Pothichoru: Rice, curry and nostalgia packed in a banana leaf.
Typically, pothichoru is made with matta rice, thoran, mezhukkupuratti (spicy stir-fried vegetables), pickle, and chammanthi. In addition to omelettes, fish fry is sometimes served.
In Kerala, there is nothing more delectable than a banana leaf wrapped lunch...
It is a cherished tradition among Keralaites to wrap any food in banana leaves, the flavour of the wilted banana leaf greatly enhancing the taste of the food. There are many non-vegetarian Keralites who enjoy this meal. As the name pothichor suggests, it is a parcel/package or a wrapped meal, with the whole meal being wrapped up in banana leaves. The taste is delicious. Over the rice, you can add rasam or fish curry for gravy.
