Although many studies still suggest that saturated fats are linked to cardiovascular diseases, lard is a type of saturated fat.
However, numerous other studies argue that saturated fats are an essential part of the human diet and are not associated with heart disease.
A meta-analysis published in 2014 reviewed 32 observational studies on dietary intake of fatty acids (involving 530,525 participants), 17 observational studies on fatty acid biomarkers (involving 25,721 participants), and 27 randomized controlled trials on fatty acid supplements (involving 103,052 participants). The conclusion was that current evidence does not support the cardiovascular guidelines recommending increased consumption of polyunsaturated fats and decreased intake of saturated fats.
