I remember asking Kamiya about Viewtiful Joe 10 years ago at gamescom and was pleasently surprised when he told me that he always had a story for the third game in mind he wanted to create. Hope he can fulfill that wish someday. Though I will be looking forward to whatever he creates next. My favorite game director next to Mikami and Fujiwara. Absolute legend.
I was aware that Ikumi was Bayonetta artist, but I didn't knew that she designed THAT much amount of concept arts. Quite insane think now that game without her.
@@isamuominae The Eyes of Bayonetta (book & documentary on RU-vid) has her and her works. A lot of environment concepts, plus accessories, characters & even the main Bayonetta logo is designed by Ikumi.
Thanks for watching! Hopefully in the future we will bring more developers and creatives on for some long form content if the videos continue to do well :)
I'm one of those 8 people that played and loved Viewtiful Joe so much, I would rally the other 7 and be behind Kamiya all the way! Thank you so much for these wonderful videos, it's always lovely to see more behind the people and inspirations for this wonderful industry.
I'm also one of those 8 people, got the game day one, nobody else cared for it when I played it back then cuz everybody had either ps2 or xbox 😂 That's 2 of us, where are the other 6 c'mon people!!
Hello threre, fellow Viewtiful Joe enjoyers. i'm glad to know we still exist. I actually consider VJ 1 to be Kamiya's magnum opus. Unique art style, addictive and innovative gameplay and of course ball busting hard. Getting good at that game is so rewarding. I also have some very fond memories of watching the anime back in the day, good times.
I've been waiting for Okami's sequel since 2006, and I was one of the people who expressed a desire to see this game happen in Capcom's survey. I hope the day comes.
"It's only because 8 people have played Viewtiful Joe that people aren't going wild." How dare you, Kamiya! CAPCOM! RE-RELEASE VIEWTIFUL JOE ALREADY SO MORE THAN _8_ PEOPLE CAN PLAY IT! He's right about Viewtiful Joe not appearing in polls. What the hell, Capcom!? This was a delightful and humorous interview. Loved the credits at the end.
Thank you for this interview. I love the works of Kamiya. From Resident Evil , Okami, Beautifful Joe, DMC. I never thought that the development of Okami was so painful and those stories make us to think about, how even great directors also have this moments of self doubt that , it seems, we all share in this creative work. Thank you very much, and I hope Kamiya can get to work on the Okami Sequel. I played the DS sequel and it was very good, but I want one directe by him!
Seeing Okami 2 get referenced after all these years has filled me with so much hope. I want nothing more than for this game to happen before I die, it changed my life and I'll fall to the ground and cry tears of joy if I hear it will happen!! PLEASE!!!
Their memories and experiences from the industry are truly amazing to hear. With all those past experiences, I believe Ikumi directing the KEMURI game will definitely lead to a very positive outcome 😊. I also hope to see Hideki directing some new games in the future 😉. The old clips of Kamiya and Ikumi placed beside them in the video were really cool 😄
This was very well done! We do hope more titles from the past come from Kamiya-san. It is now time for Unseen to shine, good luck to you all, we will be anticipating your future games
This interview was so wholesome, I loved it. Also, I'm one of those 8 people that played Viewtful Joe back in the day and would love to play another game in the series, but I can completely understand why Capcom won't make it, with the end of the anime I doubt there are many people that even know what a "Viewtful Joe" is (and the fact that it wasn't even that popular back then), so it's upsetting but understandable, as for an Okami sequel, I think Capcom would be mad not to do it eventually, the game has a pretty big cult following, and I would love to play it if it ever end up happening. Lastly I'm pretty hyped about Kemuri, it looks awesome, and I can't wait to see more about it. Wish you both the best and many gaming hits in your future.
Truly wonderful and inspiring as always. Looking forward for more amazing creations. Keep doing what makes you happy and also give you energy. This will be good!
5:44 "if you'll bring it up so often, you better believe I will make another game" 😂😂. He doesn't even bring up DMC2. It's sorta funny for players to willfully ignore that, but it's a crucial part of DMC's history that cannot be ignored. 16:50 Kamiya on sending a response to Capcom's survey 😂😂. 18:57 wow, they used to be younger. I'm so used to the appearance from the past 5 years. 23:46 I'd give a kidney to see Fumito Ueda talk at length with a fellow developer like this, even if various things were heavily censored. But just once, and it's the only publicly accessible talk for +10 years. My favorite part was the entire section on the Capcom Survey. It's awesome seeing developers interact with things players also interact with.
Amazing interview! So refreshing seeing such candidness from two legends. Game development is such a hard job but its amazing to see what drive people to keep creating these works of art.
If only Kamiya san can work on Devil may cry and Okami again, that would be Capcom best move considering the survey, but one can only dream. The man has such unique quirks in his games, that makes them timeless 😊
Huge Bayonetta fan here, and I have seen the concept art and I remember Ikumi’s very well! While sales are super important for next projects, I value quality over quantity that’s what makes the games Kamiya has written and directed my favourites, I like Okami a lot as well. A little sad that he left Platinum where Bayonetta was developed, so that leaves me thinking, there might not be another one, or maybe there might be more but not the same without Kamiya.
Thanks for the video! It's cute and and inspiring at the same time. Cant wait to play Kemuri and new game developed by Kamiya-san (I hope he is planning something;))
I'm pretty sure that incredible amount of people including me are desperately waiting for Kamiya san's new game, just as I'm still waiting for Half Life 3 all these years...
Yeah Hagiwara isn’t doing us any favors not releasing anymore in the Bastards series but I do hope is alive and well. Also, Kemuri can’t come soon enough. My dream?! To be able to one day sit at the same table with you guys and talk about the success of games. 😊
My heart skips a beat whenever you two mention Ōkami. We need it back and we need you to work on it. I completed the Capcom survey and made it perfectly clear that we need this to happen. In today's gaming landscape, with by-the-numbers shooters and live-service atrocities, Ōkami would stand out so much. Thank you for your work (on Ōkami and all other games) and this video. I hope you get to work on Ōkami again and we get to experience this perfection once again.
This was a great video series with two former colleagues just reminiscing on old times. I hope Kamiya-san can find work and no longer be unemployed cause his pedigree speaks for itself. Once again, shout out to the UNSEEN crew who helped put these videos together. I'd love to see another one of these with Shinji Mikami one day in the future.
I assume neither of them can admit to it, but the project that they "can't get too deep into" must be Scalebound. They know we wanted to hear about that one LOL
Just so you know Mister Kamiya Viewtiful Joe was actually my number 1 character when I voted for the survey. I grew watching the anime and was really happy when I discovered it was also a game. And an amazing one. I always wondered if Blue Jr would be added in a third game. If it would allow us to play 3 characters now, similar to how 2 had joe and silvia and if you would include modern cinema jokes/references in the game. Like how in the first one the last level is a full on star wars homage and if we would get dante back with Joe. The red duo. Anyway, thank you for creating viewtiful joe. HENSHIN A GOGO BABY!
This has been incredible to watch and learn about the relation between Kamiya and Nakamura. Hope to see more from him, and of course more from the UNSEEN team :)
@@UNSEENTOKYO yeah i actually hit the credits a few minutes after i posted this lol. Looking forward to whatever vids come next, and of course the new game 😊
I wish God Hand, the Viewtiful Joe games, and Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance gets remastered and ported to modern platforms too like Okami. I want to play them at home or on the go on my Nintendo Switch.
One of my dream would be a game developped by Shinji Mikami, Hideki Kamiya and Hideaki Itsuno. The greatest character action game. I think DMC V is the greatest now, and yet not perfect. Hell, bring in Ikumi for the art, and why not Shoji Meguro for the OST. Would be my dream team.
Kamiya san had the idea to direct Devil May Cry 0 with Dante & Vergil‘s father the Legendary Dark Knight himself Sparda as the main character Capcom hire him to make it happen !!!
I don't care if he goes to Konami and reboots Gradius or goes to Capcom and makes Viewtiful Joe 3. I'll be there! Honestly haven't disliked any of Kamiya's games outside of Wonderfu 101 and even that game was unlike anything else and still interesting to play.
I always found Viewtiful Joe too difficult to be any good at it, but I did buy and play them all anyway, even though I was terrible and could not beat them! I will always remain hopeful for an Okami 2, and I think it would do very well. Sometimes you have creative works like the movie Office Space that make almost no money on their debut, but over time, as more and more people discover it, it develops cultural importance and a huge devout fanbase over many years. It becomes an important artifact. I suspect Okami is this way and a sequel announcement would be very exciting. The only danger with this kind of sequel is that fan expectations can be impossibly high!
