I think Dr Salam is rather innocent about history apart from by his own admission of lack of parliamentary aspirations and the much needed talents for politics. A cross section of people in general and intellectuals oppose the BJP for the simple reason that it does not subscribe to the core principles on which this country has to be governed and without which our going forward would not be easy. What sort of democracy it is when 20 crores Indians do not have a Representative either among parliamentarians or in the cabint?. India had always been a highly inequitable society with the majority of Hindus being denied basic human rights, the list of which is too lengthy to be quoted . What the BJP is attempting to do is perpetuation of brahminical values and that is the reason for the constant emphasis on the so-called great Indian culture.
