Our guest for that webinar was Jean Claude Michelou, a gems and jewelry resource strategist with more than 40 years of experience in the gem industry.
Jean Claude Michelou is the founder and Editor-in-Chief of the International Publication, InColor magazine and has served 8 years as Vice president of his 18 consecutive years on the Board of Director of the International Colored Gemstone Association , ICA.
Founder and partner of Imperial Colors, he has been active in Emerald trading, mining, cutting and export since his debut in Colombia in 1977.
More recently he has been active as a consultant for the World Bank, USAID, Government authorities and mining agencies as well as Senior Technical Advisor for the UNICRI (UN) within the project “Illicit Trafficking of Precious Metals and Traceability and Ethical Origins of Colored Gemstones”. He has worked in different countries such as Afghanistan, Pakistan and Nigeria on the business development, infrastructures and policies from mine to market for the gem sector.
Jean Claude sits on the Board of Advisors of the Gemstones and Sustainable Development Knowledge Hub .
As a member of the RJC Standard committee , he is now part of the Task force for the implementation of the related colored gemstone Standards and practice.
Jean Claude Michelou provided me a lot of support since 2005 either with advices or with contacts in the field, so it will be a true pleasure to welcome him.
During that webinar we talked about different aspects of the gem industry (from mining, trading, to treatments and lab reports) that changed from Jean Claude's early days in Colombia to nowadays.
