at 50/50 it is thin, but dries really quick for the next coat. 5 coats (a good thing) later and a beautiful result appears. Don't use a brush, use high density foam rollers, or a sprayer.
Be sure to show us the wet sand and polish process and the finished job. Thanks for putting out these videos. I've done many paint jobs, never with Rustoleum, but I understand doing things on the cheap! Looking forward to the next video.
GT's Performance, You may have already answered, but what was the paint to thinner ratio used this time? It never fails that with each and every Rustoleum video that comes out, there's some dickhead that's got to chime in wanting to tell us what he knows about painting a car. The truth is that we don't care what he knows we want to see you doing a Rustoleum paint job. Thanks for taking the time to produce these vids., I'm enjoying watching.
Looks good. I have painted cars with same paint. It's all in prep. I was a professional painter and all the haters are idiots. It's all in prep. And sometimes cheap is all you can afford. Sand and buff that thing and keep it waxed you should be good to go
Thomas Algrim - hey bud, do you know what thinner he used and what the ratio was? Much MUCH appreciated!!! Any extra advice on doing this? 10-15 minutes between coats? Anything else you could share? Thanks Thomas!!! :)
@@jasonenz4238 this is an old reply I know. Majic makes a specific reducer for their alkyd enamel, and a hardener as well. Majic paint itself is inferior to Rustoleum but their reducer/ hardener is compatible with Rustoleum and makes a very good combination
I’ve been watching your videos for a while , before you started spraying what did you mix your base coat with ? Mineral spirits and what’s paint ration did you go with , thank you !
The first new vehicle I ever purchased was a 93 Chevy S10 in Dove Grey aka Nardo Grey. Back then it was a very unique and very rare color and got compliments everywhere I went. People couldnt believe it was factory paint, and asked where I got the paintwork done. The Rustoleum smoke grey looks just as good. Thanks for this video, I now plan to paint my 07 Grand Marquis the same way with all of the chrome and trim in gloss black.
I just subscribed to your channel ... I just wanna say that you have really given me some good tips on painting I'm getting ready for my first paint job so hopefully with the things you have shared in your videos I'll be able to do a fairly decent job..thanks so much keep up the good work
@GTsPerformance did you use a hardener? I live in Florida I’ve seen you and a few other people just use acetone, wanted to know how is the drying process as I want to put a clear over y rus o leum when I paint it next month
1 question.. y do u spray in sections.. lol .. or ur just starting to paint.. 8:00 🕗 of video u said u had just sprayed da light housing n 1/4 panel.. it looks nice n wet.. that’s all all da paint job should look.. so don’t spray in sections so u won’t get any dry spots or dry sections..
Actually, if you go from front to back, you miss the detail! You may think you're getting an even coat over everything but you still have to sand and polish Regardless!! So it doesn't matter how you spray.
Cant seem to find this info anywhere ... How long did you wait to re-coat? I'm gonna use the Majic Catalyst Hardener. This paint says to wait 24 hours to re-coat but, I'm sure that's specifically if you're brushing or rolling it on. Did you just wait for the paint to flash and re-coat?
Probably one of the better youtube videos ive seen on how to Rusto spray paint....the car looks Great! I roller brush painted my foxbody in Battleship gray Rustoleum Topside Marine paint mixed 3:1 with Flood brand Penetrol. The paint still shines after sitting on my driveway for 6 months now.
That's wassup! 👌 although it's a cheap paint, I'm expecting it to last a while. I'm still treating it as any other car paint. Buffing and waxing from time to time.
Incognito 86 Yea, that's for sure! But maybe on another vehicle. Like I said, I'd have to buy a new trunk and rear bumper, and if I did that.. I would've wanted to put nice paint. And those aren't cheap! So if I did all that, I'd be throwing over a grand on it and personally, I don't think the car is worth putting that much into it. I'm uploading a video later today,.. you'll see what $50 can do! (And I'm not even done yet)
I'm thinking about this sort of paint job for my S10. Is there a reason you don't use hardener? I've noticed the rattle can job on my Suburban has remained soft almost a year later. Others here on RU-vid swear by adding a hardener. I've never had a spray gun, always used spay cans with mixed results.
Ok. Need some advice painting from you guys that have more experience. Im trying to repaint a honda bumper with OEM paint and clear. Can i scuff it and shoot duplicolor paint shop silver over it without a problem or should I prime it first? Can I use the duplicolor paint shop primer or do I need a different primer? Any advice would be appreciated.
What primer you would use on bright silver metallic I put light gray primer and painted it with the paint code but I should of painted the whole vehicle because where I painted at looks darker than what the factory color looks after I painted it and put clearcoat. I used 2k primer and activator but the activator ran out so I used regular light gray primer over my truck. Maybe I didn't put enough coats of clearcoat on. I didn't paint the top part of my truck. I should of just painted the whole vehicle with the paint so so all the truck looks the same color it would of turned out better. Think am gonna just go and paint the top and other doors on the right side to match up.
@@GTsPerformance I came back to this video as reference to the mix ratio. No new project, videos, everything good? You might drop short, or video. Price went up on more of Autobaun products, bet your to blame for some of that.... Ha ha. Good Advertiser for their products.
Something came up and needed the garage space. I knew it would take a while, but not sure how long, so I built a new garage.. sorta. New upcoming videos will start here at the GT's Performance version 3.0 😅 I'll make an update pretty soon. I still need a few more things before I can start on another project
what the smallest air compressor i can get away with for diy painting like this? I have a 300zx im fixing and i wont be able to afford a paint job, I wanna do it myself
I paint a car with the same paint but .. some spots are gloss and other are like satin .. i guess it was a problem with the paint .. (to thick) But i can paint again without sanding or i have to sand everything again to paint
Yea, the paint is thick and covers well on the first pass. Usually, with 3 or 4 coats of paint is good for a nice wet sand and buff, and still have enough paint for a second buff later on.
Paint cars and do resto jobs and i gotta say good great job all that matters at the end of the day is the finished result and a purple harbor freight gun awsome 👍just subscribed to your channel
Yea, I feel ya! I came across 12 quarts of rustoleum at $1 each. Found them on clearance. But for a car like this, I could spray it 3 -4 times. I am thinking of a respray as soon I can get my garage in order.
I've only primed a 95 Honda accord with six cans but its a lot easier to spray it with a gun as I see. Good stuff keep up them videos bro , I'm learning
Hey bro congrats on your ch!!!! I just subscribed awesome videos and very detailed. I had a question i dont know much about compressors, thinking of buying one to do the Rustoleum paint job what size compressor did you used to spray? 3gl, 6gl, 20gl????
Thanks! And I appreciate the sub 👍 I'm using a 21 gallon air compressor from Harbor freight. I think anything smaller than that you will dry out your air tank before you finish painting a fender
Just my opinion, but it'd look bad ass if you used some clear and mixed in a white ghost Pearl In and sprayed over that grey. Get like a nardo grey Pearl look. White ghost Pearl is cheap.one bag should do the job!
I'm familiar with Nardo Gray, but I have no idea what a pearl white over gray would look like (at least in person). I can get the pearl pigment from PPG Paints, but the reason I didn't go with a full paintjob was cuz this car needs a lot of bodywork, and it'd be too expensive for what the car is worth. My conscience wouldn't let me spray beautiful paint over bent or warped panels
@@GTsPerformance ghost Pearl can be bought from paintwithpearls.com for cheap. Its pretty much translucent but catches the light. O thought the made that Rust-Oleum in a clear as well so it wouldn't be high dollar, no biggie it was just a suggestion.
This is my car. It has been over 2 years since this paintjob and psint has held up great! Check out my most recent videos, I am in the process of choosing a color to respray this same car again. 👍
Do you know how i can do this color with rustoleum? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-iMGICG2wiy8.html I guess is silver with a lil ligth blue B73m .. honda civic 98 4 doors
Its $100. Then I'd still have to buy a secondary color for the hood & roof! And a third color for the wheels.. it all adds up. Right now I'm still close to $50
You do really nice work. Was that a Harbor Freight gun? I'm in the market for a new compressor. What size and brand were you using? Thanks for taking the time to post.
Thank You! And yes, it was a harbor freight gun. It has a 1.4 spray tip, very good for rustoleum since the paint is thick. And it's very easy to use👌 As for my compressor, I'm using a 21 gal. From harbor freight also. It's been very good to me! I've had it for several years and painted many vehicles and small projects, and it's still going hard. It turns on about 3 or 4 times to do a full pass around an entire car so, I wouldnt use anything under 20 gallons.
