make it darker ended up with what i called cement grey sprayed a 83 chevy malibu with came out pretty good i like seeing your content you have some pretty good ideas on the cheap keep it up

Hi Whitley, I've painted maybe 50 cars in my life, not doing it these days, but I've used Rustoleum very successfully for an inexpensive job a few times. Like any paint job, the prep work has to be good. It always shines very well. But, I agree with some of the other input. There are inexpensive, ready to spray alternatives that hold up better. In any case, loved the video.

what are some of the other paints? I did a rustoleum tractor paint job with my son over the summer. The paint is tough, but very orange peely. So I'd love to hear of some other budget-friendly paints.

I've wondered if adding a little black and a silver pearl could get a dark metallic gray. I remember Ford back in the late 70s early 80s had a gray a lot like this one, I think they called it Dove Gray. Don't hold me to that, I just seem to remember that. How long do you sand it for and what’s the process, do you have a video on this already? I’m about to attempt this for the first time and have a husky spray gun/smoke gray paint but not sure about the sanding yet. Thanks your videos are great!

That's a good question the rule of thumb is you don't want any shiny areas cuz paint won't stick to shiny areas and I always have my final prep wet sanding with 600 grit as long as you do that and clean it really good you should get great results and a good finish feel free to ask any other questions and I will make videos in the near future going more in depth thanks for watching

Plastic works fine you just don't want it to sit too long on the car after painting or the paint flakes off the paper and makes a mess thanks for watching

Just an insane color! I missed the video when it was posted. This is a perfect video for me. I've been looking at either a 1998-2002 Honda Accord Sedan or a TSX of this same year. This is the exact color I had chosen and it looks.great! Do you think adding clear over it would increase the shine? Great video my friend

Yes you could add a 2k urethane clear coat over it to give it a longer lasting shine and uv protection

Lookin' good. Most of my painting is just scuffing the surface and repainting. I was wondering, if I go through to bare, clean metal, can I just use a rattle car primer rather than mixing up a primer to cover just a few small spots? As always, thanks for all of your tips and tricks.

Yes I always do 50% overlap and chase the wet line as I call it to make sure I minimize chances of dry spots I use my 1.4 tip gun and I spray at 28 psi wide open trigger on the regulator thanks for watching

Paint jobs are turning out good. Im about to paint a truck but want to know what kind of gun you use. is it HVLP? And at what pressure do you set for the compressor and if you use a regulator for the gun? Thanks . any feedback will help me out it will be my first time

Yes its a vevor hvlp gun it has a 1.4 tip I use a regulator and spray at 28 psi wide open trigger. It's been a great gun very affordable I did a review video on the set you can check that out if you want and I have Amazon links in the descriptions of every video to the equipment I use so feel free to check them out as well. Obviously adding clear coat would extend the life of the paint job but it should still hold up for many years when applied correctly thanks for watching

Gives me a little more materials but the finish is about the same honestly Rust-Oleum has to be applied a little more aggressively than the typical automotive paint to get the same shine

I don't want to spoil what I'm doing but if you use clear coat that works great you can get 5 to 10 years out of the paint job but you can get four to five years out of a paint job with Rust-Oleum if done correctly with minimal fading so either way for the money it's not bad

Thanks for the video and hanging in there being sick and all. How good does the Rustoleum paint stick to the plastic strip that runs along the edge of the roof (roof trim moulding)? I didn't see you remove it. Do you have to use a plastic adhesive prior to painting or does the paint stick pretty good after sanding?

Rust-Oleum itself doesn't not hold up in 13 UV, the Rust-Oleum 2X spray can holds up longer....

No I'm not but you can add a catalyst hardener you get it at tractor supply it's a pint and you add it to the whole gallon so divide it accordingly or you can get Japan drier which helps drying times as well

That was done in 2 coats one medium and one heavy but I tell most ppl to do 3 coats and build it I've just been spraying these jobs forever

Rustoleum provides no UV protection whatsoever. Spend a few extra bucks on a quality automotive acrylic or urethane enamel. It will hold up much better and produce a much better finish. Rustoleum is fine to paint your tractor.

@whitley I had a question when is it safe to wet sand paint to remove orange peel after painting and can u do that even if there’s no clear coat on ur vid seeing u don’t use clear coat how u remove orange peel hope ur feeling better

Yes you can wet sand buff out Rust-Oleum all the same as if you used any other paint system. I recommend you letting it cure a good week before doing anything with it unless you added a hardener or something to speed up dry times thanks for watching

Hey I sanded it and buffed on my hood of car was looking good but I went to car wash dry it stayed looking haze and tryed buffing again didn’t work stayed very dry looking in some spots what can I do and color is black it was painted with black rest oleum
