I love Polpos logic here. The goal was always to turn applicants into stand users, but he's still useful if he "succeeds". He might not be as useful as a stand user, but it would still prove that he's both a skilled pickpocket and willing to follow orders
It is literally impossible to pass the test without already being a stand user. You need to snuff out the lighter in order to conceal it from the guards, or use your stand to hold it out of view.
This moment was one of my favorites in the entire show, Giorno has two sides for a father, a pure, righteous side and an evil and maniacal side. This scene perfectly captures that as Giorno brutally kills Polpo for a righteous reason.
@@stairwaytoheaven8 Evil might be considered for one as a lack of empathy over someone else, while being cold is justifying the actions through the means.
@@someguy-hc8gi what Giorno did to Diavolo and the guy with White Album what Weather Report did to Pucci and the aftermath don't forget what Gappy did to that rock human in the fucking ocean
How do you know Polpo is evil? He’s in prison? No. He’s intimidating? No. He eats his pizza upside down and starts in the middle? The very definition of chaos.
Dio: Giorno my son how was your day? Giorno: Well I passed the entrance exam Dio: That's great to hear- Giorno: To the Mafia Dio: Oh... Giorno: And I killed a fat guy Dio: THAT'S MY BOY
Which is really sweet cause in a lot of shows, nameless characters are rarely referenced or avenged by the heroes. They're just there to prove how ruthless the villain is and then forgotten. But Giorno made the effort to avenge his death. Good for him.
@@brady7332 he does, he thinks evil people souls contain great power and tries to get as many evil people on his side as possible. Source: Jjba over heaven light novel
The most impressive thing was that he actually was an Italian ninja. he camouflaged using a pizza, and ate it like a spaghetti... That's some impressive skill.
Rip favorite stand. Also I like how (even for a split second) they show Black Sabbath before he died, trying to get the gun (or whatever he was doing) like he had done in the manga. Little details.
In an alternate world: Giorno: "I changed one of your grenades into an apple...” *KABOOM* Giorno: ”Looks like they'll have to bury what's left of you in a soup can."
I honestly don't know why people don't like Giorno. He's the most tactful jojo I've seen till now. He thinks everything methodically and is calculative in his approach unlike the rest of the joestars. He's a mob character done right and has an amazing theme. Pure perfection ❤️
All of the JoJos before Giorno were just reactionary protagonists . Jotaro reacted to Dio awakening and hurting his mother , Josuke reacted to Shigechi's death etc . But Giorno is the one who wanted to change the world in his image and Diavolo just reacted to Giorno challenging his authority Giorno is like Dio in a lot of ways , both of them wanted to change the status quo and both are willing to sacrifice everything to achieve their dream but where Giorno differs is that his goal is completely selfless . He still has Jonathan's heart . Giorno can be as kind as Jonathan to his friends and as ruthless as Dio to his enemies
I just found him completely lacking in personality. He always acted like a blank slate no matter what he was doing, and it felt like they just forgot to give him a character behind his abilities and objectives.
@@cradiculous He already had a set goal in mind, so he didn't really need character growth. Really, a static protagonist doesn't change themselves, but they do change the people around them.
"Calculative in his approach unlike the rest of the joestars" did you forget Joseph Joestar and Jotaro Kujo, two of the smartest Joestars in JJBA. Joseph is known for planning almost anything and is an excellent trickster and Jotato masters both the excellent intelligence of Joseph and the brute strength of Johnathan Joestar.
Jonathan - Not drop a single wine Joseph - Shooting with Coke caps Jotaro - Use ice cream on yellow liquid Josuke - Punch that spaghetti. Giorno - Turn Gun into banana.
Artakha - "Sheer" lol Wan Wan - I'd also throw out "Yes! We have no bananas!" or "Banana Phone" (with that second one, I was thinking something along the lines of either a phone she can summon at will to call in an infinite amount of deadly bananas, but it takes a long time for the call to connect (a la Hol Horse's Emperor and its slow bullet trajectory) or from any phone she uses can instantly summon only one bunch of bananas to the room she's in (a la Guido needing to be smart with how many bullets he shoots))
I like how Giorno doesn't look at Polpo while he eats the pizza, likely because he's both disgusted at him for moral reasons and also because he's probably _literally_ disgusted at him.
I like how normal weapons are still very effective in Jojo. In other animes you’ll the overpowered characters dodge/deflect bullets with ease, but in Jojo guns are still very deadly regardless of your Stand.
I mean, Jotaro was literally introduced catching a bullet, Avdol was shot in the head and... walked it off?... Mista's signature move is shooting himself multiple times, and anyone who fights Mista is able to deal with bullets (e.g. Kraftwerk, Ghiaccio, Secco) aside from the one guy who shooting to death just made stronger. Not to mention how effective guns are against vampires. I wouldn't like my odds against a Stand user whether I'm armed or not, that's all I'm saying.
I love the framing of this scene. It's not like most victory scenes in a Jojo season. It has the suspense and unnerving nature of a high-stakes discussion in a mafia flick.
This is literally why I ask ppl to watch JoJo. The genre literally changes from part to part. PB was a supernatural drama, BT was an action series, SDC was a beat-em-up-esque adventure, DiU is a Slice of Life and mystery, GW is a mafia action season, SO is a prison based heated action adventure (let's just say SO is a bit of everything), SBR is a racing manga and JJL is another Slice of life and mystery.
Polpo's death is so quick and easy, you even see him summon Black Sabbath right be before he dies, yet when he does, there's nothing left. No smoke draining off him, his spirit doesn't appear, nothing. It's like Kakyoin said, it was too quick.
I think this is the perfect intro to Giorno's personality. And there's a lot of early fights/encounters in each part that demonstrates each Jojo's personality. Its like this Jonathan's fight on Orge St. shows how compassionate and just he is. Joseph fighting Straizo showing how devious and how he has a devil may care attitude. Josuke when he's afraid of a turtle, but kind enough to save the turtle, but don't you dare insult his hair. Giorno has this. He wants to be a Gangster because a Gangster was the only one who treated Giorno like he was a person and he wanted to earn that respect and be the time of person who could do that for others. He doesn't want to hurt innocent people, but he has no mercy for those who prey on the innocent and this scene demonstrates just how far he was willing to go. I can't really think of one for Jotaro cause he's my least favourite Jojo. All I can think of is the Alessi fight, but that's closer to the latter half of the part.
I'd say for Jotaro, probably his fight against Kakyoin. Pretty well demonstrates that while he does rely a lot on brute force, he's not all brawn, and moreover despite presenting himself as cold, he does *not* like Kakyoin not only using the nurse, but also *hurting* her in the process. But Jotaro also has the restraint to not immediately murder Kakyoin for it, despite not knowing at the time that he wasn't really under his own control.
@@Hexagonaldonut also not just the fight against kakyoin. pretty much every single fight he’s in everyone else is panicking yet jotaro would be the only one that would keep a level head and not get blindingly angry unless in the fight against dio.
For Jotaro, him being in prison : you expect a bad guy, a delinquent, a selfish guy, but the reason he put himself behind bars and want to stay is because he's unsure and afraid of whatever his stand is, and want to protect others from it. TL;DR : a rude man with a fierce sense of Justice.
Polpo's Plan Have Giorno try, and fail, to keep the lighter lit Black Sabbath either kills him or gives him a stand He already has a stand and I kill myself with a banana- Wait wha-
@@tyroneblackmann Hey I mean, have yah heard the story of Jonah? If he could survive in a whale, I'm pretty sure we all have a sporting chance with this... creature.
I love the added touch that out of instinct, Black Sabbath instantly tried to protect his user, just as we saw at the start of part 3 with Jotaro and Star Platinum.
Polpo: "Are you a religious person?" Giorno: "I'm not very passionate about it." Also Giorno: *Has a dad whose name is the Italian word for God and torments his boss whose name is the Italian word for Devil*
I always thought Polpo's scene was just window dressing but I just realized the line "I will risk my life over being insulted" foreshadows Diavolo's death. Well played.
@@InfernosReaper I simply meant ruthless in the sense that he's not above killing people if they disgust him. The previous JoJo's, including Jotaro, avoided killing when it came to human enemies, but Giorno clearly has no such reservation. It's fitting that Polnareff makes an appearance in this part, since he's the only other one I can think of that has gone for the kill. Especially with what he did to Ebony Devil's user.
I always remember and relate this to Bruno’s backstory. Him fighting back over being insulted (his father being attacked), and killing his attackers; Polpo saying “I believe that God forgives even murder.” is true since Bruno, when ascending, had been forgiven by whatever higher force exists in the universe of JoJo, therefore allowing him to rest in peace.
@@schizophrenicsnowman3226 I mean I have no clue if there is a higher force out there and if there is, if those teachings apply to what it wants humans to do or not do, but at the least in the world of JoJo that’s what I believe.
THIS is when I fell in love with Giorno Giovanna. This scene really showed how cunning and righteous he is. He killed Polpo in such a way a villain would, but he did it for such a just reason. God the music and the shots of Giorno and his stand acting out to kill him is so wonderfully made, I can't get enough
I also love how much suffering he willingly endures daily just to achieve his dream, the man selflessly sacrifices himself multiple times for the sake of the mission but actually has the means and wit to survive by the skin of his teeth every single time on his own. His resolve always gets me hyped.
When people talk about anime eating contests between characters like Goku and Luffy, I feel like Polpo needs to be included. Dude slurped up a pizza as big as he was like it was just a big clump of spaghetti!
This is the scene that makes me love part 5 jojo protagonist as my favorite. He has all the jojo personality, the life/creation ability dio and kars had. The cool color scheme and great risks.
There's literally no way for an Italian to get this fat, like, are you telling me he never had to run from his mother with a wooden spoon? Nonsense. Edit: never mind, his philosophy is really accurate, south italians are really friendly and they forgive almost everything, but if you insult them they go completely insane, i've seen it myself.
@@srbrant5391 i've seen that, he even did research about the mafia (which is fucking dangerous btw) because it's so accurate that i'm starting to think that he actually called up members of the mafia just to interview them...
Thinking that Polpo and Itachi have the same voice actor, makes it extremely hilarious for me I have associated that voice only with Itachi and hearing this voice with Polpo's appearance, just lmao :'")
Polpo is seriously a minor but extremely profound character. The quote with trust, betrayal & death along with the “what people say & do are vastly different things, the greatest and worst thing about people” is great.
4:38 If you could stop the time right, you can actually see Polpo’s stand trying to stop the bullet and saving Polpo but the stand’s reflexes is bad and didn’t prevent Polpo from dying.
That frame where Polpo shoots himself where Black Sabbath appears just behind him was even cooler to see in the manga cuz it's right there in your face to stare at the entire time except for half a second in the anime.
Like Jonathan, he does not let someone who harms innocents go unpunished... by killing him in a cold blooded, decepitve fashion, like Dio would. Giorno truly has two dads and got the best of each.
I love going from josuke befriending 90% of his enemies and not even killing the rest. to giorno killing a guy the second he gets justification to do so 💀
"My head goes blank when I eat." If only he knew just how true those words are. And from what I could tell, there was still plenty of blood in his head.
For people who are asking why the hell he looks so weird,So he eats too much because his stand only works in shadows. So if anyone attacks him he is already so fat so he can summon his stand
