You can check out any time you like, but you can’t never leave!
Janis Joplin. She's the one this song written for, I believe.
Please bring me my wine. We haven’t had that spirit here…
You call someplace paradise, kiss it goodbye君はある場所をパラダイスと呼ぶだろう その場所にさようならのキスを…」 Eagles - The Last Resort She came from Providence, the one in Rhode Island Where the old world shadows hang heavy in the air She packed her hopes and dreams like a refugee Just as her father came across the sea She heard about a place people were smilin' 人々の笑いが溢れていた場所について彼女は聞いた They spoke about the red man's way, how they loved the land And they came from everywhere to the Great Divide Seeking a place to stand or a place to hide Down in the crowded bars out for a good time Can't wait to tell you all, what it's like up there And they called it paradise, I don't know why Somebody laid the mountains low while the town got high Then the chilly winds blew down across the desert Through the canyons of the coast to the Malibu Where the pretty people play hungry for power To light their neon way and give them things to do Some rich men came and raped the land, nobody caught them Put up a bunch of ugly boxes, and Jesus, people bought 'em And they called it paradise, the place to be They watched the hazy sun sinking in the sea You can leave it all behind and sail to Lahaina Just like the missionaries did so many years ago They even brought a neon sign "Jesus is coming" 彼らはこんなネオンサインも持ってきていた「イエスが来ている」 Brought the white man's burden down, brought the white man's reign Who will provide the grand design? What is yours and what is mine? 'Cause there is no more new frontier, we have got to make it here We satisfy our endless needs and justify our bloody deeds In the name of destiny and in the name of God And you can see them there on Sunday morning Stand up and sing about what it's like up there They call it paradise, I don't know why You call someplace paradise, kiss it goodbye
I was convinced that welcome to “hotel” California for all wishing homeless people.. This is such a lovely place to check in anytime there are bunch of rooms but never leave cause you are all just prisoners of your own device.
May years ago, I heard them say in an interview that the lyrics were a metaphor for the "show business world" in the United States after 1969. In the show business world, if you become famous, you can earn a huge amount of money and fame, and you can do whatever you want. However, once you enter such a fulfilling world, you will never be able to go back to the place you used to be. Up until 1969, rock bands didn't ask for money, and even if they didn't have money, they just played music that they loved from the bottom of their hearts. When a rock band becomes professional and famous, they are forced the company to only do music that will make money, not music that they like. It's totally different from the music world of rock bands up until 1969.
"Hotel California”by Eagles On a dark desert highway, Cool wind in my hair, Warm smell of “colitas” Rising up through the air, Up ahead in the distance I saw a shimmering light, My head grew heavy and my sight grew dim, I had to stop for the night. There she stood in the doorway, I heard the mission bell And I was thinkin’ to myself : “This could be heaven and this could be hell” Then she lit up a candle, And she showed me the way, There were voices down the corridor, I thought I heard them say Welcome to the Hotel California, Such a lovely place, (Such a lovely place) Such a lovely face Plenty of room at the Hotel California, Any time of year, (Any time of year) You can find it here 「ホテル・カリフォルニア」へ ようこそ 此処は 素晴らしい所です。 Her mind is Tiffany-twisted, She got the Mercedes Bends, She got a lot of pretty, pretty boys she calls friends How they dance in the courtyard, Sweet summer sweat Some dance to remember, Some dance to forget So I called up the Captain “Please bring me my wine” He said, “We haven’t had that spirit here Since nineteen sixty-nine” And still those voices are calling from far away, Wake you up in the middle of the night Just to hear them say: Welcome to the Hotel California, Such a lovely place, (Such a lovely place) Such a lovely face They’re livin’ it up at the Hotel California, What a nice surprise, (What a nice surprise) Bring your alibis 「ホテル・カリフォルニア」へ ようこそ。 Mirrors on the ceiling, The pink champagne on ice, and she said: “We are all just prisoners here, Of our own device” And in the master’s chambers They gathered for the feast, They stabbed it with their steely knives, But they just can’t kill the beast Last thing I remember, I was running for the door, I had to find the passage back to the place I was before, “Relax,” said the night man, “We are programmed to receive, You can check out anytime you like… but you can never leave” 最後の記憶は ドアに向かって走っていた事。
