Hi Rob, your vids are great, I've always been a Nirvana fan and figured most of the songs out myself including the bass drumming which took a while to get used to but some of the fills i didnt know if i was playing them correct, i had a look on your channel and they are played and taught perfectly! A few years ago i started with some of the nevermind stuff and then advanced on to in utero, i have to say your videos are quick, easy and correct! Thanks a a lot you've really helped my drumming come along over the past few years. Cheers

Such an interesting way to do this rhythm i have no idea how he thought of this when making the song, still solidified as one of the best drummers in history, absolute legend Dave Grohl 👏👏 (Thanks for breaking this down! I listened to this properly for the first time today and ive been wrecking my brain trying to figure out the time signatures and stuff haha)

It's all a matter of notation and interpretation of course, but I prefer to think of the whole song in 4/4, the crashes on 1, and the main verse beat is just displaced by an eighth note, creating a simple "rhythmic illusion". If you count it that way, I think everything comes out even, which seems more likely to me as Nirvana doesn't have much of anything with odd times.

Yeah theyre doing the same thing pixies did on bone machine, with the snare on the 4 and the whole beat out of step with the band.
