I this video I answer five different questions coming from viewer comments. The first is from Parapluie 5 and is about scanning plastic cards. The second is from Michael Wolf and is about scan quality. The third is from Marshal Rosenberg and is about connecting by Wi-Fi on a Mac. The fourth is from an anonymous emailer who asks about scanning to cloud services. The fifth is from Marva Holt and is about OCR (optical character recognition). Check out the video for more.

I appreciate your help with my new Fujitsu iX1600 - getting it set up and running was a challenge and you got me through it. I have figured out how to edit profiles but still working on creating new ones. I am also struggling with determining how to find my files after ScanSnap Home stores the files. I have the breadcrumb file path documented but am unable to locate them in my folders within Internet Explorer. Addressing this in a video this would be helpful. My workaround is changing the destination in each profile but worry that I will forget and be unable to locate the files later.

You are most welcome Ann. I’m glad that you figured out a workaround. To find where are located on my computer, through ScanSnap Home, I just right click on them and then click “Reveal in File Explorer”. Do you have this option as well?

Hi Sean, great video on the iX1600. Very helpful and informative. Three questions from a non tech senior pushing 80 with a 2021 iMac M1 with the Big Sur OS : I live in a rural area and am on a very slow 2M Century Link internet line. 1.) How will the slow line impact scanning? 2.) Would linking my iMac to my iPhone using a personal hotspot help? 3.) I’m sold on the iX1600, especially after seeing your video, but also need to upgrade my old Canon printer. I’ve scoured the web for a printer/scanner but the integrated scanners don’t compare to the iX1600 and I’ve resigned myself to buying separate printers and scanners. Is this the right approach? Thanks, in advance, for your assistance.

Hi Marty. Thank you for the kind words. I really appreciate it. I’m glad to help. Let’s take each question one by one. First - Your internet connection speed should have no impact on the scanning speed of your scanner, assuming that you are not scanning directly to the cloud, and are instead first scanning to your Mac. For you, I would recommend that you connect the iX1600 to your Mac by USB or by Wi-Fi so that the scanner is either connecting directly with your Mac by a cable or is connecting with your Mac through your wireless router. Either way, your internet connection speed won’t be a factor because it won’t be involved. In fact, you wouldn’t even need to be on the internet, though you will need it to do the initial software setup. However, if you are scanning to the cloud, your internet speed may be a factor; it will affect the speed at which your files are uploaded to the cloud, because this happens via the internet. This ties into the next question. Second - Linking your iMac to your iPhone using a personal hotspot could help if your cell phone data plan offers higher speeds than your home internet connection. Do you know the specs? Is your cell phone connection 2G? 3G? 4G? 5G? What about your home internet connection? Do you know the exact specs? If you don’t, your internet provider can tell you your download and upload speeds, or you can test them by using a website like SpeedTest.net (www.speedtest.net/). Depending on your connection type, your download speed will be higher than your upload speed. For example, I just tested my connection and I clocked in at 116Mbps download and 92Mbps upload. Third - I’m glad that you feel that my video sold you on the iX1600. I wouldn’t have made so much content about it if I didn’t truly believe that it’s a valuable machine. I actually went through the exact same process as you are going through, i.e., when I upgraded to a separate scanner, I walked away from an all-in-one multi-function unit. For me, I believe that it is indeed the right approach to buy a separate printer and scanner. In my experience, when you have a machine like a multi-function unit which offers all kinds of different features, there are more things that can go wrong, and it’ll usually be less user friendly and less durable. Conversely, with a unit (a printer or a scanner) that simply does a few things very well, there are fewer things that can go wrong, and this enhances dependability and ease of use. I actually talk about this in my most recent printer review (of the Brother HL-L2370dw). Here is a link to the section in the video if you are interested: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-smWSigrjMZo.html Thanks again for your questions Marty. I appreciate you asking me. Please let me know if anything else comes up. I’m happy to help. 🙂👍

Hi Sean, thank you so much for all your reviews, they've been very helpful :) I have one question, please: does the iX600 work with MacOS Ventura (currently at 13.0.1)? I ask because I have a multi-unit (Epson L6171) and up to a while ago I had no complaints about the quality of the scanned documents (mainly PDF) I was getting, but since the last OS update, the quality dropped to a point they're not acceptable anymore for my needs. I've updated to the most recent drive but there was no difference to the quality of the scans, so I'm looking for alternatives, and I'm surprised to see many scanners are not compatible with Mac, at least not to the latest OS. Thank you!

Hi Marilena. You are most welcome. Thank you for checking out my reviews. I'm glad to know that you're finding them to be helpful. 🙂 I believe that the answer is yes, the iX1600 works with MacOS Venture. I did some searching online and found the following Fujitsu webpage through their support site: www.fujitsu.com/global/support/products/computing/peripheral/scanners/scansnap/faq/top-ix1600.html#tab-a-02 Please click the link and it will take you to the place showing that it is compatible with "macOS Ventura 13", "macOS Monterey 12" and "macOS v11 Big Sur". My understanding is that the iX1600 is actually compatible with High Sierra and every later OS, including High Sierra - v10.13 (Sept. 25, 2017), Mojave - v10.14 (Sept. 24, 2018), Catalina - v10.15 (Oct. 7, 2019), Big Sur - v11 (Nov. 12, 2020), Monterey - v12 (Oct. 25, 2021), and the most recent, Ventura - v13 (Oct. 24, 2022). I'm sorry to hear that your Epson isn't working as well after the OS update, even after you updated the driver. If you haven't already, please also see my new video review on the Fujitsu ScanSnap iX1300. Depending on what your working environment is like, what kinds of things you are scanning, how much you are scanning, and other factors, you may also find that the iX1300 is a good solution. Here is the link to the video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hMGaO45Q8DI.html Thanks again Marilena. Please let me know if you have any other questions.🙂

@@SeanDillman Thank you so much for the answer and all your trouble! I did watch your review of the iX1300 and for me that would be the perfect option. Unfortunately it's not available where I live (Brazil), at least not yet. I'll check the link you provided, thank you again!

@@marilenacantizani. You are most welcome. It was no trouble at all. It's my pleasure. =) It's too bad that the iX1300 isn't offered in Brazil. The iX1300 is little more than a year old (released on October 5, 2021) so maybe Fujitsu is still seeing how it goes and slowly rolling it out. I know that the ADP Feeder doesn't work perfectly so perhaps they'll try to tweak that and fix it up before offering it in every market. I've noticed that the prices for the iX1300 have fluctuated a bit in North America over the past year and I'm curious to see how successful/popular or unsuccessful/unpopular it ends up being. So far I love the iX1300 but you never know if a product may have some sort of an undiscovered flaw or defect that only shows up after a few years. Maybe when Fujitsu does their research and development, they test machines for years before releasing them to the public. I'm not quite sure. Going back to the iX1600, one great thing about it is that because it is based on a preexisting model (the iX500 which was originally released in 2013), it comes with a lot more stability/certainty. Fujitsu basically took a high-functioning, solid machine (the iX1500) and produced successor machines (including the iX1600) by making improvements here and there (including the touchscreen and wi-fi on the iX1600), and, in my opinion, that approach is part of what makes the iX1600 so stable and valuable. 👍

IS THE fi-8170 really worth it? I am a CPA and have the fi-6130z and have changed computers and lost the original software. I downloaded replacement software from Fujitsu site and installed the software on my new computer and it does not work... so I am limited to scanning directly to Adobe Acrobat - which is ok but I always get the back side of the blank page and have to manually delete it... Anyhow, just wondering if I get this one Fujitsu ix1600 to replace that or is the extra money worth if for the fi-8170? I only mainly need docs scanned to pdf for record keeping. I have also tried the Raven scanner and it works good too, but if I have a yellow sticky on the page it stops the scan and the Fujitsu has been more forgiving. Also, odd shapped documents I put in a plastic sleeve that came with an older Fujitsu scanner. I did really love the Fujitsu scanner software wit the older scanners that came up in bottom left of windows screen and you could make adjustments to your scans on the fly, or before scanning. I really always just used that software to direct the scanned pdf output to a folder on the computer. Usually a client folder on my networked cloud drive. a hard drive letter that looks like a drive on my physical computer but is in the Citrix cloud. Thanks for your great videos and oh so thorough.

Hi Don. I’m sorry to hear that you lost the original software, and that they changed it. That’s a tough situation. I remember the old software and did indeed like how you could make changes and direct documents right after scanning them. You can do this in many ways with the iX1600 and the ScanSnap Home software, at least when it comes to choosing where to put the scans and rotating pages/images. Regarding the question of whether the fi-8170 is worth it, I suppose the answer is that it depends. As a CPA, it may have features that may really benefit you: professional grade scanning speeds, higher-level durability, more scanning options with respect to routing, naming, and pulling data from the documents (things that the iX1600 may not be able to do). Something that professionals usually note is that the iX1600 is not Twain compatible, so if you are scanning to Adobe Acrobat now, you wouldn’t be able to do that with an iX1600 (though I appreciate that you’re not necessarily scanning to Adobe as your first choice). You also wouldn’t be able to scan to any other software other than ScanSnap Home or to your smartphone using the ScanSnap Connect app. However, if you only need documents scanned for record keeping and don’t need any advanced functions, I’d say that the iX1600 would likely do a great job for you. I agree that Fujitsu scanners are generally quite forgiving. I’ve scanned some things with the iX1600 that I had to sort of force though, but it worked. I think that other scanners may have more of a conniption. I have yet to use a Raven scanner, but I can appreciate that it may not be as heavy duty as a Fujitsu scanner, or at least that is what I have heard. Those are my initial thoughts. Is that helpful?

Does the IX-1600 auto straighten the documents when scanned? Also, Sometimes the wording in the original doc is skewed. Does the IX-1600 straighten the final document after scanned?
@SeanDillman
@SeanDillman Год назад
Hi Ken. Yes indeed. In the ScanSnap Home software, within any given scan profile, under the 'Scan' settings, there is a button in the bottom right corner which says "Option". In that submenu, there is an option to "Deskew by document text". There are also options to "Increase text contract", "Reduce bleed-through", and increase brightness for black and white documents. In general, the people at Fujitsu have put a good deal of thought into the processing and cleaning up of documents, as opposed to merely scanning them. In my experience, the iX1600 does a great job of making scanned documents readable and usable. However, that being said, the ability of the scanner to deskew and cleanup text all depends on the source document being scanned. If you have a particular document or set of documents that you are thinking of and if you want to send me some pages, I could print them out and then scan them in the iX1600 to help you test it out.

Can this batch process business cards (say batch of 20 or 50), OCR them and save them into Google contacts? I need a solution for over 1000+ cards. I was let go and want to make my search systematic so being able to categorize contacts etc would really help. Inputing the cards in my Google contacts with my phone business cards scanner would take forever... Thank you
