I think the main point isn't that he was shown in a compromising position in his own restaurant. It's that your team is 0 and 4. What the hell are you doing in Ohio? Why aren't you back in Jacksonville with your coaches trying to improve the team? Head coaches in the NFL don't get days off, especially when they have a win-less record. You got paid, Meyer. Now it's time to earn it.

Any college coach with that much success coupled with the scandals amongst his staff has already proven he doesn’t have the best judgement when it comes to non football related issues. This should be no shock to anyone that has been paying attention to his entire career. Not every great college coach has the list of scandals that Urban has.

Several years ago I saw Tom Izzo at a restaurant with a group of assistants. A girl approached him with a drink in her hand for a pic. He made her put the drink down. She then put her arms around his torso in sort of a bear hug and told her ‘no’ and put his arms around her shoulders for a normal pic. Izzo gets it.

Even the players who say he shouldn't be fired were incredibly surprised that he didn't take the flight home with the team, I think that's the biggest red flag. If this had happened in Jacksonville after the coaches put in a full day at the facilities, I think the players aren't nearly as upset. Skipping the flight was such a bone head move and the fact that nobody there corrected it means he's not surrounded by good people...or at least people who feel they can disagree with him.

I’m from Jacksonville and never got the Urban hype when he was hired. He did great things at Florida but looking back, he didn’t really lead them to be great men and when the going got tough, he folded.

The guy is a tool. He always has been. Winning makes people ignore things. He's not that good of a coach when the playing field is level. If you want to go for a college coach and put them in the pros then go for one that overachieves at a smaller school where he actually has to out coach the other team and their better talent. That's a coach who protects weaknesses, reinforces strengths, motivates players and puts his team in a position to be successful. These big school guys are a joke. Give them a team with less talent and they go flop.

I will never understand the infatuation with bringing college coaches to the Pros. So much of their methods and cultures just don't translate to the Pros. Plus the big time college coaches have such an advantage over most of the country as they have 4th stringers that could probably start at almost anywhere else.

The statement was clear. Meyer lost trust and respect. It sounds like grounds for dismissal. The Jags bye week is in two weeks. If he will be fired during the season, that's when it will happen. If the team doesn't look good against the Titans and Dolphins, it may end quickly for Meyer.

Rich is absolutely right. This was inexcusable. These guys need to realise that college and NFL are not the same. College is about teaching kids how to play, and winning championships to get your college funds and whatnot. @@A100-y2c He's coached against Navy at least twice before. The Bearcat D is something to behold. After the Peach Bowl last season, Georgia players said the UC defense was the best they faced all year and the D is largely intact from last year. They are stifling. I would look for a shut out.

I didn't find the Urban Meyer public statement either genuine or heartfelt at all. He looked down, mumbled and stifled the urge to just get out of there. It was a bad joke, an insult to the team, to the fans, and to the general public. The owner must have given credit for some modest contrition that I didn't see or hear. If anything, Meyer appeared to be another guy under duress making the required apology without an ounce of sincerity except in agreeing that his behavior was "stupid" but conveying that it was bad mostly because he was caught, busted, and embarrassed. I haven't followed Meyer's career closely at all, but I've always thought he came across as an arrogant jerk. This latest episode just exposes what was under the surface of the Meyer facade all along. I'm sure people who have followed him more closely will have other examples of that persona revealing itself at times. Meanwhile, we've got a QB for the Ravens with multiple accusations of sexual assault against him, and the NFL has so far done nothing.

Urban Meyer was a very weird hire. Could get an established NFL HC/OC/DC to be your HC, but they went with an unproven NFL commodity… Jags just keep being the Jags and it is a shame for the fans.

Welp… So much for all the “Meyer is going to kill it in the NFL”… he killed it all right, killed his career before it got started. Sad thing is he’s used his “grandchildren” as an excuse for being in that situation. Meyer is 57 years old, he and his children must have started mighty early having kids if he has “grandchildren” old enough to be in a bar…🤔🤨

I need to do more research into it as I really didn't know. He had a good record at UF, he's from Ohio and got his start there in coaching, so I thought it was a match made in heaven. Then he had health issues AGAIN. Left AGAIN. I was disappointed when he took the Jax job and I was going to be super pissed off if he went to USC. Hopefully his coaching days are over and he'll be lucky to have a family and more than half his money.

Him wanting to hire the strength coach who’s currently being sued by black former Iowa players is a prime example of how absentminded he is. That coach ridiculed and disrespected black college players and Urban initially hired him into a league where the majority of the players are black; and he thought it wouldn’t be a big deal? Talk about a person not reading the room…
