Sinus means cavity and Paranasal Sinuses are hollow cavities inside the skull bones lined by moist mucus membranes secreting mucus which drains in the nose cavities. So telling "Dr. I am having Sinus" is a wrong statement. Blockage of sinus opening connecting to nose cavity causes stagnancy and heaviness of head. Infection in these stagnant fluids by invading microbes produce pus and sinusitis. It produces fever, headache, facial pain and nose block. Allergy is an inflammation caused when allergens come in contact with nose mucus lining and is characterised by sneezing, itching eyes, nose and throat; runny nose, nose block and occasional headache. So it should not be confused with Sinusitis. Proper hygiene, hydration, good nutrition, rest, good sleep and routine exercise and prevent sinusitis.
