Got the tall grey Modem/Router in December. Got as high as 310 download, but I average between 275 and 290 in my third floor apartment in the city. About 21 upload. I'm very happy with it.
My old Cube died on me Monday. Verizon sent me a new one. Customer service said the one they're sending me is better. I did some research from the receipt they sent me, and it's the same as the one in this video. FedEx delivered it today. I'll hook it up when I get home from work. It definitely has more options than my old device.
I just received and set up the ASK Model. I kept my existing router because it had all my settings and port forwarding set up, so I set it up for PassThrough. The light turns green for PassThrough. I didn’t want to spend any time setting the ASK up. I bought the Plus plan and I get about 300 mbs down and 50 up. Overall, Im pleased, especially with the savings. $45 instead of $99 with my cable company. If you have a security system and central station, you must cut the firewall to minimum or it will not communicate.
Please let me know when you do a disassembly and if external antenna can be hooked up to it, right now my speeds are very slow. Thank for the great videos!
I received the new Verizon router about 3 months ago. I ended up opening it up and adding external antennas to the router. I'm not sure if I connected the external antenna to the right ports. I tried them all in different orders until I got the best signal. I was getting 20 to 30 up speed now I get 250 to 300 pretty consistently. I am excited to see what you find out when opening the router up. I did not find a SIM card inside. Also, there are little torx screws on the bottom that you need a long skinny torx screwdriver for. Good luck!
I only have a 2 x 2 antenna and found these ports give me the best signal. It bounces between 1 bar and 2 on the front display. The little torx screws are hard to see. Do not take the Phillips screws out. You will also need 4 little tab holders you need to use to hold them open so you can slide the top up and off
Great to hear! We'd love to see a couple photos or even a short video of how you did it. I know you won't take it apart again just to help us, but if you have any media you could link to, that would be amazing. :)
Thanks Nater..I live in the Atlanta suburbs and ONLY have ATT 25mbs available where I live.. no cable.. no fiber.. I am weighing which 4/5G services I will get. This video is a great start to my search
@@NaterTater Oh, I have a landline otion. ATT 25mbs for 80 a mont. Too high of a price fopr something that goes out several times a year and has taken up to a week to repair. I went with the Verizon plan. 180mbs with stock router and antennas.. Thanks Nate
Hey Nate, After using Wireshark and logging into the Unify UDM SE via ssh and viewing the ports I discover DHCP v6 is broken. I configure the Cr200a gateway for stateless mode for IPV6 and then into passthru mode. I then set the UDM internet port to single network and slack for IPv6. This should work for Ask, ARC ect. Hope this helps those that don't want to double nat ipV4. Other than Verizon enablig DHCP V6 and giving us a /56 "i would not hold my breath" this should work with other devices llike OPsense or other routers that allow these setting. Spent a day figurung this out. Cheers
Thanks for this video, I do not have the new gateway, I have the ASK, and I haven't gone into the settings for like a year, the firmware has been updated and this is what it looks/functions like now, minus the extra features of the new gateway. ...I've had the t-mo and Verizon, and was using the t-mo primarily because Verizon didn't have 5G yet here and so I set it up my router in bridge mode with the V unit, long story short, and now that I'm getting consistent results with the Verizon HI I've unplugged the t-mo and want to go all out with the Verizon gateway, I am a little confused best way to set it up with the new firmware so that the router is doing as much work as possible to keep the gateway doing the least it needs to do to keep it running smooth (and cool), I have the wifi turned off, and the radios turned off. Now I have the ip for the router and, as I said, it's in bridge mode, so, I'm trying to think how to best to set it all up, you mentioned the new DMZ settings, and I'm just a bit overloaded after watching the go through of all the settings. (I tried watching the how to set up a router vid, but, since the firmware is nothing like that anymore, I got slightly confused what to do). ...I'm about to rewatch the router vid, but, any tips would be greatly appreciated.
I guess i found the network mode LTE B1 (FDD 2100MHz now. SO you helped me make faster from say 20 MBPS to 60MBPS down and up now almost balance in a LTE B1 (FDD 2100MHz band. I appreciate you NaterTater!! a lot., I got a lot more on your table!! so Thank you!!! Fresh from the Philippines here.
@@NaterTater yeaaah!! haha. I've done it while inside my room coz mine is the wireless type. Doing it without Antena, in my room, where I usually get 14 to 20 mbps, then made it to 50 mbps after the modification of the MTU. Guess what after I put it in the stronger spot in my house, it gave me to up to, 70+ mbps. Amazing.
I have had the ASK model gateway for about a year now. Sometimes it drops connection or the speeds just drops. Usually it’s the full 300/20. The other day I finally got Verizon to send this newer WNC gateway. Is there any reason to keep the older ASK model over this new one?
I have the white box. I just had Verizon send me a WiFi extender but I was wondering how i can boost the connection to receive better speeds. The fastest it has gone was about 150mbps and that was when I was in the same room with the cube and not in the back room in my house. How can I boost my cube speed? What device will I need if the extender doesn’t help? Would appreciate a response, thank you.
I have this gateway from Verizon and am using my own router. Is using ip passthrough my best way of doing this? The gateway seems to lose internet about once a week using ip passthrough and needs rebooted.
Thanks for the update nate! Do you think its worth contacting verizon for an upgrade to the new unit using LTE? My area doesn't have 5G but the verizon rep got me hooked up on the 5G plan.
Will this be for people who get a top tier plan or depending where you live? I also have the arc version of the modem with the e-sim will it be better to get a signal booster or external antenna for me. I live in rural area and the tower shows that it’s in the next town over from what Verizon app showed and also the website showed.
We have the "ASK" model and we troubles connecting to 5g out here sometimes despite getting -92 on 4g. We had a lot better luck with the "ARC" model staying on 5g but haven't tried this new "WNC" model yet. Has anyone else had similar results with the other two or have any better luck with this new one not falling off 5g?
I have Verizon gateway business. Would you suggest taking the sim out and placing it in an invisagig? How would I best connect my Verizon gateway to use together with my Starlink as a fail safe?
I would probably use the Verizoj gateway and plug it and the starlink into a router designed for multi-WAN. Here's how I combine 6+ WAN together on a single router: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FugYABcOkTE.html
I activated in December and they sent me the arc, there was no option for the new grey one even though I activated with the highest tier plan. I was hoping they would change it to the grey one even though at activation it showed the arc. It’s weird that on the website it lists this new grey one as being mmwave capable but the fcc docs and others have reported it doesn’t actually switch over to mmwave. At least the free wifi extender they offered and sent has wifi 6 since it’s the same extender they use for fios.
@@NaterTater can’t find the specific link right now but in the comparisons page on Verizon it specifically said the WNC-CR200A was capable of mmwave. They sent me the ARC but since I’m paying for the higher tier service I ordered their $400 router wifi extender for free at no extra cost that has wifi 6E. Still bummed I didn’t get the grey gateway though as it’s what’s pictured all over their home page.
@@NaterTateryeah their extender honestly sucks as an extender, it takes too long to switch over. Luckily it’s technically just a router so I got around it with IP pass through and using it as the main wifi router.
@Nater Tater - great info. I just ordered V Home Plus. Yesterday I received the older cube in your vide. I would have thought V would send me the new/latest CR200A gateway you demo'd (better WiFi as I have a big 3600 sq foot/2 story home.) Q: Did you say the new one gateway is limited to 100 down and 10 up - load speeds vs the white cube 300 down and 20 up and above? I know with the Home "Plus" they quoted me and I purchased (more expensive Service w Plus) 300 down loads / 20 up - were quoted min here in Central Texas. Thank you? (Was wondering if they are dumping the older versions now till all old stock is depleted)? "I don't go to Verizon and expect to receive an older phone shipped , when I make a purchase".
All the carriers offer multiple gateways and you often dont get to pick. The plan you are on is what affects your speed, the gray and white gateways can get the same speed.
I had the small cube and now the tower one and just recently theyve been jist dropping signal and jave no connection. Idk how to fix this and verizon is not help
Does the Guest Network limit the connected users speed? I don't see a QoS setting either, does this mean the guest does not use QoS? Reason I ask is i'm troubleshooting a Packet Loss and Latency issue and wanting to know if the moving the other devices to the guest may help if I move them to the guest.
I haven't seen that but I do use my own tp-link omada setup (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-34NZwJh4N84.html) and it certainly has those capabilities. Have you confirmed that the packet loss is in your wifi/LAN and not your cellular/ WAN?
@@NaterTater I had them replace the 5G router. I don't know if its my network or the cellular network. They did replace my cube with the newer model even though I do not have the Hi-band. I get 300Mb D own and 40 Up all day long. Even when I'm seeing the Packet Loss and Latency issues when gaming. I know its not my hardwired laptop because it didn't occur when i connected to my phone hot spot and tested. I know I can shut down my wifi network and test the cellular network while gaming. That will be my next test i guess. But, it still could be the cellular network.
can you do a tutorial on how to make this a modem , I'm getting 50mbps on the actual verizon router. So went to buy a netgear router Nighthawk and i wanna make the verizon one as a modem and hopefully that will help me with the speed. I kinda already set it up but i feel like i did it wrong bc i just connectted it and it gets the same 48mbps
I finally got the new Verizon gateway and it's getting 300mbps down and everything is fine. My question is: Fiber with 1GB-2GB will be available in our area within the next couple of weeks and wondering if I would see that much difference getting the Fiber over the Verizon gateway?
Thanks Nate for all your hard work. I have a camera system that needs a static ip to view away from home. How would I be able to access my cameras when I switch to either of the Verizon cubes? Currently I have DSL and I am going to switch to Verizon. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
@NaterTater yes. I was asking if you knew the process for enabling the new device. Just call vzw and tell them I have a new device and to enable it, or can you do it yourself?
I just received the new 200a, haven't installed yet, but can you use a Eero 6+ mesh system? Not sure if I need this but I have a large 2 story house (3000 sq ft)?
why are people wanting to add the mimo antaneas when verizon hard caps the boxes? am i missing something here? what if you are getting the 300 down and 20 up from the box itself?
I got a question anywhere I put the box I always get 1 bar for internet do you know the reason why??? I tried to move it to a different window it still does not work.. does the amount people connected mess it up…
lots of factors play into the signal strength. Try placing the unit outside to see if your house construction/siding/windows degrades the signal. Try many different spots and place it where it gets the best signal.
Awe man, I wouldn't mind getting that grey box but we moved locations and according to the Verizon site, our new address doesn't qualify for the 5g wifi. Ironically, I'm still using our 5g wifi router and it gets a better signal than where we were before. I'm wondering how to get my hands on this without having to speak to a rep and they find out we aren't in the previous location and shut down the internet access....lol.
I just tried getting the Grey tower, they told me I only qualify for the white cube and there was no way of getting the grey one. It goes off a system that tells them which one to give to us depending on our location. So maybe telling them a different address might work…
I also couldn’t get the FIOS 5G at my location, I did some research and found a post on Reddit someone used a random address, closest to them that gets this service and it worked. I tried it and worked like a charm 👍🏼. Verizon gave me a choice of in store pick up and delivery. (I picked in store pick up) They even let me choose a delivery address. Hope that helps! 😊
Hello Nate, I currently have the VZ Gateway WNC-CR200A. I have my google router plugged in the LAN2 port. I turned on the IP PassThru option and is working well. However, I want to change it back and use the Gateway box as the router and take out the google router. Could you please tell me what steps I need to do? Thanks in advance.
Does the new Gateway just have better wider coverage? My dad has the older cube one, but he only gets like 30-40 mbps download. I am not sure if that will be the highest based on where his house is (location-wise) no good cell service in general.
Oh boo!!. Are there different cell phone towers.. one used for cell service and one used for their WIFI? I was told that they needed to have new ones for the home internet service. I guess the real question is, if you have bad cell phone service in your area, will that mean you will have bad cell phone service for home internet? @@NaterTater
Anyone seeing any issues with the distance of their antenna causing signal degradation for the modem itself? I've read that the closer the device (shortest cable) to the antenna, the better. Whats the average fall off of signal after a certain point, does anyone know?
Yes, it varies by type of cable and what band (freq) signal. I go through that in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Dndcn4a8N2w.html
I am located in Las Vegas and I previously had the ASK gateway and was getting 250+ mbps. I cancelled service and then signed up again later and was issued the WNC-200A gateway and my speeds are now about 100-110 mbps even though I'm on the same 5G Home Plus plan that claims speeds up to 300 Mbps. Is there any way to fix this? I was very surprised that the superior gateway gets way slower speeds than the "inferior" ASK gateway.
@@NaterTater Awesome--thank you very much. The service in my TMO home internet gateway has gotten bad. They seemed to have tuned the local network and I get very slow service even with the Waveforms.
@bobpacheco5052 sorry to hear it took a turn for the worse. Could just be tower congestion if lots of others got tmo as well. Verizon is better at not being slowed due to congestion but they do hard throttle the base plan.
Yes factory default on ubiqui Factory default on new Verizon box Note when I plug Verizon into computer directly it works fine, seems conflicting ip issue
Are you plugging into the WAN port on the ubiqui? You can change the ip address of the ubiqui to be different than 192.168.1.1 that the Verizon is. See ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-GKbBI38MML8.html

I recently moved and at my old place of living I had got 200-300 down 20-30 up but after moving not even 10 minutes of driving away, my speeds went to 20-30 down and 1-3 up. We called them and they sent us a new box but it’s basically the same, any help?
If you have a grandfather home internet plan don't cancel it because the new plans are hard capped at 100 (5g home) and 300 (home plus) amd you can't get it back
so, I'm trying to set up my own router to do the DHCP and I am having Double NAT issue. In this video you skipped the DNS Server settings. But, anyway, so after watching the using your own router with Verizon HI video, which had the old firmware, I turned off the DHCP server by going to network connections/network server/settings/ and IP Address Distribution, changed from DHCP to disable and that isn't enough, I still have double NAT error on my router. I have it set to a static IP and have DMZ set to the router for 4 & 6. What am I missing? The gateway says it's in "Bridge" mode. I did not change the IP Passthrough, it is not turned on, this is the only thing I can think of. (wifi and radios are turned off already in the gateway.) ...wait, do I need to change the wired connection to the router from LAN port 2 on the gateway? I'm going to try that.
OK, lots going on here. First, it sounds like you might have DNS and DHCP/NAT mixed up somewhat. If the V gateway has DHCP enabled then that is a NAT layer. But if you don't have DHCP enabled then your router won't get an IP address and you'll have to assign one. Or you can use thr V gateway ip passthrough. But...what is your objective?
@@NaterTater I’m trying to use the gateway as a modem and use the router as a router, take as much load off the gateway as possible. Also can’t have a guest WiFi network with my router in bridge mode. …so is ip pass through ok now? I don’t want to use that if it’s still having issues, but, if it’s no longer having issues is that the way to go?
…I was really just trying to follow your use your own router video but the firmware is very different now. (The firmware on my ASK gateway is the same as you go through in this video)
@benji888578 i have heard of intermittent issues with IPPT so I havent gone back to it. I prefer DMZ. Turn off dhcp on the v gateway and set its and you routers WAN IP address on the same subnet. Ie 192.168.0.xxx and make your router dhcp address range something different like 192.168.1.xxx
I bought one from someone for $20 but how do I transfer my service plan onto the new one? I'm not sure if you mentioned it in the video cus I didn't watch the whole thing
this guy is not sponsored by Verizon nor gets any form of payment from Verizon. In fact this guy pays verizon $140/mo for two 5G home plus plans. If you have a contact to help this guy get paid by Verizon please let him know! 😁😎
What bands does the box use to connect to the cell tower? According to the Verizon website, I am not eligible for the home 5G Internet, but when I look at a cell tower map there's a 5g tower just a few blocks away broadcasting bands 2, 5, 13, and 66. Can the box connect to those bands and if so why can't I use that tower? Additional question: Are any of those C bands? And what about the signal being broadcast in the home, do you know what bands those are or is it Wi-Fi 6?
It connects to those cell bands but verizon provides availability based on network capacity not signal. Verizoj c-band is n77. It sends wifi 6 out in the house, it does not transmit cellular in the house.
