🥶 We make our way down from the mountains into the valley of Grand Teton National Park. We visit Jackson Hole, see some amazing scenery, and encounter the worst road we've ever been on. Winter Truck Camping is really amazing, even though it's a little chilly!
We are hoping to make it through Grand Teton National Park and Yellowstone National Park before the roads close! On our journey, we cross the continental divide, which is a nice landmark on our movement west! We find a great boondocking spot to do some winter camping. Join us in the second part of our Winter in Wyoming series. This place is simply amazing, especially in the snow!
If you missed part 1, you can watch it here: • ❄️SNOW STORM - FORCED ...
Many of you have asked us to share more of our normal daily life, this video gives a good idea of what our typical travel days look like. However, this time, it's a little colder and snowier.

Different strokes for different folks. It is so refreshing to see a “my kind ofcamping” channel versus the here we are in the Florida Keys paying more than $100 night and look at these one of three swimming pools.

From the number of thumbs up your comment got, I don't think you're alone. While its nice to stay at an RV resort, with a pool and/or hot tub, it isn't really our style. It's nice to hear that you like the same!

Switch to Anderson levelers, you’ll throw those orange squares away like we eventually did. Anderson’s make leveling super easy, we’ve never been happier. OH, they would’ve been easier to remove in the snow. Nice video, thanks for sharing.
@Stonyboot
@Stonyboot 2 года назад
I’ve looked at them but have some issues with how they work. I need to adjust individual wheel height. I can select 1, 2, 3, or 4 blocks to get my desired leveling. With the ramp style, I’d need to adjust the distance from the tires and gauge height on distance traveled. I think they are a great idea, but I see them mostly for lifting none side of a 1 or 2 wheel trailer. Any advice on using them to level a truck camper?

Thanks. Music selection is one of the hardest parts of making videos, you wouldn't expect it, but it's agonizing. So thanks for the feed back. And yes, I think we are alike. I'd rather drive in rain, wind and snow than a beautiful summer day. Don't get me wrong, I love a nice day to drive. But I REALLY love driving in weather, it's much more stimulating.

Just make sure it's the 70% for sanitizing, not the 99%. But you can mix the 99% down to 70% with distilled water. :)
@Stonyboot
@Stonyboot 2 года назад
@@wingnutbert9685 That is an important detail that we didn't talk about. I'll try to mention that in a future video. We do use 70% alcohol. We also have 91%, but that's mostly for cleaning, prepping surfaces, and drying things.
@wingnutbert9685
@wingnutbert9685 2 года назад
@@Stonyboot Yep. It's something that isn't realized by many. Understandable to think high % would be better. But the science of how it kills germs/bac/virus cells makes the 70% ratio apparent. Basically, the higher % alcohol desiccates the cell wall too fast and actually protects the core, keeping it's moisture. Thus allowing it to survive and recover. 70% ratio is the golden ratio. Has enough water to not desiccate the cell wall so fast so the alcohol has time to soak in to the core and actually kill it. I get the 99% in boxes of 500ml bottles. Mix that w/ 210ml distilled water. Much better then the gel hand sanitizers which, these days, are dodgy at best and it's way cheaper and leaves no film on your hands. Good for cleaning too. :)

Y'all put that truck and camper to the test.... I'll be 65 this year...from Ohio but moved to S.C. 22 years ago. I had enough of winters. Rebuilding my old 2001 Dodge dually. Used to pull a 53' wedge trailer with up to 26,000 lbs gvw. Truck is built just needs freshened up. Looking at a camper like yours or an all fiberglass Northern lite but being from Ohio, leaning towards Nucamp. Those Amish and Mennonites are true craftsmen!

But, ya just can't beat camping for free in some amazing location. Good luck with your search/build, it sounds like you have a good idea if what you want. The road was pretty rough, too rough for my liking. Speed is the enemy in that situation , so nice and slow back out. I try to take care of things, I don't like to get behind on maintenance. When I watched you take the fuel cap off the truck before fueling, I noticed all the dirt that had gotten in around those filler necks. It is amazing that the car companies are selling these vehicles without fuel caps and that you need to purchase one like you did to protect your fuel inlet from letting all that dirt settle in there. These trucks DEMAND super clean fuel. I am just amazed they think none of that dirt will end up in your fuel tank only to cause havoc at some time later down the road. Nice job handling the truck through the slick stuff. I have the same in a single rear wheel and when you have a camper on the back skidding takes on a whole different meaning.
@Stonyboot
@Stonyboot 2 года назад
The truck came with a plastic cap, but they are notorious for leaking and letting stuff in. I bought this filler cap on amazon since it has a better seal. I’m disappointed with the quality and style of the filler neck, its plastic and prone to break. So far, it hasn’t, but on a $62k truck, you’d think they would give you an actual cap. The road was actually pretty grippy, the snow had a favorable consistency. If it got nasty, I would have put the chains on. We don’t want to lose control…

You need to run your heater hoses inside your camper with a heat exchanger and blower to keep it nice and warm while driving and it works great . Even with liquid floor heat you can tie in with check valve and a bypass valve. Check in to it if you do enough clod weather camping you will save a ton of propane !
@Stonyboot
@Stonyboot Год назад
I've seen systems like this, but they would be complex to disconnect. We don't spend enough time in the cold to justify the complexity. However, if I were to build a custom overlanding rig, I'd look at a diesel heater and possibly a heat exchanger for the truck/camper.

Hearing you say filling propane tanks to 4.6 gallons (if i heard correctly) just gave me so much anxiety lol even completely empty we'd never fill them past 4.2 gallons. We've had people get them overfilled in the past like that and it lit their decks on fire cuz they use them for their bbqs. They have an automatic shutoff in them that should never allow them to get to 4.6 gallons. Be careful! My work fills propane tanks (I've been filling tanks for just almost 5 years now) from that same size all the way to the big 100lb tanks (that hold 22 gallons) and over filling is a huge problem. That being your vehicle and your home, I dont want you to go thru something bad with your propane tanks. It could literally catch your whole rig on fire
@Stonyboot
@Stonyboot 2 года назад
A 20lb propane tank holds 4.6 gallons of LPG. That is where the OPD will shut off. According to many industry websites: 20 lb Propane Tank Dimensions: 1' 6" in height and 1' in diameter. 20 pound propane tanks are often referred to as grill cylinders and hold 4.6 gallons of propane when full. 4.6 is normal when the tank is empty.

We drove threw Yellowstone and visted Old Faithful and that was about it we were there at prime time and was like down town LA. We went up to Tetons par and camped on a huge lake that was full of cut throat trout and we had the whole place to our selfs. When ever we got a good snow we would jump in our 4x4 pickup and hit all the back roads and try to find people that were stuck in the snow and we did this just for fun we never charged a single dime and it was all for fun, and always a good time. Get your stuff at Jackson Hole and take in the sites and then cruse up to Tetons park on the lake and have moose in your camp and they are huge but stay far away form the cows with a calf she will protect her calves with her life and I’ve seen cows run over the top of bears and send the bears packing !!

Great video! I woke up with 33 degrees inside my camper. Finding out both of my propane tanks went out during zero degree night. Brrrrr.
@Stonyboot
@Stonyboot 2 года назад
That's no fun! Many people disagree, but we always leave our second tank OFF, I'm happy to go change it in the middle of the night, knowing that I have a completely full tank. For me, relying on auto changeover valves means that if I have a leak or other problem, I could end up with no propane. I've had 3 regulators fail and leak on me, so I really like having my second tank closed and ready for action. Did you have anything freeze?

Subscribed, and boy have you earned it! WOW, you put a lot of work into your videos (and it really shows)! You must take a ton of time getting your huge amount of b-roll. And your editing is SO good - the cuts you make, the way you stitch together a flow of story, and I LOVE your music choices. Just the drone sequence from 29:00 to 30:00 alone earns an eager subscription. WOW - gorgeous - and perfectly paired with such beautiful music. Your drone work is so, SO good - glassy smooth and framed just perfectly. Seriously, that sequence is like out of a major motion picture. Very, very well done!

Well wow, thanks for the kind words! I'm glad you like it :) There a lot of guess work involved and it's nice when the end result is watchable. Music selection is one of the most challenging parts of the process. I use Storyblocks and Epidemic sound for stock music and spend a lot of time browsing for something that will have the right pace and feel. Over the 3-4 days we made that 3 part series we recorded about 25 hours of footage. Each video takes about 30 hours to edit, give or take 5 hours.

A diesel heater would be nice, but we don't plan to spend much time in the cold. I have a hose bandit and have used it a few times. I don't have a key, but people are usually kind enough to help. Most of the time, gas stations attendants have no idea if its ok, but, frequently they say sure. We use apps to plan our our water fill ups and it's been pretty successful so far. If we ever got really stuck, I'd just go talk to people and I'm sure they would be happy to help!

Please be careful using your engine brake (or cruise) in any snow or ice, especially on a down grade. Your saving grace is the weight on your rear axle. Please check the manual for warnings. Love a cold camp, I run my 120" sleeper propane heater November and half of December on one 20 lb. tank. Think about an auxiliary engine coolant heater for your Backpack. Nice and warm when you stop. Enjoy!
@Stonyboot
@Stonyboot 2 года назад
If the wheels slip, the exhaust break disengages on our truck. The road was pretty grippy and I frequently check the conditions. Also, in a situation like that, I'll run in 4x4 to distribute the engine breaking force front and rear ready to hit neutral if needed. We don't really plan to stay in the cold weather for long, so I don't really want to invest in extra equipment for staying warm. I'll just drive south 😂 ! What kind of truck to you drive?
