My dad lived on the same street as Milat during these murders. He was unaware of how close they were until a few years back when we watched a documentary on Milat.
*Hey all, while this series isn't ENTIRELY new, it has allowed me to expand to cover all sorts of murderers instead of just serial killers. I think it's time to grow for the sake of entertaining and educating you all. Serial Killer Files just got upgraded. That's all. Thanks for watching and I hope you enjoyed!*
I'm noticing a lot of the murderers featured on this channel had been abused as children. It kind of makes me interested in how human personality develops
I read somewhere that the human conscience is formed in the first 36 months of life. Because babies are like little sponges, absorbing everything that they see and hear, it makes sense to me that a child who has been physically abused and shouted at a lot will come to believe that is "normal," that must be how everyone's home is. The kids start hitting other kids, nobody wants to play with the mean kid, and he is shunned. This subject would make a fascinating study, if one could observe a group of kids at different ages, the same kids I mean, and see how the "bad" kids actually turn out.
It's not always the case. I don't know why some people turn out to accept abuse because they were abused, or instead become abusers, or choose to get help and say I don't deserve this and others don't deserve this. I think deep inside we know it's not right but it gets buried by years of experience.
Gabriel Richey Jeffrey dahmer wasn’t abused. Sorry it’s quite judgemental how people assume all abused children ended up being killers and violent people where we shouldn’t be painting everything with the same brush. I know couple friends in my life who were exposed to abuse and not much affection who ended up being the most hardworking and less confronting people I know without a violent streak on them. Yes it affects different people but not all.
I remember omce when i was little, Ivan Millat's two brothers came over too my house to do work in the backyard. My dad had to pay them double just to get them two leave because my mum had the worst feeling when they came over
This guy is such a great RU-vidr. The other day I was devastated from a family tragedy, and none of my "friends" were there for me, so I tried talking to Rob on snapchat and asked if he could talk. He actually answered and talked to me for a little bit! Made my day :) Thanks again, Rob.
wow that makes me beyond happy and very proud to support someone that actually truly cares for his audience. Sorry for your sadness. hope it gets better
+Rob Dyke I am always more and more impressed by your talent in storytelling and professionalism. You remain detached from the whole story yet you are able to engage us through the whole video where brutal actions take place. Well done! I'm such a big fan even though as I write I'm scared to death XD
My dad believes he nearly became a victim of Milat when he was at a rest stop coming back from Melbourne, however he said that there was 2 of them and a lot of people are now believing that one of his brothers was an accomplice. He said the brother came over while Ivan waited behind their car to ask for a cigarette lighter, my dad said he only slightly opened the window and kept the doors locked, and he believed that saved his life. I don't know if what he says is true or not, but it is a scary thought, because if it was, I may have never known my dad.
I believe you. My dad also had an encounter whilst in the military and he was travelling from Victoria up to NSW but it's not ever mentioned he came down this way.
I get cold shivers when I drive past the forest where Ivan milat killed the hitch hikers But when I drive past the prison I’m like “and dats what u get *Mr serial Killer*
@@djwrox94 Feel bad for a heartless man that Killed 7 Hitchhikers, Feel bad for a monster who didint think lives of those young pepole, FEEL BAD FOR A MAN WHO DIDINT SPARE MERCY FOR THOSE WHO WERE JUST TRYING TO LIVE THEIR ORDANARY LIFES?
Great episode, but being an Australian myself, since that you have covered Ivan Milat's case, you must now cover the Port Arthur Massacre now, it's only suitable. For those unaware, the Port Arthur Massacre is the case that banned the use and ownership of automatic firearms in Australia and also known as one of the worst shootings to ever happen in both Australia and the world.
+Bodacious Will We can still own firearms but you have to have a background check, do a course in how to handle and store a firearm. We cant own any full or semi automatic firearms. Oh and you have to have a reason for owning a firearm
+Hakara Mizu You're half correct. We can own semi automatic firearms. In NSW where I live, I own Semi automatic Handguns for target shooting. I also Semi automatic shotguns for clay target shooting. You can own semi automatic centre fire rifles for vermin control if you own a pest control business. You can also own semi automatic rim fire rifles and shotguns for vermin control if you are a primary producer. There is also a firearm collectors licence which you can own various semi automatic weapons with.
I know we can still own guns, I was pointing out the fact that it was the case that made our Prime Minister apply gun laws for the first time as well as it being the most deadly single man gun massacre ever
Rob, I honestly love your channel. I remember watching every single video when I first discovered it, in only a day. I am always looking forward to your uploads, since your channels is on my top 5 favorite channels on RU-vid, along with your vlogs. Please, never stop making videos.
Actually, the main influence of Wolf Creek is Bradley Murdoch, he committed similar murder in the Northern Territory. My husband and I know the people who had to hide the survivor, Joanne Lees, the owner of Barrow Creek Roadhouse was the bloke who assisted and housed her while she had to remain in Alice Springs. Here's a link www.outback-australia-travel-secrets.com/wolf_creek_true_story.html - of course Ivan Milat also had influence in the making of Wolf Creek too.
"Murdoch's trial was still under way at the time of the film's initial release in Australia in 2005. As the film was marketed as being "based on true events", the Northern Territory court placed an injunction on the film's release within the territory in the belief that it could influence the outcome of the proceedings. However, many are misled into thinking that the entire movie is based on a true story, when it only had many influences from other murders around Australia, like the Ivan Milat backpacker murders as well as the Falconio murder case." - Wikipedia
These FUCKING Movies Were Trash. These Abortions Were Annoying As Fuck. The Girl That Shot Him I The First One could have finishes him off and not make people waste time watching that shit.
I swear this is why I hate the justice system, they don't let these people be rehabilitated, let them have a COMFORTABLE lifestyle, or treat them like HUMANS
@@scarlet_soul4118 im sorry but that's why you hate the justice system? Bc they don't make them comfortable or treat them like humans? I mean The man killed multiple innocent people and you think he should be allowed to have a comfortable life? My goodness. 🤦♀️ He was literally a serial murderer, took the lives of many innocent people and ruined their families lives. I don't think people who do that even deserve to be treated as human tbh. He honestly deserves to rot.
Ivan's killings happened 30 minutes from my home. My parent's knew Ivan, hell I even meet him when I was a baby. He made him self out to be so well rounded and an all round nice guy.
My father when he was an apprentice worked with one of the milat brothers, he told me how (one of the brother) use to stomp of flowers and say 'I like stepping on flowers because they die"
Finally some sane person who seems to realize certain traits are GENETIC and INHERITED and not just a result of 'bad childhood' or 'bad owner' in the case of pets, mostly dogs. Thank you!
his nephew matt milat murdered one of his closest friends with an axe in the state forest in 2012. he idolised his uncle and even changed his original last name to milat. defo a crazy family
@@thomasbarker8214 It's very loosely based on the Milat murders and the Bradley John Murdoch case. Being an Australian film, they couldn't do an actual story based directly on either case due to severe lack of a First Amendment in British Colonies.
Not devout the bible does not condem birth control.. Only the Pope . Catholicism is not a Christian religion it is a roman religion posing as Christianity
@@ishenicole9987 Catholicism is a kind of Christianity, one of the first kinds, in fact. Don't bother to try to divorce yourself from it because you're embarrassed by it, most kinds of Christianity are embarrassing anyway.
I see you are not a reader of history... Catholicism is a made up religion.. It was the Emperor Constantine who christainized the Roman pagan political religion of Rome.... How can Catholicism be a Christian religion? Have you not read how the Catholics Church massacred hundreds of millions of innocent people Jews Christians Muslims perished under Rome across the world? They were tortured flayed burned crusified if anyone dared to criticise the church or would not convert to Catholicism or read or owned a Bible Why do you think who is behind bibical editing, interpretations of the bible? The church removed Gods name which was present 7000 times.. Are you aware worlds monachies, leaders are owned controlled educated trained by the Jesuits of Rome? Did you know that every part of the world are Roman provinces? If I were you read history The he reason Constantine Christianized the Roman political pagan religion of Rome was to control the masses... Catholics have not bothered to reaserch their own religion and the gruesome atrocities of the church past and present.. Did you know that the church Bishops approved of the second world War The rawandian genocides the massacres of the Hugnouts prodestants Christians Jews? The pope thinks he is God You like millions are decieved Do you know that the church goes against the teachings of the scriptures mixes Bible truth with their own teachings and doctrines and traditions... The vatican is a political religion not Christian.. You have so much to learn So how can you say this is a sort of Christianity? Not one of the first kinds.. It's a pagan roman political religion masquerading as Christianity
My grandparents live near there, and are close friends with his brother, whose name I forget at this moment in time. But whenever they talk, the brother brings up that he still doesn't believe Ivan was guilty. Him and the rest of his family are still in denial. It's crazy.
When Milat's nephew got done for killing his friend he said, "You know my family, you know the last name Milat. I did what THEY do." THEY.... does nobody else notice this.
@@jessieb9384 that's what they all probably thought tbh. Everyone thinks they have enough common sense and all until things go down and they get trapped.
The girl who changed her story about being raped must have felt so guilty because if she would have just stuck to her story, he would have been put away before he killed all of those other people..
Carol probably but she was probably victim blamed into changing her story. That's the only way I could think of being why she would even change her story... Most victims don't go after their assaulters because of the issues with the judicial system and afraid of being blamed for the assault. It's easier to just try and forget and court proceedings are exhausting and traumatizing. This gonna sound awful to but if there wasn't previous assaults before her she probably felt she wasn't going to be believed.
The justice system for rape victim is shit now in 2017, so imagine what it was like back then. He would have been out in a couple of years and just continues where he left off.
If this interested you check out the movie Wolf Creek. It's based on Ivan. I thought it was a pretty good movie.. It's like if Crocodile Dundee was a murderer/torturer.
+Exhumed17 I thought it was way better than your standard serial killer movie. It's so non-Hollywood. No happy endings on the Outback, kids. Just Mick.
This is horrifying. Not only that, but the fact that his nephew killed in THE SAME SPOT where he had killed his victims years ago...that is something I cannot even begin to describe. Truly the family from Hell.
Rob, as an Aussie.... and someone whom has been to Maitland Gaol (Ivan was almost killed with shards of glass in his food and he also peed on people, which lead into his bars (the top) of his door sealed.) also, I must say that it is Mill-at for his last name. Also its not Melburn, is pronounced mel-bin as if you want to put your friend Mel in a bin
I don’t understand how individuals can turn so evil from being abused. I’ve been abused since age 2, off and on, sexually, mentally, and physically, but I would never ever hurt any animals(most psychopaths and serial killers, abuse animals first), and I would never hurt another person.
i disagree with the idea that exposure to guns contributed to the criminal tendencies of the family. even the facts of this case show most attacks were done with a knife. don't jump on the "guns r' bad" bandwagon just because it's pc.
I own a number of guns. The children were allowed to play with air rifles while they were taught that physical abuse was okay. That is a recipe for disaster. And Ivan often shot victims. Sometimes several times in the head. They'd be dead and he would just keep shooting. I am not at all any part of the "ban guns / guns are bad" bandwagon.
I like this video(pilot episode? first show?) and how you psychologically pin pointed why Ivan did everything he did with the reasons behind it. This was interesting and I have a feeling that this will become my favorite series as more come.
Ivan was renowned through the Australian prison system for extreme physical strength. He is, apparently, extremely physically strong indeed. Ivan is also renowned for self-mutilation over the years, in protest against not being able to have his case and his conviction reviewed in an appeal, as he still claims his own innocence. The trial was very much torn between the possibility of it having been one of his brothers who actually committed the murders.
I find it hilarious how riled up you are over this. Like really, what kind of loner would have anything better to do with their life than to conjure up a fairly racist rant with a bunch of stupid points over a harmless comment that post in good intention (from nearly a year ago) Like I really can't tell if you're that stupid or just a troll. you're doing a good work at it mate lol
Vitaly is a troll, he's all over these comments. Just trying to get a reaction because he has no other form of pleasure or validation in his pathetic, meaningless life.
My brother's name is Ivan Robert... the last names are different, but I did an audio double take there for a moment. Luckily, my Ivan is a brilliant artist not a killer.
old tale of the ivan milat, a friend of mine cousin's dated the crazy nephew of him ( whos always in jail , here Australia for murdering his "mate" at the same area where his uncle killed the backpackers ) . he said the hole side of the milat family are a bit crazy . Australia mate 👍
My family and I used to go for bushwalks through Belangelo State Forest. We were actually walking in the forest during the time when Ivan Milat was murdering hitchhikers. On one particular day two of my brothers (I'm one of 12 siblings) discovered a backpack laying at the edge of the trail we were walking on, and decided to take it home in order to patch up their own backpacks. About a month or two later, the first reports came on the news about the Belangelo murders, and my brothers, remembering the backpack, decided to hand it in to police as evidence. It still creeps me the hell out thinking of the poor person that backpack belonged to, and moreso, how close we may have been to becoming his victims. We were frequent walkers there and Ivan knew the area back to front, so I'm sure he knew we were there. I think our saving grace was the fact we were in a large group and would have been too hard to handle. Further, one of my brothers works as a guard at the supermax prison where Milat is being kept in solitary confinement. Here are some other interesting (disturbing) facts. Ivan Milat used to hunt wild pigs, but apparently upped it to humans as they proved more of a challenge and thrill. Some of the hitchikers (I'm not sure if all) had been drugged with tea before being taken further into the forest where he released them - giving them a head start before hunting them down.
+Megan Christine anyone and everyone that does not live in Australia always gets city names and names in general wrong. Maybe that's why he killed 7 people, they couldn't say his name right haha

Ninjamammoth It's not an Australian word. It comes from the name of the prime minister of Great Britian at the time ( 1837 ) & I think it is actually a Scottish surname, so we Aussies had very little say in it
+Lewis JH Absolutely. Ivan Milat was the inspiration for the character Mick, and the movie Wolf Creek. I remember watching Wolf Creek with my boyfriend, and commenting halfway through, "This is totally based on Ivan Milat, I'll bet!" A quick check to the film's website confirmed it.
My mum was backpacking through THAT area WHILE HE WAS ACTIVE. So I could have never been born and it kinda scares me. Also Ivan died on my birthday last year.
+Cartch His Nephew, Matthew Milat was also convicted of murder. At 17 years old he and a friend who was 18, murdered someone on his 17th birthday. Pretty fucked up. So yeah, a heaps infamous name.
These videos are surely the best of their kind here on youtube. They are professional, educational and above all terribly entertaining. Rob team, you've earned my respect.
YES! finally I've been waiting on something about Ivan Milat. As a now graduated Australian Ciminology student, Milat has always been my favourite criminal to do research on.
i remember there was this girl in my class that got in alot of trouble because she was watching your videos on her laptop instead of taking notes. she looked the professor dead in the face and said "i'm checking to see if i show up in one of his videos"
I used to live near Belangalo State Park and I always got the shivers as we went past the entrance. It is a beautiful place if you can get past what happened there.
Im from Australia and Milat got charged with 7 murders of backpackers who were hitchhiking. He's responsible for more missing people who disappeared from 70's to the 90's.He was a truly evil man who recently died from cancer in prison.
Hey, would you ever consider narrating people's scary stories if it can be read in under 20min? Maybe as a weekend segment? Lots of creative people write short stories and i think you would even enjoy some of the well written ones?
It's rare as a fan of true crime that I watch something where I learn something new but this was full of interesting stuff I didn't know! Loving this series!
That NAME is well known in Australia (I'm Australian). I was a little kid when it was going on, but my parents vividly recall when it first appeared on the news. Absolutely sick-in-the-head, him and his family.
Not sure if anyone has already mentioned this, but technically the supermax where Milat is held is a separate prison within the grounds of Goulburn Correctional Centre. It's called the High Risk Management correctional Centre, formerly known as the High Risk Management Unit, or HRMU. The inmates call it the Harm U. Rob, please do an episode on the disappearance of Peter Falconio, in the Northern Territory, Australia. I think you'll find the story quite intriguing.
I have to say, I enjoy all videos that are uploaded on this channel. I think they are very interesting and you are so easy to listen to. I've seen a few other RU-vid videos that talk about murderers but none, I fell, are as good as yours.
