If you're looking to lighten your tool load, you need to check these out. These new Gen 3 M12 FUEL Hammer Drill and Impact Drivers deliver quite an impressive performance while still remaining very compact. Model 3404 is the Milwaukee M12 FUEL Hammer Drill Driver with 400 in-lbs or torque and 1,550 RPM max. The Model 3453 is the Milwaukee M12 FUEL 1/4" Hex Impact Driver with 4 power modes and 1,500 in-lbs of torque. That's 125 ft-lbs, and we verify this claim. You can get the 3404 for $149 (bare), and you can get the 3453 for $139 (bare). The best deal is to pick up the combo kit, model 3497-22, which includes the M12 FUEL Hammer Drill, Impact Driver, a XC 4.0 M12 battery, 2.0 M12 battery, and a charger for just $229. They are covered by a 5-year warranty.

I burnt up a whole set of Ryobi drills and impacts on a previous job. 5 tools in all On fire literally. Needed some tools to build a 10x12 shed and 2x8 pt platform for it. Grabbed the combo set you talked about at HD for $199, with a free High Output 2.5. I built the entire base on the 4.5, on the charge from the box. And then built the entire shed with the 2.0 and it’s charge from the box. I haven’t even touched the drill yet! At the end of the job, I got gifted a m18 surge 1/4 hex impact and new Xc 6.0 SMH 🎉 the Lord Provides! Got all that for $214! Haha God bless great video! I now know the true deal I got!

Checking in from mid Tn. I no longer do building and remodeling for a living. Im on rocking chair time these days.. I started buying the M12 Fuel tools a few years ago and I have been nothing but impressed. I will put them up against many 18/20 volt for power. Unless you are working your tools hard every day I cannot imagine that these M12 Fuel tools would not be enough. Plus if you look at everything that Milwaukee offers in that line you should not do without. Now with the new HP batteries you should be all set. Thanks again for another great video brother. I just bought the combo kit for $229, and Milwaukee is running a deal right now there they throw in an *additional* CP2.0 battery. So for $229, you get the 3404 hammer drill, 3453 impact driver, *two* CP2.0 batteries, one XC4.0 battery, a charger, and a case. Pretty incredible value. And how's the difference in quality? I'm a general contractor who also works on cars all the time. I have a small fleet of f150s of various ages that I work on myself. (I am actually rebuilding suspension in one this weekend and will start building a new tranny for another over the next week) I never owned snap ons and they'd always seemed ridiculously priced to me. I use dewalt 20v tools for all of my construction tools and we're talking about a lot of tools. Love them, wouldn't get anything else. I also have the big 20v impact wrench from dewalt for lug nuts and such. Then I have some 12v Makita specialty construction tools. The quality of those japanese tools is very high and they have an interesting selection. Now lastly, I have a huge selection of m12s for all of my automotive needs + plumbing tools (the m12 copper tube cutter and stapler are the best things since sliced bread). Now as to Milwaukee m18, I really just find it a little but overpriced and would recommend the DeWalts to anyone. But for the 12v stuff, Milwaukee definitely beats the competition!

Also Harbor Freight ICON tools and some older Pittsburghh Pro are my choice for sockets, hand ratchets and stuff. My oldest set of HF sockets (a 3 decker set with a couple hundred pieces) has lasted me a decade at this point and only a handful of sockets broke. So definitely don't be afraid of Harbor Freight, especially when it comes of their newer stuff. It's surprisingly high quality.

I have to be honest and I'm not a spokesperson for Milwaukee, in fact I don't own any Milwaukee power tools I think I have a couple of their hand tools like a jab saw that folds up and that might actually be it. But I feel like you kind of did a disservice to the drill when you were using the auger bit and maybe even a couple others by one handing it. I don't know if you were holding a camera which apparently I'm looking at it again now and you're not so I don't know why you were one handing it but because of the force of the drill the angle at which you were going into the wood and threw the wood kept changing in the process, which in my opinion definitely serves to see the drill bind up faster. I mean I feel like you can literally see your hand being Jarred from the torque being distributed to your hand as it's trying to drill through the wood which when your hand gets yanked the angle at which you're holding the drill changes dramatically dramatically increasing the chance of binding. Dramatically! Just my opinion probably or maybe it's physics. I don't know you'd have to ask a physicist or a tool expert.

The 2nd gen version of these are fantastic, these look to be minor upgrades, probably not worth upgrading from 2nd gen, but for anything older or a new buyer, highly recommended. Also, I don’t understand the people who complain about the handle size. I have smaller hands (wear a “large” glove, but can fit in a medium, a bit snugly), and I have no issue with the M12 handles. For people who wear a “small” glove, I suppose it could possibly be an issue.

Just a quick heads-up. the M12 drill appears to have enough torque to drive large wood bits, but the bits are binding because your wrist is twisting. I think if you were able to keep the drill centered (which admittedly is difficult), the drill would have gone straight through the block.

The 6.0 XC uses a 2 banks of Samsung 30Q cells. This gives it a continuous rating of 30A. The new HO most likely uses Samsung 25S cells, giving it a continuous rating of 50A. That should equate to a huge jumo in power for high demand tools, and a lot less cutting out of tools.

I'm just now watching this video, having bought this kit on "black Friday weekend" for $179. Already using daily (motorcycle mechanic) the 3/8 impact, 3/8 angle impact, and 3/8 long reach "torque" ratchet. It's the 5year warranty that attached me, having gotten burned by our Snap on dealer for $700, and 6 months later i paid $130 for the rebuild...?

The Hammer drill seems perfectly suited for an installation driver, all you could need. With those large hole hog type bits im not sure why they dont just make a set to attach to a Milwaukee mid torque imoact wrench Seems like a impact would be ideal for drilling thise large hole to stop kickback. @ Shop Tool Reviews Maybe you could recommend to Milwaukee thry try making a set of Augers that attach to a 3/8 & 1/2 anvil I bet it works, I donit with my impact driver and hex spade bits all the time

I'm sure what the spec's are on my 9yrold Ryobi P238 1/4Hex driver, but it's twice the size of the that little M12 Hex driver. That's crazy good power from such a small package.

Watched review, bought new m12 with 3 light, used for 1 day, returned and using old m12. It doesn't auto lock drill bits from other manufacturers in my case it was Dewalt drill bit, unfortunately I didn't test different bits from other brands. Secondly I was hoping to feel lighter weight in my hand, but I couldn't figure out until I placed it on the scale, it's only 50 grams lighter, and like ¼ inch shorter. Very disappointing. Went back to previous m12 and will wait who will actually bring better smaller driver. There are not thousands but I'm sure millions of people that don't need more power, but more compact, smooth, driver. Because everyone has powerful monster driver for big jobs anyway, but nothing for daily carry.

First, I'm sorry that you didn't have a good experience. Second, we agree, the sub-compact, compact, 12V, etc. tools don't need to have tons of torque. They should be agile and light in the hands. I do love the size and weight of these tools, but I also understand what you are saying...they're just not different enough from the old models to earn your purchase. We get that. Thanks for sharing with us.

My biggest issue with the Gen 2 isn't the size or power. Its the clutch. It doesn't have enough resistance. Everytime I go to use it, it switches modes. Or in the middle of drilling, it moves moves. It's super annoying.

Did they improve the clutch for the drill? The digital clutch would often be too strong for finishing or trim screws even on the lowest setting. I have to do a two step process to run down to get close to seating the fastener and pull the trigger again to get a better clutch reaction for small torque amounts.

The most I'd use is probably a hole saw or forstner. Will this be a good trade off or just stick with the atomics??

I'm curious how they stack up against the outgoing 2nd gen, since they have been marked down to make room for the 3rd. I don't necessarily need "all" the power, so if they're "close enough" I'll save a buck and get 2nd gen while they're still available.

The M12 Fuel Gen 3 vibrates a lot in the hand. You can feel it most definitely but it is the most powerful 12v impact on the market. However……… the M12 impact with a xc battery is heavier than the Dewalt 20v DCF840 paired with the powerstack. Dewalt makes the best feeling 20v hand tools when you talk about ergonomics, weight and size. It all depends on the user and application the user is the most important tool. I really wish more tests were done in the field to show where and when they shine the most.

@ZeGermanHam
@ZeGermanHam 2 года назад
There is no trigger delay on the Gen 3 M12 hammer drill. I own it and after three generations, it's now finally pretty much perfect for a 12V drill. The upgrade to a mechanical clutch is reason enough to upgrade from Gen 2.

I greatly enjoy your videos; you do a really good job of explaining and testing the tools. I have a couple of suggestions: 1. Nobody cares if the handle is wider at the bottom of the 12V impact driver. That's not worth your audience's time. 2. On your drill tests with the hammer drill, you are driving at an angle and that causes the drill bit to bind. It is harder to drill wood at an angle. Next time, make sure you are square to the board, and your drill bit probably won't bind. Once again, your video is excellent - great job!

Very impressive, finally can replace M18 with M12 for general use... M18 can now just be used for large holes or big projects with lots of holes. One nice thing to note is you can get a high output in M12 now (even the small 2ah!!). That would make it even more powerful.
