A New Jersey couple has come forward after a dining experience at Maggiano’s Little Italy at the Pointe Orlando location. Dorothy Moody and her husband Colin O’Hanlon have accused the restaurant of practicing segregated seating.
Maybe some are "split" large parties, like in this case? Or some of them are people who requested the back? We don't like being in the front (due to cold winter or hot summer air, cigarette smoke/traffic fumes, etc), so we usually ASK to be seated in the back. I hope you wouldn't be offended to be seated near my family. 😬
@@commanderneyo7903 you can't argue with virtue signaling white women that wana be accepted. She thinks having a few black friends makes her relatable lol would probably call the cops if a black man was alone with her at a bus stop 🤣🤣
When I was a waiter 20 years ago we were told to pay attention to how people were seated, and not put too many people of the same race in one area. However I've seen it happen often.
@@D.v1dL33What? 😂😂 I’ve lived in the Bronx my entire life. When I was younger I worked at a bar/restaurant. No names being mentioned but I remember black people who worked there saying “ don’t sit any black people in my section “. Some would ask why right? Their response was “ Sometimes they’re just ghetto and none of them tip well “. This wasn’t something that came out of one servers mouth. It was many. Oh and again this was right in the middle of the Bronx. There’s nothing but minorities that live over this way. However there are always a lot of white people traveling that would come through on a daily basis.
Cause that's how they like until they need a new group to feel superior to. Can't wait till its just two of you left and you kill each other cause your hairs different colors 🤣
This wasnt racism. It was on a sunday and in the south church groups all band together to eat out and it just so happened to be at this Italian restaurant and wanted to be sat altogether.
Get all your facts before u accuse someone. I'm mean jeez she should be ashamed. These are peoples jobs and lively hood. Reasturant should sue her for liable not give her gift cards. Did she ask to be moved to test her theory?
@@commandotek It does seem that it was a simple mistake here but you need to also cut the lady some slack. If I was in her shoes, I might have jumped to the same conclusions. The problem is racism is normally hard to detect. Many times, people aren't explicitly prejudiced. For example, blacks are pulled over more frequently than other races. Are you saying that for each time, a black person should give the benefit of the doubt to the police officer? If so, then you can never accuse a police officer of racism because each one becomes an isolated incident. Do you see what I mean?
So let me get this straight, hypotheticaly - I & 6 of my friends happen to find out in a conversation that we all patronize the same business - a certain dry cleaning business in town. We all go for a clean and a press about one a week. During the conversation we happen to realize that everytime we pick up our clothes from the business, they're are on a hanger, but still dirty & wrinkled having never been cleaned nor pressed. Instead they are returned to us in the same condition we brought them. You, on the other hand - a complete stranger to us over hear our conco & realize that you also patronize the same business weekly, and because your clothes are always in pristine condition when you pick them up, your saying that - What we are saying is rubbish & that it doesn't happen to us or ANYONE ELSE, for that matter - because it never happens to you? Do you realize how absurd that sounds? Let's be clear - You WOULDN'T know if this restaurant did this. All you can speak to is your experience. And - your "privilege," considered, you wouldn't see it. In fact you'd be totally oblivious to it because you don't have to endure these things.
Been ushered the last table in the back near the rest room. Never went back and told everyone I knew. I guess the reasoning was 8 of us wanted to be that far back at 2 tables near the rest room rather than two tables in the front. BS
You do realize that that seating in a restaurant is based off of which server is next to be sat and wherever there section is and there’s a good chance that section in the front wasn’t assigned to any servers so therefore not able to be sat
Because this BS small mindedness is at work tearing through your free country. When democracy is over do you actually think your pale skin will win you favor??
I have never gone to a restaurant with a big group and we are ALL seated at separate tables. They usually make a effort to put some of the tables together. Why was she and her husband put back there with a group of people they had no connection with?
Front of restaurant has small seat with 2-6 people per table. Back of restaurant showed 10+ people at a time per table. Most probably the black were just in large groups and needed bigger tables.
Blacks at the back, whites at the window seats … pretty conclusive, although I wasn't educated in a country (America) who's educational achievements, is below Estonia's. And I'm guessing you don't know where Estonia is, without looking it up - cough! Anyway Karen, don't you worry none, Trump will be back - cough, sneeze!
exactly It's your money it's your evening and you just tell them that you want to sit there or not it It's not hard, but people get so sheep-like that they think that the law says they have to sit in a certain part of the restaurant, how dumb and they see the sign at the front of the restaurant says please wait to be seated It's your money It's like going to the movie theater unless it's reserved seating you tell them where you sit where you want to sit unless a section is closed or it's very very crowded maybe you want privacy maybe you want to view through the window maybe you don't want to be near the kitchen there are a lot of choices of restaurants out there they know that ,you know that, You hold the strings
turn mountains into molehills, not the other way around. But, at the end of the day, that's their problem not ours. Can you imagine trying to go through life ALWAYS being offended and whatever else??? It would be so exhausting. Easier to just ChillTheFuckOut
Notice tourists assuming to cause unintended issues. International Drive...really! Those people don't have time for that crap, the busiest tourist season on record with the lowest employment rate + inventory shortages... Should be lucky the restaurant was even open, let alone seating a party of 36! Wow.
i think most people, if they are being honest, feels the same. Black diners have been denied entry to our restaurant for smelling like weed. Like cmon, seriously, adults. Do what you want, but you do not have the right to impose on anyone else's space
I have worked in restaurants for many years and Their explanation For the seating that evening makes sense and I've done it before. A group may be too large to sit together and we've had to split them up, Also it's not far off that a large group might be Members of the same race for all 36 though I'm not sure. I do want to point out that The young lady Did not outright accuse she did use the word I think Quite a few times. This is why we post our experiencesOn social mediaNot to play victim butLook what happened afterwards. Not only was the matter addressed by the restaurant Others have come forward Saying this happened to them too. Trust me black people know exactly how many black people are in any given room at any time. When races involved and there happens to be a coincidence, Relying on the latter is more risky than addressing the former just in case. This is why we need DEI & CRT in America
This does happen. I was in the same situation with another restaurant. I remeber being passed through dining area where were only white folks sitting with the tables available around them. And we were seated in the other dining area where were only people of color. Tell me that was just a coincidence.
@@helpme100 accountable for what? What if it really was a mistake? And better yet, why does anyone care? What’s the big freaking deal? Grow up, And no I’m not white before you assume.
I don't see no segregation here. From the pictures theirs a group of Caucasian woman on the left side of you, than the 36 group of African Americans on the right side of you than theirs a group of Caucasian people towards the back window and the smaller parties are in front. Shame on you lady trying to start a racial issue when their wasn't one from the start
Rule Of Thumb: Hosts will never EVER seat an entire section of a restaurant with ONLY blacks. Restaurants, GM's, Servers, Bussers, everyone are aware of tipping practices and they know they have to spread the bad tippers around, so everyone can make money. I cannot even imagine waiting tables at a black establishment, no thank you.
@@beefybitcoin8085I hate saying this but you’re right. I just finished replying to someone telling them that I used to work at a restaurant when I was younger here in the Bronx. There are nothing but minorities in these areas. However many white people traveling would come in on a daily basis. Black servers would say things like “ If they’re black don’t sit them in my section. They don’t tip well if at all “.
Notice the white husband not only said He didn't see it? but did no talking during the whole interview? This is the benefit of sticking with your own kind? because A black man would have understood the situation A lot quicker and spoke up? Trust me her husband knew what was going on? He just didn't want to say it?🤨
You know the answer to that. I used to hear black servers telling hosts “ if they’re black don’t sit them in my section. They don’t tip well if at all “.
Wow, I just reserved my 44th birthday at Jacksonville location. This breaks my heart as the dishes are priced as an upscale restaurant I don't trust easily 😔
its okay, just remember TWENTY PERCENT for that server, especially if you are celebrating an occasion and are going to ask the server for anything at all. 20%.
I’m going to tell you something! I’m Latino, and black, and me and my girlfriend always visit maggiano’s every time we go to Orlando on vacation, and there is no way they are in any way racist. They are one of the best restaurants in Orlando. These couple are race batting to get attention or a free meal.
This is random but I’m curious as to why Latino is before black when describing yourself? No malice.or right or wrong answer I’m just curiosity on a psychological level.. my child is biracial so I’m just curious to your perspective in life..there may be something i can learn .
I frequent this restaurant often. It appears as if I sat in what she labels the "black section" so why was I sat there? Because it is not the 'black section'. Even her own pictures tell on her. Shame on her. She's looking for free food and the restaurant, unfortunately caved.
This black woman is complaining over nothing, just plain circumstantial of the events that day. If I was the owner of the restaurant, I'd refuse her business for being a complainer of nothing.
How do you know that the caucasians didn't show up for dinner earlier than the brown people? How do you know if those who were at the front wasn't all together? How do you know if the people sitting at the back didn't want to sit at the front? Anywho, a short time of fame
Probably separate everyone like people want. To many angry people these days. Why can't we just be people again like Martin King wanted. Just people all colors made by God and for God! We should be focusing on our souls where are you spending eternity?????
@@helpme100 Absolutely agree with you! This BS taboo of sweeping issues of race under the rug because it’s difficult has to stop. It needs to be fixed or it will be the undoing of the democracy most of us desperately want to keep. Keep the tax payers fighting with each other so they never bother to look up and see who is really crapping on them.
We were never without the wretched racism sewn into the fabric of our nation. The place is pretty much built around white supremacy, now is the time to fix it. Saying turn to God is great for those who happen to believe. Not an actual solution though, this is a human made problem and human kind needs fix it.
We already in segregation, if someone hates me because I'm white then it's fine with me. If blacks hates whites and whites hate blacks, why not segregate, that would solve the problem. I don't like segregation and want friends of any race but if race issue doesn't stop, segregation will be the only way because too many trying to play race card all the time.
I went to a restaurant once, wife was already sitting and. Told them her name, and they told me no one there with that name. Litter did they know my wife is white, this happened about 13 times😉 Oh yeah mistake right
@@OatmealPancake-ej8ky considering I'm a arab, you better hope I don't show my face to you or any of these blacks, because one: I've no guilt inside me, so if you mess with me is ya habibi As Salam to you people.
If they are going to segregate you, imagine what they would do to your food. Why go to these restaurants? Nobody is craving Italian food these days. Its a lot of gluten and cheese and tomato sauce. Tomato sauce is going to give you acid reflux and cheese and gluten not good for you health wise. Plus the food have no flavor. You are basically eating cardboard. They charging you $30 for spaghetti and meatballs when that meal cost $4. If I go out to eat, I need to eat delicious food and maggiano is not delicious and its unhealthy.
This story is BS. There was a large party of 36 black people. They showed up at different times and they were being sat in the same section of the restaurant. There was no "segregation" going on.
It’s just a bunch of liberals trying to shut places down I’ve been there before and I know people that work there in the half the kitchen people that work in the back in the kitchen are black
I guess these people never worked in the restaurant we have to place people were they need to be sitting if they’re huge group they have to sit in the back that’s just the way it usually is because most the front ones are booths
Well we know they haven't worked in this industry or they would know how to tip which 99% don't. That's why most people don't like waiting on them because they cost the server money to wait on them and the restaurant because they complain about everything until they get something free.
I zoomed the pictures and she is overreacting. I literally saw like three black people in the front and a black woman in the right side very close to her husband standing in the picture. In the back of the room the table to the right side has white skin people maybe Hispanics or maybe just Caucasians as well as behind the husband pictures there is like two more white people. She is from NJ so she probably is not use to FL diversity. She just has complexity issues and needs to get over it. If the service was excellent then I don't see anything wrong. If the service was bad towards them, that's an issue.
