✠ - Wir sind des Geyers schwarzer Haufen - ✠ (piano transcription) 

This Fahrtenlied was put together around 1920 by the Bündische Jugend using parts of the text from Heinrich von Reder's poem "Ich bin der arme Kunrad" from 1885. The thirteen stanzas, which compose this Lied, are stylistically based on the demands and rhetoric of the peasants during the Bauernkriege, the result of the rebellion led by the theologian Thomas Müntzer and supported by the franconian nobleman Florian Geyer. An anti-clerical tendency is clear (e.g. "Spieß voran, drauf und dran, setzt auf’s Klosterdach den roten Hahn!"). The melody was composed in 1919 by Fritz Sotke.
The Lied was sung in the interwar period by left and right-wing revolutionary groups and used by NSDAP in its fight against the Catholic Church, a fight which echoed Bismarck's Kulturkampf.
