Just my opinion... you should recut the screen with a little more overhang around the turbo opening. I feel like the only thing holding the screen is the silicone. If you made it with more overhang the clamp could actually grab it and you wouldn't have to worry about it getting sucked in. I honestly thought it was going to get sucked in!

That screen is the best thing and has very little restriction but no off roading, i actually used a window screen for my turbo hatch and it worked great

I actually think a filter is the less restrictive option, just because it increases the surface area through which air can be pulled in. The screen just restricts the turbo inlet without changing it's size. But anyhow Rob, you did a fantastic job on this as always!

Layer the mesh up a few times and alternate the direction of the mesh. It will add hugely to the strength and filtering while not really sacrificing any air flow. If something decent hits that filter it could get sucked into the turbo!

My experience with turbos if you daily them you want a full on filter but if it's a weekend Warrior you should be fine with the screen as long as it doesn't get sucked in...keep up the awesome videos man

Last comment I swear, my 1979 NA Datsun with an L28 made 130 hp to the rear. With the lightweight chassis it was amazing to drive. I think you should start doing some weight reduction and see how that 140 hp feels. It’s amazing what some weight saving can do.

I would make a new screen with a bigger circle and make the blue fitting like 2 inches thick so the screen comes down the side more and the fitting covers more and is more secure. You don’t want the turbo to suck the screen in. But looks good!

I love that your progressing. Went from wish videos on one car to having the eg honda project on top of your brz with some 240 videos on the side. Have a nice one bay garage. You dont need huge shops and 11 cars an no one ever finishes half of them but you got the honda and didnt back down from a challenge. Spa turbo has a tiny turbo filter, they are a Brazilian company but I think they export to the us

You should get some panty hose to layer over the screen so dust cant get in there, but It still allows for plenty of air flow. That's what I did with my turbo set up.

I would cut that circle longer so it contacts the clamp more. You could also apply some kind of high temp adhesive to bond it to the silicon joiner. Maybe could also use a 90 degree pipe and try to bring a filter into the bumper.

I would cut a new mesh for that dude. It needs more overlap to stop it being sacked into the turbo. You've got the silicone pipe to cover it so it doesn't need to look fantastic. If that sucks into the turbo you've got a whole world of problems! The pipe clip needs to grip tight onto the mesh. Either a bigger mesh or work some pipe through the front bumper for a "forced air induction" Plus an induction kit adds to the tuned sound. Lots of modders don't like that sound, but I love it!! I'm committed!! ✌

The problem with those is your turbo takes in a lot of air under boost. You’ll be sucking in small rocks and twigs and stuff. If you drive in winter, that screen is going to be destroyed and so is your turbo. If you drive in perfect conditions it might be fine, but I would never risk that. I highly suggest installing that filter. That screen is not going to prevent smaller bits from entering your turbo and over time it’ll start to wear.

Dust is a engine killer! Also dirty water can still get in. Can you fit a 90% coupling with a filter stait up ? Just a thought.

Not sure if you thought of this or not but, why didn't you just get some metal pipe the same size as the turbo and the filter and run it in between where the turbo is so that the filter sits up higher or in a place where there is room to fit it.

Robbie! You need to asd HPS Silicone hoses! It loosk great and it helps keep everything cool

Mine actually enhances the sound of the turbo spool. Makes a whistling noise as the turbo draws air through it

In the engine bay scene the motor moves a lot and as I can see you're running the stock mounts, would recommend you upgrade your engine mounts and this is something you also dont want to cheap out on. Some good hassports would do you good for your build

After like a month see how much it protected the turbo see if there’s any damage 😵

I think you should always use the blue thing as like a buffer so the edge of the clamp doesn't wear through the screen

I've got a 4g93 stock daily drive and have the same whp as yours....and that is a lot of fun in a 950kg chassis.

Is the 1.3hp gain over a filter really worth getting dirt in the motor?

Why does everyone thinks it's the big stuff that destroys turbos? Try to remember that comp wheels can spin up to 200,000rpm so any dust will disintegrate them.

I had a very similar setup in my 93 civic. I used the same filter you have sitting in the cabinet. All I did was bash the fuck out of it until it went on. It didn't look pretty but neither did the car. I was running 8 pounds with no tune on a z6. Also the turbo rattled itself off the manifold...I found a couple of the bolts tho. That thing was fun. Lol

I have seen guys run tests with and without filters and the HP changebis very minimal so it should not be restricted

Nice videos man... I recently subscribed to get some info on eg hatchbacks because i want to get one as my daily. Right now as my project car i have a 1990 GT Foxbody 5.0 5 speeds. Its mostly stock and taken care of very well. I have it stored away for now until i can have some time and money to mod it. Anyway long story short i have 2 V8s. My daily is a V8 and my project car is a V8 so i need a 4 banger fot a daily. Anyway nice videos and keep them coming and also its pretty cool you have a friend to help you out and yaop both have fun. He seems pretty cool.

Why not use a coupling and some intake piping to make room for the filter ?

Uhhh the radiator fan doesn't work.... That's a problem for air conditioning, but maybe it isn't super important for performance other than that.

Be careful, It may get sucked in. I would of pushed it all the way back then folded over the coupler then the clamp.
