Steal Our Knowledge from Our Universities. Seriously? Are these Chinese students paying for the knowledge? Yes. How can someone sell something and accused the buyer of stealing?

@@zacksmith5963 Ah, I see what your random defensiveness about Chinese students was in reference to now. Perhaps chill out and bicker with one person at a time? The issue with Chinese theft from universities has little or nothing to do with ordinary Chinese undergrad students. It's about the Chinese state investing huge resources in stealing IP and tech from Western firms, because under the totalitarian dictatorship that China is, innovation (that requires asking questions of the status quo) is a direct threat to the ruling party. So it doesn't; happen. Which is why the Chinese state and companies perfer to steal innovation rather than do it themselves. And let's not pretent that the Chinese state is anything other than the greatest copier of ideas in history.

We have had massive deflation over the last 30 years mostly due to Chinese manufacturing. Look at white goods and electronic goods, regardless of brand it’s made in China or in the case of cookers Turkey. If you want low price goods it can’t be made in the EU, if you have ever been to Chinese factories you would see huge factories with mega investments and unbelievable outputs, eg the EU output would be a day or so for some of these factories. A factory making range cookers was recently closed its parent company is an Irish company, this company over the years has closed all of its UK manufacturing and moved most of it to China and some to Turkey, the remainder of the factory closes this year. A factory that used to employ some 700 is now 0, the workers were paid slightly above minimum wage even though skilled, the factory was under invested with presses being very old. It could not compete with a high tech Chinese factory wit( decent investment. China invests in manufacturing the uk does not, don’t blame China they are just doing manufacturing better because they understand manufacturing.

_"We have had massive deflation over the last 30 years mostly due to Chinese manufacturing."_ Massive deflation of the price of certain goods, and those low prices reached a historical low around 10 years ago and have been on the way back up since. That same Chinese expansion is the reason we're all paying higher prices for the fuel, steel, cement etc that Chinese firms and individuals want. That's not complex economics. _"China invests in manufacturing the uk does not, don’t blame China they are just doing manufacturing better because they understand manufacturing."_ While that's technically true, there are zero manufacturing innovations to have come from China. Chinese firms are able to keep prices so low because they pay their staff a tiny fraction of Western minimum wages, they work them 7-days a week, have zero health & safety, no social services (pensions, healthcare etc) and almost everything they make is copied, so they have no R&D costs. On top of that, the state also massively subsidises many industries (rather than funding hospitals, schools, pensions etc. On top of that, China's currency is not freely floating. We are not playing on a level field with China, and until we are, we should not engage with them economically.

@@zacksmith5963 well USA and UK have made terrible mistakes in recent years but I hope we continue our journey of improvement. China is steady but it holds the party up as a replacement for what we would call the crown. China is fantastic but it needs to develop a democratic system in its own time. Just don't panic

Reducing dependency on China has to be done gradually as lots of firms are reliant on their products, parts or assembly labour. If it is not phased out slowly, a lot of UK and other business will be lost. This cannot be replaced overnight. It will take years.

If there's a choice between enriching China (a nation that's been building itself up for war with the West for 15 years) and driving hybrid or ICE cars, all Western nations will choose ICE and hybrid cars. BTW, you know an average 5 seater Chinese electric car is twice as expensive as your average 5 seater Western car.
