This BBC documentary takes us to the UK Theravada Buddhist Monastery Chithurst in 1985, where a person ordains to become a monk. Ajahn Sumedho gives his insights on the monastic life in the West.

Sadhu sadhu: Ajarn Chah and Ajarn Sumedho: two of the greatest Buddhist monks (Thai/Lao Forest Tradition) of the modern era. I was a Buddhist monk in Thailand for a few months and the experience has permanently turned me into a better and happier person. Way back in the days, I had the awesome privilege of being taught, while on retreat, by the revered Ajarn Buddhadasa. In the evenings after the retreat at Wat Suan Mokkhe, we would be awed by inspirational taped recordings of A. Chah & A. Sumedho. ❤
That is awesome! I would have loved to be alive, when Ajahn Buddhadasa or Ajahn Chah were giving their lectures. I had the pleasure to get teachings from Ajahn Po in Suan Mokh International Dharma Heritage. Great place!

I've been immensley fortunate to have stayed at both Amaravati and Chithurst several times down the years. It leaves you with a huge respect for those who walk the path as monks and dedicate their lives to peace and harmony. The Thai Forest tradition is very beautiful and changed my life in nothing but positive ways 🙏
The sheer amount of people Ajahn Sumedho has blessed thanks to his teachings on this planet is incredible, I for one am di grateful for his devotion and teachings. He will turn 89 this week of 27 July 2023 🙏🏻 Shame about all the ads in a Buddhist video ...

I'm from Northern Thailand and I've never seen this VDO before. I really wonder if those two monks; Ven.Vipassi and another monk had already disroped or still remain as monks. Actually one shouldn't to torture oneself by taking one meal a day. You can take to a middle way; taking two meals a day -breakfast and lunch.
As long as one is not attached to food it doesn't really matter how often one eats. I assume one meal a day is very convenient in a pragmatic sense of a monks lifestyle. And also it is less work for the supporters of the monks.
