‘백만 송이 장미’는 1997년에 발표된 심수봉의 노래로, 그녀가 러시아 노래를 듣고 한국 정서에 맞게 가사를 작사해 부르며 큰 사랑을 받았습니다. 더러는 심수봉 작곡이라고 잘못 알고 있는 사람들도 있고, 원곡이 러시아 민요라고 잘못 알려지기도 했습니다만, 이 곡은 시작은 라트비아의 ‘마리냐가 준 소녀의 인생’이라는 가요로 1981년 처음 세상에 나왔습니다. 심수봉의 ‘백만 송이 장미’는 러시아 버전과 제목만 같을 뿐, 화가와 여배우의 사랑을 노래하는 러시아어/일본어 버전과는 전혀 다른 가사 내용입니다.
심수봉 스스로도 여러 매스컴을 통해 자신이 작업(작사 혹은 작곡) 한 것 중 최고라고 자부하는 곡입니다. 참고로 심수봉은 1993년 MBC 라디오 ‘심수봉의 트로트 가요 앨범’을 진행할 당시 담당 PD였던 현 남편과 재혼했는데요. 러시아 가수 ‘알라 푸가초바’가 부른 ‘백만 송이 장미’를 접하게 된 것도 남편 덕분이라고 합니다. 편곡도 완벽하고 멜로디도 좋아서 듣자마자 마음에 들었지만, 그대로 번역한 가사는 한국 정서와 맞지 않아서 직접 작사를 하게 되었다고 합니다. 가장 귀한 사랑에 대해 생각하다가 아가페적인 사랑을 주제로 가사를 쓰게 됐다고 해요.

'Million Roses' is a song by Sim Soo-bong released in 1997. She listened to the Russian song and changed the lyrics to suit the Korean sentiment, and was greatly loved by Koreans.
