This is so accurate. It's not just being clean. It's sometimes doing motions a certain number of times. And you can't calm down until you do it. It's so inconvenient. And often annoys the person experiencing these compulsions. You have good days and bad days. Sometimes you can't even lay down in bed without having to tap your night stand 25 times with each hand. It is exhausting and isn't a joke.
@xnicolex
@xnicolex 2 года назад
There are times where Ive had to blink so many times over and over again because everything I do has to be done a certain number of times that I've given myself migraines. I've accidentally touched something hot and burned myself but had to touch it again several times in a row because I couldn't just touch it once. I drop things just to have to pick them back up and drop them again so that it wasn't just done once. Everything takes me at LEAST twice as long, usually longer because not only does it have to be done a certain number of times, but also to a specific beat inside my head, and if it doesn't feel right the first time, it can mean hours and hours of just doing the same thing over and over and over and over again. Even things I don't want to do, or didn't do intentionally. Everything has to be done a certain number of times to the same specific beat in my head. I also have an entire routine before I can go anywhere or go to sleep where I have to lock and check all of my doors 36 times each in sets of 2s and then do that 8-16 times in sets of 4, all to that same specific beat in my head. It makes even the smallest task a huge ordeal because it's not like I can just do the task once, I have to do it over and over again. Things that should take 5 seconds take 5 minutes. Washing one single dish is like washing 20 of them because I have to keep washing it over and over again

To all of you wondering what OCD is: - OCD stands for obsessive compulsive disorder. It’s symptoms vary from person to person. There are things such as existential OCD, having to be extremely clean, etc. You can feel guilty for doing the smallest of bad things. You can have things that if you do not do them you will get extremely uncomfortable and/or worried. You can have intrusive thoughts. You can have to check things and do something a certain number of times. _It really depends on the person though, and you can have more than one form of OCD. There are also other symptoms I did not list, so feel free to add them to the replies._

This is what we need more of as well, along with spreading the awareness. I am heartwarmed at how you dealt with this and grew to be better and want to advocate for becoming aware for things like this. I used to be the same way, and I mess up plenty but try to get better at it and learn more as we all should :) It's a great thing -- taking responsibility for things than can be either harmless or harmful, all in order to hopefully prevent construing the truth into one's favor when it isn't even necessary. It may cause the spread of misinformation and misplaced reactions towards serious situations/conditions. People admitting to themselves what we mess up with from time to time helps with growth. It makes spreading awareness so much more effective when we ponder the effect we have on other people and what other people experience as well.

Practice keeping yourself from giving in to the urge to do it as long as possible. You'll be in discomfort and maybe you can't even do it at first but it is something you can practice. After a while it can get easier and eventually you may even be able to resist it. This is the most uncomfortable phase but after resisting the urge again and again, your brain slowly starts to learn that there's really nothing to worry about. This is a lot easier said than done, it takes a lot of will power and time but that's how it went for me at least. A good therapist can be incredibly helpful with this.

OCD Is when you get impultions that you HAVE to do otherwise you will get intrusive thoughts and anxiety or even depression. And for me, these intrusive thoughts, even led up to me attempting suicide because i wanted a better life and i wanted to live a normal life like everybody else without having to deal with my OCD. Thats what OCD actually is. But most people still mistake it for this. OCD needs to be taken way more seriously and people just need to learn what it really is.

Thanks for saying this. People just think OCD is just being a "neat freak", when in reality, it's devastating. I can't even explain it in words how much pain it inflicts.We are struggling, we don't want to spend hours on the same thing. But we can't control ourselves, it's our brain. It acn take up to several hours in a day. Especially in school,or times when there's stress. It gets SO bad. Also doing repetitive actions to get rid of the unwanted and intrusive thoughts, mine is like hitting my head with hand untill I feel dizzy and those thoughts subside for a while. OCD really sucks.

OCD is definitely one of those mental disorders where everybody’s laughing or angry until they see its not funny anymore, until they watch you completely unravel into yourself and lay in a destroyed pit of hell. Just seeing one video of someone aware of what it actually is has given me so much hope. I’m only 17 but I feel way past the age where I have any life to live. Thank you so much for making this❤❤ the OCD I had for all my teen years had nothing to do with being organized at ALL. Every day felt like it was a battle that I had to fight alone. I never told my parents about it until I was in my twenties and they still don't understand that it was OCD because "that doesn't sound like OCD". And they always reference OCD as being a cleaning and organizing obsession. When in reality it was things like me having to rinse out a cup at least 30 times before I would drink out of it(not to get it clean. Just cause of the urge). Checking the front door was closed and locked about 5-10 times. Going about my day And I would stumble upon a toy on the floor and have to walk around it a certain way or otherwise something bad would happen to my family that day and it would be my fault And MANY more things that would take forever to list. But it is a very miserable thing to have. The best way I can describe it is, the way you cringe at the idea of playing with dolls when you get older because you have done it so many times that you hate it? That's the same feeling I got every time I would give into the OCD urge, and the more I did, the more I HATED it and myself.
