I experienced something like this in a fast food restaurant while having a conversation with a friend in German. A random approached us and berated us for not speaking English. We quickly let him know that we learned German while serving in the Army overseas and that we were willing to take it outside and show him what else we learned in the Army. Wisely he chose to stand down and make a hasty retreat.
The reason some ppl are against this, is Because employers make the white man learn english. I should not have to learn english. I'm trying to get an office job. And I should not have to be bilingual just to get an office job. Because ABC company and all their customers speak Spanish. Those customers should speak english. I can't get an office job. Because I don't speak Spanish well. Suck my c
Yeah but people are disrespectful with it using it to alienate themselves from others they don't like & just being fascist with it. Surely people know this right? Allot of Spanish speaking people are only here for personal financial gain & they don't want to associate with any white people & use their language as a weapon. They get welfare & all of that off of our system & want to be rude & use our country & be untitled & use the race card all the time. When anyone calls them out on it. So..
Dos veces he viajado a los Estados Unidos y doy gracias por las muchas personas que encontré hablando español y me hicieron sentir como en casa, ya que yo desgraciadamente no hablo inglés. Saludos desde España.
T R U T H Didn't you hear what Lindsey said at the end (woman sitting at far left), it could be to attempt to attract clients ; ANYBODY can say that they speak a 2nd or 3rd language, etc.. There isn't sufficient evidence that he actually speaks it, much less fluently.
@@debbiefritts-boyce5118 No, english is the official language of USA, every document under the law of federal government are all written in english and you must have english sufficiency to gain citizenship or to even study in the U.S.
Sure, like the most part of the people who talk in english. Im from Spain and we know the people who talk english don´t know to talk nothing more...and the most part will not learn another language for nothing in the world, but they keep traveling to another countries where don´t speak english hahaha...so dumb kind of thinking. what kinda comment is this. so if your a tourist and you need help with directions in a foreign country, you are not allowed to ask someone if they can speak English?
Ayaaz Ahmed u r allowed, of course lmao but it has to do with the fact that citizens of x country ain’t english native speakers. Thus if they do not understand english it’s completely fine. The milestone of this narrative: do not pretend everyone to speak ur mother tongue.
New Mexico has laws providing for the use of both English and Spanish, as Louisiana does for English and French. Other states, such as California, mandate the publication of Spanish versions of certain government documents including court forms.
The United States is home to many cultures and a wide variety of ethnic groups, traditions, and values. Aside from the Native American, Native Hawaiian, and Native Alaskan populations, nearly all Americans or their ancestors settled or immigrated within the past five centuries. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the dominant Anglo-Americans relegated the Hispanics living in New Mexico to second-class social status, due to unfamiliarity and prejudice. Some of these "Anglos" were ethnocentric, deprecating Hispanic/Mexican culture and questioning the people's fitness for democracy. Some claim, in response, they constructed a "Spanish American" identity in an early instance of cultural citizenship (expressing Americanism through ethnic identity) Around 1920, the term "Spanish-American" replaced "Mexican" in polite society and in political debate. The new term served both the interests of both groups. For Spanish speakers, it evoked Spain, not Mexico, recalling images of a romantic colonial past and suggesting a future of equality in Anglo-dominated America. For Anglos, on the other hand, it was a useful term that upgraded the state's image, for the old image as a "Mexican" land suggested the violence and disorder associated with that country's civil war in the early 20th century. This had discouraged capital investment and set back the statehood campaign. The new term gave the impression that "Spanish Americans" belonged to a true "American" political culture, making the established order appear all the more democratic. Mexicans and Indians in the annexed territories faced a loss of civil and political rights, even though the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo promised American citizenship to all Mexican citizens living in the territory of the Mexican Cession. The U.S. government withheld citizenship from Indians in the southwest until the 1930s, although they were citizens under Mexican law.
I am Puertorrican and I speak Spanish, English and Italian. But I also speak a bit of French and German. I work at an airport and people ask me all kind of questions. For me, speaking in their own language is an act of respect and empathy. It took me by surprise when a neat gentleman asked me question in Spanish when he was born in Germany and he told me that he learned in high school.
Well I mean he is actually right us Americans do pay for there welfare and stuff they take our jobs and benefits from us Americans m and we don’t even get our own jobs or stuff because people from different countrys come to our country America and take over it’s ridiculous
For ever Dead inside unexpected clownery Do u know what really hurts? My family are US citizens are from the commonwealth/territory of Puerto Rico. My father was a sailor in the US Navy. I’m an active duty (full time) soldier in the US Army, & a Combat Action Veteran. I’ve looked at my relatives, & my US passport. The only difference says that I was born in New York, USA. There’s says that they were born in Puerto Rico, USA. Flying from PR to the mainland is like flying from Florida to NY, or Hawai’i to Alaska, & then to Oregon. It’s just flying from one place to another in the same country. Since Puerto Rico became part of the US in 1897, that means that I am a fourth generation American born in this country. To all of you who feel like you should speak only English in the USA, let me know how that works out in Puerto Rico? You’re in for a ruuuuuude awakening!!!! I’m a proud descendant of the citizens of the part of the United States of America, Puerto Rico. Call ISIS on the Puerto Rican’s. All there going to do is ask the “lawyer” why he wants to deport US citizens to another part of the US?🇵🇷
To have the ability to speak two or more languages as well as to understand a culture, other than our own, is a great blessing. It allows us to recognize ourselves as sharing a common humanity. Far too many of us, in the U.S.A., have been so indoctrinated with the idea that we are somehow superior beings that we manifest ourselves, at the most inopportune of times, as being so much less than human.
I'll never understand how people get so upset over hearing other people have a personal conversation in another language. What country do you think we live in where you can verbally assault others for speaking other languages!?
Well, I can think of one instance for myself. One day I was helping out customers who spoke bad English; it was really difficult to help them because of this. I speak 3 languages fluently but I had no idea what they wanted to communicate. Anyways, at the end of the transaction, I could see the customers talking to each other and laughing while making eye contact with me. I definitely didn’t feel comfortable, but I managed to keep my cool! « Maybe it’s not about me » is what I said to myself, but it sure felt like it.
This is such an unprofessional showing of his a**. Have your views, your beliefs. Don’t attack people verbally or elsewise and keep your opinions to yourself when dining, etc in PUBLIC. Totally uncalled for!
@Nautica's Erotica Audios A few words, many words, that isn't relevant since it's still pathetic to lash out like that. The man threatened to call ICE, which means he made the assumption they're illegal immigrants.
They don't like our lenguage, but also they like our womens or mens to f*ck. Yeah, i am mexican, and i can say, mexico isn't a paradise. But at least we are open to another cultures. Yes, there is racist persons here, but every country has at least a lot of people who think it is right. What i am trying to say is... Guys like that, you can find them everywhere. There is no scape. this situation is even weirder cuz he can speak spanish himself. and if the employees couldnt speak english, just ask for someone who can. problem solved.
@Adam Muklewicz It's just nonsense man. Saying that speaking other languages in public is rude in a country with such degree of diversity is just delusional.
In Russia, people speak almost 200 of their own native languages, plus they are fluent in Russian, and the young generation is fluent in English or French also.
This man should be reported for not speaking in Cherokee or Navajo. The nerve of this man for demanding a European language to be spoken in Indigenous land.

My best friend and I would speak Klingon to each other in public on the hopes someone would over hear and say something. One lady at a mall in Phoenix told us to "speak English or go back to Mexico." That was 20 years ago and I haven't laughed that hard since.
What !!!!! Not Many Western Countries are Free ...Its getting to be like George Orwells 1984 .. We cant Say This We cant say That ..We cant do This and We cant do That ..Soon We will be Speaking a Global Language ..
The United States has never had an official language. 32 states have made laws giving official status to English, but there is no such law on the federal level.
@@darreylhenderson8979 Oh right, i'll have to look it up and see if you're right or not. I just thought that the main language that everyone spoke would be the official language, didn't know they'd have to set laws in place for a language.
@@juliabrooks8396 Why do you think there are only 5 rings for the Olympics instead of 7. Antarctica doesn't count. It's because the rest of the world doesn't view it as North America and South America. That's only the United States and some other parts of the world I believe. They just view it as America. Which is why there are only 5 rings. America, Africa, Asia, Europe, Australia
Dante Caudillo No that’s not true most people are taught that America is two continents north and south. The idea that America is one continent is only prevalent before ww2.
@@2dhoes240 America being two continents is only taught in the United States (obviously) and other countries. America being one continent is mainly taught in Spanish speaking countries. Plus it seems this is the general idea for the rest of the world. Why do you think there are five rings for the Olympics instead of 7. Antarctica doesn't count since it's inhabited. The rings are America, Africa, Europe, Asia, and Australia. They don't have North and South America. And before giving me an excuse that the Olympic Rings were made during before World War 2 it can be changed to 6 rings.
@@2dhoes240 But I actually hate this whole debate about whether "America" is a country or continent. It pretty much just depends on where you live. If you live in the United States you were taught that "America" is a country. If you live in a Spanish speaking country you were taught that "America" is a continent. Me personally I believe it's a continent because that's how I was raised. I am a United States citizen so I was taught in school that "America" is a country but my parents are hispanic and I learned from them first so I was taught first that "America" is a continent. But to be honest I don't blame this debate on the people. I blame it on The Founding Fathers for not coming up with a better name for this country. Like why United States of America. Why not United States of Philadelphia. I mean that's where the Declaration of Independence was signed so it would be pretty understand why you name the country Philadelphia.
Barbara Debel I might have studied spanish as a third language for three years, but I have no confidence that I understood what you said, but I think it was something about the history of america and how ignorant some people are. Am I right? Idk.........
That crazy Guy, Barbara say that America is a whole continent, with 35 countries. In 18 countries, with 500 millions of habitants, Spanish is the oficial language, the Spanish is the most spoken language in America.
To have an official language does not make it the only language that you can speak in public. It only becomes the language of andministration, government teaching ...but you can speak whatever you want . In Spain , Spanish is the official language and there areother languages which are cooficial in their territories . Where I live now it is only Spanish, but people can speak whichever they want in private bussiness , or regular conversations everywere . You can't tell people which language they should speak !!
Thats just racism talking. I tried to learn spanish in school but i really had a hard time understanding it. How can i expect anyone else to learn my language? We have google translate with a voice function, i was able to communicate on the jobsite with spanish speaking construction crews just fine. I dont see what the big deal is.
@Broly the sarcastic savage You are avoiding the point. There is a crisis of Hispanic migrants forcing their way into America. When you speak Spanish in public you are identifying as a part of the problem "When in Rome, do as the Romans do", not what you can do to draw attention to yourself.

The funny thing is that Spanish was spoken in the US territory even before the US and the British arrived. So in terms of history, Spanish is part of the US even more than English.
Namjoon ARMY sorry but a language which is one of the easiest to learn and is spoken by 900 million people and has close relative languages is not unique. Basque is an unique language or hungarian or welsh
"This is America." *Where we have different cultures but we don't like them.* (Edit: This does not apply to me, and I wasn't trying to offend anyone, so chill. We are all human and should be treated equal. That's where I stand.)
Your manipulating the situation. We don't go to Mexico and ask for people to learn our language. We get taught in school different languages so we can go to other countries and be able to communicate. So they shouldn't be coming over here not knowing the language and expect others to learn it to convenience them.
Chelsea Fricke Convenience? The people speaking Spanish were having a private conversation he had no reason to pull this shit other than being a bigoted lil prick lmao piss off with your bullshit
I don't understand why ppl get offended when they hear someone speaking in another languages, when I hear someone speaking another language I just think they're cool.
yeah and I think everyone should know English if you live in America . in schools thats the most dominant language your taught not Spanish . also I think people who only know Spanish it makes them comfortable never having to learn English and if you want to live in america you should at least ty to learn English. Ive been to places were nobody spoke english and Im American and I find that strange at times I feel like im in mexico.
@Nautica's Erotica Audios Right thats what I thought because in most countrie like canada for instnace to become a citizen you have to take a Canada proficiency test as one of the requirements . So when I see people just happily moving through america not even trying to learn English and just get comfortable and go to places and just seek out Spanish speakers I kind of get this guys frustration although the rant about welfare i don't agree with . but Its kind of disrespectful you want to live in america but not learn the language. and some workers don't even ask people if they speak english they automatically start talking in spanish Ive been in line and seen it a million times and im like at least see if they speak English your enabling these people to never learn .
When are they going to teach/learn that America is the whole continent, from Alaska to Tierra del Fuego in Argentina! Not Just the United States of America! 😳
Quite true. The medical field, education field and the Armed Forces pay more to employees who are bilingual. I only mention those because I've worked within those environments. Y si hablas mas de dos idiomas, pues es mucho mas mejor para ti. If you already speak Spanish and English then it's usually easier to learn any of the other Romance languages, such as Italian, French, and Portuguese.

I speak Filipino and a lot of people really hate our language for some reason. I was at Walmart with my mom. We were in line at the counter and I was having a conversation with her in Filipino because she's having a hard time speaking in English and that’s what she’s more comfortable with. This couple in front of us turned around and asked us what language we're speaking. I told them it's Filipino. Then they asked if we could just speak in English because they find it annoying when we speak in our own language. We're not even loud. We were talking in a moderate voice. My mom was really offended but I told her to just ignore them. She does understand English but she just can’t speak fluently but she’s very eager to learn. So we left the store and drove home and she was silent the whole trip. I really felt bad for her. She's one of the nicest, most caring, and happiest people I know but when she gets upset, it just breaks my heart. She didn’t deserve that kind of treatment. I just hope people need to understand that this country is not just for one race or nationality. It's a diverse country.
I'm sorry you experienced something like that, but people don't hate the languange, they hate you for speaking it bc they're ignorant and a bunch pf busybodies who wanted to eavesdropped on someone elses's conversation.
