Ferras' "Poeme" is vastly inferior to Chloe's. Its self-indulgent and neurotic melodrama has nothing of the passion, emotional depth and spiritual strength that is so evident in hers.
For my ears, Ferras’ version has much more depth of feelings, colors and articulation of emotions. Chloe made this song sounded like a Hollywood background music. Dramatic, precise, round, beautiful but monotonous
Well, the same vibrato speed/width, same dynamic range, bowing, etc for the clean, full sound at all times (the modern studio sound). Let me tell you what I hear from Ferras' version. Firstly, let's start with the bowing. He was doing the "figure 8 dancing" with the contact point, or Taichi shall I say? Basically sliding the bow up and down between the fingerboard and bridge + alternating full or scarce bow hairs + short/long bow strokes. This gave so much 3 dimensional colors. Then the left hand, I could almost visualize the change of pressure how he pressed on the strings, sometimes barely touching and just enough to produce a note, sometimes fully pressed. Then the vibrato, change the speed and width as they suit the passages. @@jackburgess8579
