Your videos are very helpful. Thank you for doing them. I, too, am happy to see T Mobile doing this. I live in a small town of 2,700 in Northcentral Arkansas. I am averaging 100 Mbps download and 35 Mbps upload. That may not sound like much to most people, but my only choice for internet is dsl through my local telephone company. I had the top plan, which gave me up to 10 Mbps download and up to 1 Mbps upload. I think you can see why I am so excited by my numbers. Keep up the great work!!!
THANK YOU! I've gone months with either using a hotspot or just using my phone to do school because I didn't understand what the problem was, so I wasn't even sure what to look up. I finally realized maybe my computer isn't necessarily the only problem, since it was able to pick up other networks and not T-Mobile. Changing the transmission mode was the only problem! Thank you so much
Dude, you are freaking awesome. I just got one of those devices and tried playing Warframe, it was bad. I found your video and used your steps. Happy man over here! Thank you!
Bro thank you so much for your content it helped me decide on giving the T-Mobile home internet a chance and it worked out. I live in rural NC and internet has been pointless besides cellular. I mean I used to get 3-4 Mbps now I get it 25-200 mbps which is amazing but my only problem is it fluctuates from highs to basically crashing to .03 mbps. From what I understand it’s the towers deprioritizing my service since it’s home internet. The only way to fix is it to reboot it but I have to do this multiple times of the day... regardless when it’s working it’s a blessing until starlink comes 🙌🏽 keep up your content it’s interesting and very knowledgeable
Tyrese, glad its working out. When it drops to the near zero speed that is more likely a software issue. It seems these gateways have a memory leak and it "locks up" after a while. Thats why a reboot helps. Reboots should really change deprioritization. Be patient and bug customer service every once in a while, I think with firmware updates they will address these issues.
I also live in NC, more exactly, Shelby. I used to have spectrum internet and they were charging me $95 per month for 200 mbps so it was time to quit their service. I get 50 in the day and in the mornings/ nights I get up to 100 Mbps. For $50 it's ok, but I'm unsure that all my home devices would do with that especially when streaming, gaming, etc
I spent over 2 hours trying to get a new phone hooked up to my home internet. Frustrating! No help from T-Mobile! I watched your video and problem is solved. Thank you so much!
Hello Nater Tater - Thank you for your video. I was able to fix my no internet problem very quickly. You provided me with a quick fix that I could not find in any of the other youtube videos I watched. Thank you again for your great help and please continue to provide genuine information for all who need your assistance.
Thank you for posting this. I just moved to Arkansas in a rural area with not many options for internet. I found this through a flyer in the mail and then at work by advertisement. This thing it the BOMB ! I run all of my devises at home NO problem and I am a musician and a gamer and this guy is GREAT for all of this ...... except for one , lol. And that is exactly what you are talking about here. My laptop is not old but possibly older then the technology of this device and will not even show the Gateway in my list of available networks. I have tried everything I know to do and nothing, but , I am going to try this tonight and hopefully does the trick. thanks again, God Bless and Rock On !
I I bought this on Amazon to use as a stand for the T-Mobile gateway. Brand is Supertek Circular Tripod Stand for Laboratory, Steel, 127 mm x 230 mm (5” Diameter x 9" Height). I measured the inner diameter to be 3-1/8”, and the outer diameter to be 4-15/16”.
Appreciate your videos. T Mobile internet finally came to my area (los angeles) so I wanted to save on monthly internet. Was paying $64.99 a month with Spectrum. Anyways, using this is frustrating. For the first 4 days worked great. Now, there's times during the day it does not work. I can't do anything. Yesterday I probably lost at least 3 hours because it was so slow or didn't work at all. Anyways, just venting. Thanks for your videos.
Question I'm looking at the Orbi satellite, mesh wifi dual band 5g 90.00 Vs. the Google Mesh AC1200 Whole-Home WiFi System 3-Pack 125.00 which overall do you think would work better in a old double wide mobile home with 3 bedrooms looking for your reply, thanks for the great video as well,Kraig Also I can get the TP-link Deco S-4 3-pack for 114.00 on amazon to throw that into the mix as well.
Do you have any insight on changing the transmission mode for the ARC KVD21? I think this simple fix would solve my issue of my laptop not seeing the router but there are almost no settings available for the new hardware.
Wholesome dude. Read where a guy simply just connected to an extender and connected his laptop to the extender. If that doesn’t work, I’ll be trying this.
Just found your channel and appreciate the info. My tmobile changed Wednesday from nat 2 to nat 3. Tmobile said my tower was serviced. I have a ticket in with engineering but idk. I am disappointed in tmobile, idk why they changed the network on me.
Hi I'm having this problem 2 when I got my gateway I was getting nat type 2 on my Playstation 4 now I'm getting nat type 3 and I have tried to reset the gateway but it won't go back to 3 . Have you gotten any were with your gateway?
@@matthewholt9501 I am still nat 3. Tmobile claimed tower work/upgrade. Most of my games play ok. Voice chat can have issues but I am usally ok. Sticking with it for now but idk how much longer.
Thank you! I just got Tmobile internet and my old laptop didn't find the wifii dignal. Switching to b and renaming a new SSID with the new setting worked!
Great informative video. I recently got the T-Mobile home internet for my camp and my iPhone 13 and my Roku connected fine. My wife’s iPhone 12 sees the network but won’t connect. I created a 2nd network and it connects to that one. Tried deleting and setting up first network and still couldn’t connect. Reset network settings on her phone and still won’t connect to that one network but does connect to the 2nd one as well as our home network. Really odd.
Hi Nate! Thanks for your videos. I just got my Gateway a few days ago. The problem is with my laptop (Lenovo running Windows 10). The laptop says that it's connected to the Gateway Wi-Fi with speeds of 866 Mbps, but I can't open any websites on my Chrome browser. Do I need to change something in the encryption settings? Please help.
Hi Nater Tater, thank you. One buys a home internet with computer all over the place and none can connect, because there is nothing to connect. followed your suggestion, n/g, boom, network not only appeard, but appeared and was connected. would be so kind to link me to your router mesh. I have a good router, but not sure how to use it. Right now all computers in one place connect by the ethernet. Now I can go mobile in the home woith the laptop and I can connect conputers to wi-fi. Thank you.
Hi there, I just watched your video, I live in Arizona, I didn't have problems hooking up the T-Mobile Gateway, but am having big troubles connecting my printer, which is a Canon- PIXMA MX922. It would be simple, simon, like all the RU-vid videos say, if the Gateway had the WSN button, but alas, it does not. Any suggestions??? Thank-you!!!
My screen doesn't look like yours so I'm not able to change the wifi settings to add my old ipads to the network. I just got it hooked up today. Did they change their platform?
Hello just had a quick question. I got the tmobile home internet yesterday and I was wondering why I can not connect my xbox one s to the 5ghz network.?. In the tmobile home Int. App I switch the setting to 5ghz and on the xbox it doesn't even show or pop up the network name, but if I change the setting in the app back to 2.4ghz,5ghz (automatic) and try to go to connect to wifi on the xbox it shows the network name and it signs in with the 2.4ghz. I have excellent signal all 5 bars, I would really love to use the 5ghz on the xbox. Ive even hardwired it with a wired ethernet cord and its slower than ****. I'm not tech savvy but its driving me crazy. Lol.. If you would have any advice it would be appreciated.. __Also when I try to go to the site u mention in your vid, just like u did it takes me to a page like the app would look like and tells me to download that, which I already do.. Can u no longer use that page anymore since they have the app now? I apologize for the ramble.. Hope it makes sense.. Thank you in advance. Cheers 🍻
It could be due to the encryption type or the channel bandwidth. You can adjust those in the app. You want WPA2 encryption. If that is already set then try lowering the 5Ghz bandwidth to 20 or 40 Mhz. However for most speeds 2.4Ghz is more than capable and if your speed is slow via ethernet too then 5Ghz wont help. They want you to use the app now, not the website.
Nate, i just got the t mobile system, I was using spectrum and I was paying too much, anyway, it's working good my only problem is occasionally my deco mesh 5 and my blink cameras gets offline, and I have to unplug the gateway and plug it back and everything goes back to normal. I wonder if you experience that? Do you have any advice?.
Is that after follow this video's advice? Changed bandwidth to 20? Another option is to separate out the 2.4 and 5 Ghz band into unique SSID's and pick which ones to connect to.
@@NaterTater no, i havenr change any settings on the gateway, i just saw this video and you sound like you know that's why I was asking you for your advice.
Like I mentioned before I have a tp link mesh M5 system, one is connected to the gateway via Ethernet cable to the gateway, so you can turn off the wifi of the gateway by disabling the SSID's and I can used my mesh connected to the gateway as router. I'm not extremely knowledgeable about this things though lol.
Thank you !! The manufacture just kept telling me my Roborock would not work with T Mobile Gateway 5G. Changed the 2.4G just as you showed and problem solved. Please keep making the videos. Thanks again.
I have the Nokia Gateway for my home internet. Recently, I found that my Roomba vacuums no longer connect to the cloud thru the gateway. Both Roombas are on 2.4GHz and have been for two years. After going through tech support with that company, to no avail, I tried something on my own. I plugged my old router into the lan port of the gateway and set the I-robot to use routers 2.4GHz band and the vacuums synced right up. They work correctly through a router but not directly to the Nokia Router. Could there be something that is failing in my Gateway? T-Mobile will send me a new or nearly new gateway but I was hoping you may have an idea about this failure. THX
you just need to separate out the 2.4ghz and 5ghz wifi on the nokia so they have different SSID wifi names. Then the roomba can connect to the 2.4ghz wifi.
I have a problem that my older Brother printer will not connect to the internet. I thought it might have to do with the updated 6 wireless. TMobile has not been able to help, nor has Brother. I followed your instructions and was not able to print after changing and saving the changes. First I tried B, which was a choice. It did not work, then I tried n/g as that was the only choice with n. That did not seem to work either. I do have a Netgear router on the system that is hooked up to the network and the Netgear. When the gateway was first hooked up, it seemed that everything worked. Then suddenly this week the printer does not. Another printer, computers, phone etc all work. Any suggestions?
Hi Nate I just found your video and I just got a new T-Mobile internet gateway My problem is I have an older Chromecast it says it's connected but I cannot Chromecast to the TV even though it says it's connected you have any solutions
your chromecast and phone/device need to be on the same wifi band. The old chromecast is likely only 2.4ghz so you need to have the bands separated and both connected to 2.4ghz.
Off topic, but I had a surprise with my T mobile home internet speed, still on the same B2/n41. After my first two months, starting mid-June, where my peak download speed was 190, and I got that only a few times (a usual high download speed was more like 170 for me), all of a sudden one morning just over a week ago I had a bunch of speed tests over 200. Then this morning I rotated the can 180 degrees, still in its best place on the window sill facing the tower, and hit a new peak of 355Mbps, with a bunch of tests over 300. I figure they must have done some tuning of their equipment. So my average download speed is 100Mbps faster than it was for the first 2 months. At 5 miles away from the tower in my rural area, I think this much speed is pretty rare. BTW, my upload speeds are the same, 10 to 30 most of the time. Your channel is the one I most often point people to regarding Tmobile home internet issues, because you've covered all the practical and most useful tips like no one else.
Hi Nate, Why does this gateway have SSID1- SSID4 for 2.4GHz? Do I need to enable broadcast for all 4 of them to improve reliability and reduce drops? Thanks!
That's part of wifi 6 protocol. By default all 4 are enabled but they only broadcast the SSID and your device automatically connects to the best one. Broadcast means the wifi is visible to devices but turning off broadcaat does not disable the ssid, it just hides it from devices.
Been playing with trying to get an Asus RT-AC66U to connect to the T-mobile 5GHz channel in media bridge mode. Asus router does not see it as a network option to connect to, even though other devices do and can connect to it with no problem. Would like to put the T-mobile device in a better location where it gets better signal and use 5GHz wireless back haul to a lower level in the house where I could plug in wired devices. In my best location, I get 300/60 on average, so figuring this out would be amazing. Ever tried media bridge mode to connect to the T-mobile gateway?
I think you need a way to press a WPS button (virtual or physical) on the gateway to do that. Not a way. But you could hook up a asus via ethernet to the gateway and then aimesh to your tv spot with a 2nd asus router. Thats effectively what i do.
@@NaterTater I was thinking the air mesh would use the 5GHz channel, only leaving the 2.4GHz free to connect devices to. Is that incorrect? I have a primary router I use on 1st floor, everything in the house connects to it, including a NAS USB drive. The best spot in the house is in an upstairs bedroom by a window. I could locate the Tmobile router there and connect the AC66U there, but I'd need the primary router on 1st floor to hand out IPs. Just needed a way to get the "internet" to the WAN port on my primary. I was going to connect port 1 on the AC66U to WAN on my primary router once in bridge mode to accomplish this.
Hi, your videos are very helpful, but I have a connection issue, was wondering if you could help? My T Mobile gateway has a TP link router hardwired, every 5-6 days the router drops off, and I have to reset both. Thanks for any help.
Hey Nate we got the 5g gateway about a month ago and have a cellphone booster to help it along. Originally we had issues setting up because it read “all pdn connection failure”, however was able to get around that by turning the gateway 180 and factory restarting the unit. But about a week ago the gateway completely lost connection. Just curious if you knew anything it may be?
So I do console gaming and mostly alot of streaming for movies and tv the movies and tv streaming works great. The gaming part when I download games its awesome chat is good but when I go to play games I get lag or spikes unless I restart the modem before every game. I pretty much found the perfect spot in my place i usually get a ping of about 30-50 but should I get an external router would that help with me not having to restart it everytime? Would it lower my ping?
You cannot, you can on Verizon Home Internet. But it looks like t-mobile black arcadyan kvd21 gateway is more compatible with VoIP phones than the Nokia.
Man thaaaaaank you a lot, been having problem with this a lot. quick note, if my old device works with both, n/g is better than b/g right? also I'm really excited to hear that we can use our own wifi mesh with this. thanks again.
I'm glad I watched this I just signed up for T-Mobile home net and I know I got devices that are 2.4 G only and was actually wondering if you could do this. thanks for the Preemptive save Nater Tater. Edit: Nice chair BTW I saw it pop you down at the end LOOL
How do you separate the 2.4 and 5ghz bands... does it just auto choose the frequency the device connects to? Because my tv only supports 2.4 and my phone and xbox connect to 5ghz, both are being used
@@NaterTater ahh okay, I was paying 150 for cox.. canceled it and got this, currently only averaging a out 60mbps down but it's handled streaming live sports and movies just fine, even playing COD on Xbox series x.. does lag at times but nothing that would prevent me from playing, 50 bucks with autopay no regrets so far.
Hi Nate, I'm enjoying your channel. I was able to see the gateway using the 192.168.12.1 address but I must have missed something on Logging in. Used admin and the password off the bottom of the device but it replies Login Failed. Double checked the password and the admin was in lower case. What am I doing wrong. Thanks!
I was able to fix the issue and your instruction works. Awesome! Thank you! I am wondering, do you know how to use the mesh option with the T-Mobile Home WIFI? Thank you!
The mesh option isn't currently available with the gateway. I and many others use our own mesh network "behind" the gateway (plugged in via ethernet to the gateway)
How long should it take for T-Mobile to upgrade a 5G tower to make it better? my 5G gateway has been so slow for about going on 3 weeks now no matter how much I reboot.
Nate, your videos on the new tmobile home internet are really helpful. I got mine last week and had an easy setup, home network is pretty simple with a few nest cameras and iPad/iPhone. I’m probably a light user since in just use internet and streaming. The only problem I have had is with my chromecast devices to a couple of TVs. I did hook up my old router and seems to work but wondering if there is a way to just use my TMobile gateway wifi and no router. Thanks in advance if you have any suggestion. ~Diane
Hey Diane. Many people have reported issues with google devices. I have several google devices too. You can try turning off WMM in the webui settings on the gateway to see if that fixes your issue.
@@NaterTater I’m not sure how to do that, is that using the gateway address rather than the app? I can sign on to it using admin and the # on bottom of my gateway but not sure where to turn off the WMM. Thanks for your quick reply! My new chromecast device works fine with connecting to TMobile but the older one (generation 1) only works when I connect my old Netgear router.
Maybe this will help someone else too. I checked on end of my older 1st gen Chromecast stick and it uses the ‘b” transmission mode. Under wifi 2.4 GHz. Now both are working fine. Not sure if the WMM helped or not. Thank you so much!! Your videos are excellent. BTW, my signal strength is only 2 bars but about the same performance as xfinity and for less per month at $50. Engineering has an open ticket to help boost my signal strength…I’m in a small condo but I tried every spot possible and used your tips as well. I get a small spike to 3 bars in 2 spots but it doesn’t last. I may try looking at your other video for quality but for now I’m super happy!
Have you noticed any interference with your existing wifi mesh network? seems that any 2.4ghz devices (switches, ring doorbell) anywhere near the device keep losing wifi connectivity.
I tend to leave the gateway wifi off. If you need occasional wifi connectivity to it you could just leave a (or all) 5Ghz SSID's active and disable the rest.
I've had one of these for about 6 months and generally it has been very good. Recently, however, it's dropping Wi-Fi calls, the call initiates fine but after about a minute the other person can't hear me, I can hear them, really strange. Any thoughts?
It is connected to a network via the network plug to another router. The problem exists whether I'm on the T mobile directly or on the remote wired router.
I've had the T-Mobile Home Internet (Nokia) for almost a year now and the same problem since day one. The wifi usually every other day stops working. My phone says it's "connected without internet" and no devices get internet. So I have to reset it and it's becoming an inconvenience. Should I turn off the wifi and buy an external router? If you could reply it would be greatly appreciated!
any fixes for troubleshooting Tmobile internet with FUBO TV? Tmobile wifi (hot spot) and FUBO not recognizing home network. I have 2 smart tv ( ROKU and Samsung) and 2 locations within the same house. I am not that technical, but I have been told by FUBO that because tmobile internet is a hot spot it might be using 2 IP addresses and that is why FUBO cant recognize a home network on both TVs.
I'm not sure I follow your question but I'd try doing what this video says and splitting your 2.4ghz and 5Ghz wifi SSID's to two different names. Then connect both TV's to the same band, probably 2.4Ghz and see if that fixes the problem.
After having the service for a couple of days I have to reset the modem once a day. The speed drops down from 350-300 to 40-70 range. Happens everyday. After reading a few posts, it looks like it gets stuck on LTE. Only way to fix is restart. Curious if anyone has a fix? Haven't called T-Mobile yet. When speeds are there it works great.
Help! I just signed up for this & really want it to work; however, I received the new arcadyan & had tremendous speeds of 100-200 mbps when it would work but it would not stay connected. So I was told it did not have the latest firmware & to exchange it at my local store for the Nokia, which does have the latest firmware. However, the nokia has speeds of only 5-10 mbps but stays connected, unlike the arcadyan. I am only 2.5 mi away from the nearest tower. Should I go back to the arcadyan because the speeds were great when it worked but multiple times all day long it would disconnect itself?? Do they not make a device that actually does what they say it does?
I've had T Moble for a month now. All my devices will disconnect at the same time at least once a day. My apps say I have wyfi, but no internet. I useally have to repower. Do you have a video fix for this?
I guess I'm not following (or don't remember what I said or didn't say in this video...haha), do you have an older TV that has wifi and you're having trouble connecting to the T-mobile home internet gateway's wifi?
Hey, I keep having a similar but different problem. It will just kick all devices off randomly and not connect back any so I can’t even connect one device to edit the menu. It has done this before like 3 times but before it would just fix itself by turning it off and on.
Greetings! I have a question I'm having trouble figuring out. I have TMobile internet and I'm trying to connect my Google Chromecast but it says I must disable ap isolation. I have been trying to figure it out and I'm at a loss what to do.
did you separate your 2.4GHz and 5Ghz wifi channels? If not try that. Also, make sure your chromecast and the device you are casting from are on the same one (ie the 2.4Ghz wifi). My google chromecast works.
mr.tater, I just got my 5G gateway yesterday - the software is really bad, no, useless. I need to turn off the wireless and port the internet to my Asus Wifi router so that I can set up my WD NAS drive with a fixed IP address which is not supported in the gateway. I spent 8 hours yesterday and nite, trying to make it work. No Joy. The main computers say I have internet, but it is not functioning. I am using a laptop to access the 5G gateway. I have a cat5 cable going from the 5G router to the internet jack on the Asus router. But even though the computers say there is internet service - it no worky. Can you possibly make a video to help us intermediate users make this work. Many of us out here use a NAS drive that requires a fixed IP. Thanks in advance.
I use an Asus mesh system hooked to t-mobile home internet and I use some fixed IP's. I have many videos on this service, check out videos of interest T-Mobile Home Internet 5G 4G LTE Wireless: ru-vid.com/group/PL8d9FovK2dNQHp0KWk8gG8XXvaKzaoSB3
My unit acts very strangely. Some times internet drops (still has 3 bars) and wifi stays connected. Sometimes it will then re establish a connection within minutes or not at all. I believe its having wifi issues, not 5g issues. I even purchased a fan to blow under it to see if it helps. I even changed my wifi to n instead of ac. This halved my bandwidth to 200mbps. I still get d/c. The time it takes to re establish a connection has improved, however. In the wifi stats it shows Sent Errors 11105.
I have a gateway and at the beginning was working fine, but as the months go on seems that the connection is getting worse and worse. What should I do?
That could be congestion as more people get the service. It could be the gateway itself, adding and antenna can help or getting a new gateway. Also placement is key to the best signal.
Hello!! When I plug the 5g gateway, it doesn't come on!! I'm not able to find it to hook up to it on my phone!! I got in February but I decided to unbox it 4/7/23....When I took it out, they say a red light suppose to come in at the top but it didn't come on!! Please help me bc TMobile don't know what they're doing sending me to department to department for 4 hours!!
Went from 50 mbps on the slow side to 150mps average. 3 weeks ago it went down to .5 mbps and t-mobile has been “fixing it” for 3 weeks now. Everything was fine for 5 months. Help.
Thats a bummer! I've had them doing work in my area twice and it affected speed for 1.5 to 2 weeks. I'd talk yo customer support again. And also ask for a discount on this month's bill.
I couldn’t pass through login part and I’ve tried everything: the info on the box and my account info and network name and password in all possible variations still no luck... any advice on that?

Thats connected to wifi but not the internet. Either a configuration issue or t-mobile network issue. You could try setting a custom DNS server on your laptop to see if that restores website access.
My laptop connected when I changed transmission mode to “g” but only stayed connected about 2 minutes. Now I am seeing “Can’t connect to this network”. I’ve got the connection back 2 or 3 times but each time it drops after a minute or so. Any help?
Can try renaming the 2.4ghz and 5ghz bands and only connect to the 2.4ghz with your laptop. By default both are the "same" wifi and the device and gateway pick the "best" connection automatically. Sometimes that doesnt work well with older devices.
Sounds like you should do a factory reset on the gateway. Regarding stations (or towers/cells/bands) it auto selects so not a whole lot you can do to tell it to connect to a specific one.
It's all dependent on your location and namely the tower you are connected to. Upgrades/maintenance or congestion on your tower could be a cause. Some other issues may be solved with a gateway restart (use webui).
I’ve had mine for a few months now. I was getting anywhere from 60-80 mbps consistently up until a couple days ago. All of a sudden I have no 5g connection at all and my device is stuck switching between the same 2 bands. It switches back and forth every couple seconds, and it’s giving me tons of packet loss and fluctuating download speeds. I’m guessing they’re doing maintenance or upgrades on the closest tower but if I could get the router to stay on 1 band it might actually be usable.
Sounds like tower upgrade. Great news long term but sucks for now. Can take a couple weeks to complete. You could message/call them. Try moving the gateway around the house to see if it will stay on a single band.
The Tmobile ip connects but the page i see is tottally different than what you show I only see support tab and home tab which has no options This tmobile network does not even show in wifi connection list on this one lap top which i use to use frequently before with cox internet This lap top connects to tmobile hot spot on my phone What is the fix for this issue?
