I had the good fortune to see Grover live six months before he passed. It was a dream for me to see and hear the man I'd worshiped for decades play. He did not disappoint. What was even more amazing than his musicianship was the sense you got that he was happy to be playing for you. A musical genius. A nice man.

Love this. While I was going into surgery I asked for Music. And it was this Great sound. Thank you. I will continue to listen to it until my last days. Love it

I think Grover Washington Jr has been gone longer than this post 10 years ago. He passed in December 1999. I remember buying his album back in 1974 for me, I'm an ol head😁 Loved Mr Magic ✨💗

Man talk about a great lineup! Grover, Steve Gadd, Eric Gale, Anthony Jackson. I still pull out those wonderful CTI records from time to time and they take me back to a much simpler and wonderful time in my life.

2024' still..the great Grover Washington was "Mister Magic" on that 🎷Sax! Had this album in my Jazz collection alongside other greats. When he passed on I 🥲 of sadness. The Congo🪘and bass 🎸 players took care of business. All the members together & individually make for a scorching🔥hot band... Loved his music madly❤❤❤...RIP 🥀

Mister Magicians all. I finally got to see Grover live, albeit probably his last road tour he came to Albuquerque. You could tell he didn’t have the lung vitality but his fans were so grateful to hear him play. Thank you Ralph Mcdonald you wrote a masterpiece.

Most of the comments are bringing a tear to my eye.........he is truly missed.

I grew up playing Texas blues, funk and soul and am a groove oriented drummer. My favorite drummer is Bernard Purdie and favorite groove is the half time shuffle which (depending on how it’s played) can be a very busy groove. Then there’s Steve Gadd… his grooves often take the opposite approach. He will use the space created by NOT hitting a drum or cymbal to accentuate a groove. Outstanding musician and an American treasure. As are all of these musicians. How awesome would it be to play with Grover! I am blessed to have been born in 70. Great video.

I am South African, I grow up my old brothers in the 70s played these songs, jazzing it up, in my music collection, I have these songs. Eric Gale, the guitarist, Adris Mohamed, Bob James, Quincy, King Curtis, etc.

I remember the day I heard that Grover had passed from a massive heart attack. I was a cop back then, working in Manhattan, generally annoyed & pissed off at how my life had turned out. The token clerk in the subway station had a radio inside the booth so when I heard the DJ cut in with the news, it crushed & staggered me nearly to my knees. I would've cried right there had I not been in public view. Grover had gotten me through some tough times when I was in college, struggling, & I remembered how inspired & uplifted he made me feel EVERY single time I heard him play. He could've p His band he needed tlayed the scales & I would've been moved. Guess God was a little short on sax players that day so called up Grover to come home. Our grievous loss.

His stint with his group ‘Stuff’ and his solo albums are still full of his skilled playing . Long live his sound , his music ,his talent. He needs to be honored.

Got introduced to jazz in college in 1980 and Grover was my first taste of the sweetness of smooth jazz ! ! Studied many a night with his music in the background. This music is timeless ! ! A true legend ! !
