A zillion people go crazy about the new Behringer Pro800, but Jexus proves they're all wrong. The Cobalt simply is a top notch synth for a very affordable price.
@@JexusThank you. I dig that. 😁 I like the Modwave and appreciate it for its digital grittiness, the lof character and the softness you can achieve. It can be damn good for vintage VA too. For me it's a keeper.
I've listened carefully to many synthesizer demos as well as owned quite a few. The Cobalt 8 *sounds* *great*. However, as my eyes have deteriorated with my age, The user interface to this synth seems would be frustrating for me to use. The front panel looks very plain. There is no contrasting between knobs of the various sections that other synths have - (osc section, filter section, envelopes) and text labels unnecessarily small especially around the knobs. Does anyone find editing patches uncomfortable on the Cobalt 8?
Does it have memory? It's really challenging for me to make a video of a synth without memory. It would have to be a spontaneous-noodling sort of thing, or I would have to film it over the span of several weeks.
If you take a closer look at the architecture, you'll notice Modals have no levels mixer. It's impossible to "raise" the level of an oscillator - you can only "mix" it in relation to the other oscillator (in other words: you can "set a balance" between osc 1 & 2). What's more, any of the three FX, once used, reduces the output volume. So , for example, if you take a basic patch and you put some chorus on top of it, the volume of the patch will go down. And if you decide to use more FX (for example chorus + delay), the volume will go down even more. Also, detuning osc 1 & 2 lowers the volume. Modal people say this is for the sake of audio quality (=the synth has lower volume but sounds "better" than other synths).
There is an idiot who made a video gloating this was the best Wavetable synth around, when he was corrected that it was a VA, he changed his story then sent his 8X back. Could you imagine being so stupid? You make this synth sing, sounds great, I just don't have room for one lol.
