Gotta love the way that jerk acts like you're the one doing it wrong. What an A-hole. Even if you have that happen all day long, you have to have a bit of understanding that the truck driver is literally just going where they tell him with the paperwork they give him.

@@apocyldoomer Putting up with junk is easy to do, just that tone would be addressed. Me, I'm a hot head when someone treats me like that. I would have raised my tone and litterally told him to drop the attitude before problems arise. Thick skin doesnt mean i have to put up with someone's attitude, just their junk they like to play (to an extent). That is the norm. Americans are so entitled and blame who is in front of them. The pharmacist is blamed for insurance not paying. The nurse is blamed for the dr being late. The counter worker is blamed for the cook not following the orders correctly. Truck driver is the worst recipient ever. Overweight, wrong address, late delivery, no communication with recipients or shippers and majority is the fault of the dispatcher. I remember once I asked my dad what he had in his trailer. He responded dispatcher brains. He was empty

I've worked with Freeman for about 7 years now. I completely agree the wait times & layovers should be upfront - Freeman does pay us $50/hr after 2hrs and up to $350/day + $250 driver layover which is rare (it does not coincide with wait time, it is in addition to detention). The scales are unfortunately lost in translation along the way about 20% of the time because most shows don't require it - This was delivered to an advance warehouse and the weight is how they make their money. All in all - Don't take trade show loads if you haven't done them before or if your broker does not sound like they have been doing them for years. There is a method to the madness and it's all about connections, experience, and waiting. There is a lot of problems that come up, most easily resolved, but you don't need a rookie driver or broker working this freight.
@shaolinabbot0126
@shaolinabbot0126 2 года назад
@@penarudy66 Ask for it specifically to be included in the Special Instructions when you receive it from the customer or broker. That way it is legally binding. Anytime I run trade show loads specifically the detention times and layovers are clearly laid out so there is no confusion. I'm a broker - if you ever want some honest advise from my side of the industry feel free to ask.

You couldn't pay me enough money to sit and wait around all day. Whenever I had a job that was so slow, I was constantly sweeping the floor, that just destroyed my soul. I was working on a bread line, and I had 25kg bags to open onto the production line in a large room with only one other guy working the other machine. So, I counted how long I had for each bag, and it was around 60 seconds. They had a machine to lift the bags too, so all you had to do was cut cut open. And, you could do 3 - 4 in a row, so, this was the routine, open 4 bags with the 4th sitting on the top. Sweep the floor for 3 minutes, open bags again for like 20 seconds, then back to sweeping. Imagine a job where you have to spend 80% of your time sweeping the floor. Dude on the other machine was just leaning up against the pallet. Sometimes at the bottom he'd sit on the pallet and spin around a bit. Damn, you don't know how shitty this can be. So, another job I'd be in the cooler in the cold with a jacket, and the boxes come through a hole in the wall. Sometimes they would stop dead, I'd be sleeping on top of a pallet at the bottom of the racking near the hole, waiting for the boxes again. Then one time, all the boxes come flying in so fast that the whole thing backs up as I'm running around like crazy. Because I was the end of the day guy, meant to get the slow trickle, but sometimes the label machine would fail, by the time it was at the end, my area would be super inefficient with pallets everywhere. I could never handle a huge rush just on my own, and these people did just that, they flooded me, and I was screwed. Terrible job, I hated it.

Here's the thing.....keep in mind I'm not a truck driver, but I'm looking at it from a manager/supervisor point of view. If there was a shortage of truck drivers, then what you said makes sense. These A Holes though? They're thinking that they can "easily" get themselves another driver so why treat them well?

It's the same with my industry (scaffolding). The customer wants us to get them into places they physically can't get to, and then when we do, we're in the way. While we're building it, we're in the way. The second they're finished using the scaffold, we're in the way. We get treated like maggots to do a job very few can do and then we're expected to also be nice to these people. If you're entrusting your life to someone it's probably not a good idea to shit all over them. Workplace "accidents" happen all the time.

That is what happens when you haul brokered loads. They are middle men who take your money, lie and make stuff up to get the load picked up. They sometimes pay detention at a rate not comensurate with your time and loss of income. Get your own loads as an O/O or get a job with a manufacturer who has their own trucks. Both shippers and receivers. Been that way for decades. All this talk of a truck shortage is crap. If they would load and unload and have us on our way in less than 2 hours things wouldnt be broken right now. But when you spend what looks to be all day on this one load. That means at least 1 if not 2 loads are now late for pick or delivery. Then it balloons from there on out. Now they supply chain is broken. Honestly only way to fix it now is if everyone didn't buy anything for 2 months. That means absolutely nonthing. Then maybe the supply chain will begin to correct itself. Maybe.... Although you could blame a system called inventory control ordering. It's a system that only allows a set number of products to be ordered and shipped based on sale volume. So if a store as been sold out of an item the previous week. They system believes it didn't sell any. So none or ordered. At least until the quarterly inventory counts are done. That basically resets the system to begin to fulfill the orders for product. Too many things are tied into one system. And its beginning to show just how fragile it was from the start. It was broken before the pandemic it will only stay broken. Until everyone comes together and work on a solution not for the short term. But for the long term with contingency plans.

And, yes, everything I heard him say is the standard operating procedure and the shipper should have known it (unless this is their first convention). It's how it works at all facilities. Freeman is one of the top three convention center contractors for moving shows in and out. They are union labor contractors also. So, if he sounds terse, it's because he's used to working with union laborers and their unions. He was, again from what I heard, just typical of people managing all logistics that goes into setting up and tearing down a convention.
@gatheraround2620
@gatheraround2620 2 года назад
Yeah...once you get the system figured out, it can be pretty good money. Should be glad he wasn't coming into the convention center on move-in or move-out day. Then you're stuck in a lot with a couple hundred trucks until they need your items. If I could get loads to and from Freeman, etc., warehousing, I would do that...usually good money and light loads. Been in some interesting places to get into, even with a Volvo, like Seattle, San Francisco, or Nashville...and let's not forget Washington DC...never did NY...whew! LOL...remember being one of 23 trucks picking up in PA taking one display to Las Vegas (remember it because of needing a tow truck because of ice, snow, and vehicles parked where they weren't supposed to be...and I wasn't the only one). Memories...sweet and sour...LOL

1st-time viewer here. I just have to say, Justin, your attitude and professionalism in this video's evolution is Dude Perfect! When the frustrations pile up, taking those seconds to recheck your information and emotions, then calmly explain the situation and ask for help with courtesy and a professional bearing will not only get you the service you need (eventually), but help keep you from taking it personally. If someone who screwed up this shipment's handling but watches this video, they'll know precisely how you were wronged, and what it cost you. You had to wear a bunch of hats momentarily there, to sort it all out. If it weren't for you, the people who originated this shipment and the people who're ultimately going to exhibit it, or display it or whatever, would have been *screwed*! You *saved* their butts! You might have even saved a business deal for that manufacturer. Asking $500 in compensation for the screwup is well justified, I mean...let's say the mfg. lost out on a million dollar deal because that material didn't get to the expo for the buyers to see? The ripple effects could've hurt a lot more people. WELL DONE YOU! I really don't know the workings inside the trucking industry, but I just have to say that whomever you're working for, should be mighty glad they have someone like yourself driving for them. To whomever organized this shipment, please take note: get your details straight and your paperwork in order. You were very unprofessional in this. Can you see what it cost? Can you see the time wasted, fuel wasted, frustration caused, and loss of business it was about to cause? This driver did *your* job...and maybe got nothing but a lame "sorry". Strive to be a professional, no matter your job, like Justin here. Good day, driver. Keep on JustTrucking on! Thanks for showing the realities of your world to us. 😎

Trade shows are difficult. The exhibitor fees are insane. Crazy stuff like $500 to rent a chair for 3 days, or $100 per device per day in your booth that connects to the internet. So they're used to people trying to end-around their fees (justifiably, they're unreasonable) and view everyone as a cheater. Its really a broken industry.

The whole convention biz is messed up. Exhibitors are forced to pay the extortion prices for storage and setup. At least twice what what it should be. The convention center then gets a kickback, but some need that to keep the lights on. Imperfect system, but no one has the right to be a jerk just because they’re having a bad day.
