Question thought u shouldn’t run ground wire from amp to the battery directly??? I have a popping noise from my speakers when I hit my air ride switch is this bad ground??
@sikbaggers
@sikbaggers 10 месяцев назад
Coils (fill, dump vavles and compressor relays magnatize and cause a voltage feedback every time they are turned off or on. That is known, What isnt so known is why some audio sytems pick up that noise so much better than others. Typically it is ground issue but not always. Its more common on systems that use RCA cables. that are ran from the head unit to the amps. But again, thats not always the case. First thing I do is eliminate all body grounds/frame grounds. Then I put a diode acorss the positive and negative wires feeding the coils. The diode I use is the 1N4005. The diode has a stripe on one side that must go to the positive wire. The closer they are to the vavle the better they will work. This si the diodes amzn.to/4a4mtEa ...this is apretty common issue on harleys after installing air ride. And this is the fix everyone uses.
@DoRC
@DoRC 3 года назад
Looks good. One thing you always want to disconnect ground first and reconnect it last on a battery. that way if you are connecting the positive connection and your tool or something happens to touch the frame or something that is grounded it won't short out.

Hog tunes sucks for the money, I’m a Rockford fosgate fan, they have plug and play and everything is so easy to install, kills me to hear guys pay for Harley install when they could have used the money for better equipment. Hey Tim...sorry I missed this comment man...But no its all the same inside there. Biggest pain is to get those pods out to change the speakers. other than that swap them out and use the eq on the head unit to make them sound as good as you can with no distortion at high volumes. Distortion causes heat and heat destroys speakers.

Real simple question before I take you're advice and try this install. My 2017 Ultra Limited has 2 Ohms speakers in the front and in the back. If I upgrade the wiring to all four speakers and install the new 8 Ohms in front and the 4 Ohms in the rear, I shouldn't run into any problem using the setup you're describing as long as I'm using my stock radio and I don't already have a factory amp installed. Would that be correct? Thank you for your time and the video's

Hi Steven great video. Question I'm upgrading my audio system in my 202 street glide special with new Boom Box radio, my Amp already comes with high line inputs foe each channel, How can determine which wire from the oem speaker wire is positive and which is the negative?
@sikbaggers
@sikbaggers 4 года назад
The larger spade on the bikes wiring will be positive ..but a simple test can be done to find positive. if you have a volt meter, put it on AC volts and touch it on the speaker connections to find + and -. If you get +12v that is correct, if you get -12v that is backwards. This will help you identify + and - on the speaker.

we dont use the ds18 speakers much anymore as they changed their basket design and pretty much wont fit anything any more...a great speaker for your bike with 5.25 to 6.5 inch convertors and one we use quite a bit for a fairing up grade is the PRV Shallow 6.5's and I get them from amazon here amzn.to/3J2qtc4 We have had great luck with these pro audio speakers. Im not sure on your amp set up or how many other speakers you have but if you are just doing the fairing these are awesome.

Sorry if this has been asked and answered…if I’m just planning on doing the 2 fairing speakers with the amp in your parts list do I go with the 4 or 8 ohm speakers?
@sikbaggers
@sikbaggers 8 месяцев назад
hey now worries ill try to explain it...if you get a 4 channel bridgable amp you and get the 8 ohm speakers and bridge the amp to 2 channel....meaning using all 4 channel on 2 speakers..that would bring the load down in half..from 8 ohm to 4 ohm draw from the amp. The amp should be 4ohm stable bridgeable amp. Adding more speakers later will effect this though. So make sure you only want the fairing speakers and never plan on adding more..if you do you will have to change the amp more than likely. There are a ton of variables that come into play.

Hi Steve have several questions and cannot find a utube that is specific to it... 1 - Do I have to use the Power Yellow and the Remote Blue cable if my Amp already has it ? Meaning all I will need to connect is the Speaker wire. 2 - I have the PAC LP7-4 L.O.C. PRO Series 4-Channel device, I'm only going to tap in the front speakers, so I will use 2 channel on the PAC, can I just twist the other two channels together ? Meaning I will use the White and Gray for the 2 channels, can I just twist the Green to the White and the Purple to the Gray for all 4 channels and then go all 4 channels to my amp RCA ? 3 - The the Gain on the PAC will only have the adjustment on one side which is the Right and Left Rear Or Front ? or would I need to adjust both Gains to the same ?

@sikbaggers 4 года назад
Thank you Danny...Much appreciated. The ds18s are a solid choice for the price rage for sure. They only issue I have found is there are no 8" mid bass speakers for the 8" lids. Now that being said adding anything that can handle bass is fine...in the parking lot. Riding down the road youre not going to hear that bass at all. So adding a a decent set of 8ohm speakers and getting a 4 ohm or 2ohm stable amp so you can bridge the amp and add more power to them is the best route for a clean, loud sound.

Dumb question, but where do you hook the ground wire and power wire for the amp
@sikbaggers
@sikbaggers Год назад
Hook your power wire straight to the battery. You can run the ground to the battery but I prefer to run it to the frame ground where the battery is grounded. Follow the black wire down under your starter from your battery. There is a 7/16th bolt that grounds your battery to the frame. remove that (its kind of tough to get to) and add your ground wire there. To make it easier to get to remove your oil dipstick, and the starter cover. Its on the end of your starter and one single small bolt in the middle. there is nothing behind it..its just a beauty cover. then you can access that bolt much easier. I hope this helps.

you would have tro butcher your pod pretty good to get that rubber surround on that magnet in there to fit. Its a decent speaker but its marine grade and these pods wont usually fit PRO Audio Marine Grades like that

Love the video and find it very helpful along with all the comments and questions -Thanks. I just purchased a set of AVB lowers with speaker pods for a 2018 SGS. I am planning to install DS18 Pro's in the lowers and switch out the upper fairing speakers to DS18 PRO also. I have a few questions if anyone would be willing to share; 1. Are the DS18 Pro's a good/best choice? 2. Should I get 4 or 8 ohm speakers 3. I am currently looking at the Rockford Fosgate TM400X2AD amp - is this a good choice? Thanks again

@sikbaggers 2 года назад
Hey Steve...If you get the shallow mount..your bike has stock holes for 5.5 inch speakers and you will need to get the 5.5 to 65 spacer adapter which takes away some room in between your speaker and the outer fairing. You may already have the adapter in there if you're running 6.5 now but that is what you have to watch for...gotta be able to get that outer fairing back on and not hit the agent of the speaker.

you are correct ...you can just cap those off...We usually dont remove any factory wires..just cap them in case down the road you or someone else may need them they are still there.

I have a 2021 Electra Glide Standard. This bike comes with no head unit or speakers. I am planning to do the exact set up you are doing here. My question is this the bike comes pre wired to plug my after market head unit directly into it. Since I am using the aftermarket head unit and its never had the stock head unit in it does it need to be flashed?

heavier gauge wire for the bigger amp...stock is 12. Use any online chart to see how much your amps is pushing vs how long the wire is and itll show you the gauge you need.

Rockford Fosgate PPS4-6 6.5" = 100 watts rms @ 159 a pair - PRV 6MR400 = 200 watts rms @ 100 a pair Just 2 examples...RF's are coaxial speakers...apples to oranges compared to Pro Audio and the Price of RF's is ludicrous for what you are getting.

Are you required to flash the radio with this setup? And if so what do you flash it to so I can ask the tech to flash something specific.
@sikbaggers
@sikbaggers 2 года назад
You can but you dont have to. Just set your radios bass and treble to flat in the middle and tune your amps..then you can make very minute adjustments to them. "flashing the radio really only flattens the radio out and turns on rear channels if you want them on...but this method its not necessary.

No,,,not with this basic amp install..doesnt really need it..now that being said if you plan on pushing more than 350 watts to each speaker then yes...or if you are using a DSP, then yes, flatten it. But this install is fine with this size amp.

@sikbaggers
@sikbaggers 4 года назад
Im not much of a boom audio guy but you can check your specs on your amps and try to stay in that spec range for your speakers. You want to stay in the watts and ohms range of that amp. I would say any pro audio speaker will be an upgrade form the boom stuff...Ive torn out a lot of boom audio...thousands of dollars worth and replaced it all with new amps and speakers..but if you are wanting to salvage the amps just find out the specs and stay in that range and pick a better speaker

@petelanzone484
@petelanzone484 3 года назад
If you are going to put in an AMP then yes, you will need it flashed to remove the factor set EQ. The thing is I do not think Harley will flash it any more as they will only do it if you go to thier BOOM upgrade. However, you can look up a fosgate certified shop in your area and they can flash it for you. If you do not get it flashed and you hook up an amp then it may pop and sound like crap. If you go with new fairing speaker then I would look at mmats or better yet if you are not into modifying pods look ath the Hertz SX165 NEO SPL for fairing speakers and they are weather proof. Also make sure you use oxygen free copper wire. NEVER use CCA for wiring. And you may want to consider a DSP DSR1 from fosgate especially when you go to rear speakers lids later on down the line. Look at the sound digita; evo x 800.4 amps. Great raw power,

@sikbaggers
@sikbaggers 3 года назад
The 2011 more than likely has the 5.25 inch fairing speakers, start there by getting some 5.25 to 6.5 inch speaker adapters off amazon for about 20 bucks...upgrade to a pro audio 6.5 speaker. PRV, Ground Zero, DS18 etc about 200 for a pair is a rough price on pro audio. ....get a Sound Digital 800.4 EVOX 4 channel amp. This is a pretty basic major fairing upgrade from what you have in the bike now. Those speakers are about 35 watt speakers...the pro audios will be around 200-300 watt speakers...you and your passenger wont have any trouble hearing this set up at 70mph half volume.

Assuming you are throwing the old speaker wire away due to fitment issues, why would you cut into the speaker wire on the bike side of the connector instead of the old speaker wire side of the connector? I would think it would be easier to remove a mod system and replace the old Harley speakers in the future if you want to take the good stereo with you to a new bike, but perhaps that wouldn’t be done?

Big zip ties with that amp...customer brought me that bike and the amp...its a little larger than the area provided but its a commonly used amp in touring models. I just zip tied each corner down tight...also if you want you can add some double sided tape to areas that touch so there is no rubbing. That bike is still rocking that amp today.

out of the radio speaker wires, (the pink wires) to the LOC, Out of the LOC to the amp, out of the amp back to the speakers. So the speaker wires that go from the radio to the speakers, you will cut that and add in the LOC and the amp and then reconnect it to the speakers.
